Aurora Continent, located in the western part of the city where Bai Hei had transmigrated to, was filled with ancient mysteries and futuristic war zones. At the moment, in a particular academy, students were engaged in casual discussion.
From the memories of his predecessor, Bai Hei knew this place wasn't an academy in the traditional sense. Despite its name, it focused more on teaching the history of cultivation, martial techniques, and strategies to survive—and defeat—the foreign invaders that threatened their world.
"That is the history of how the Third Martial Law came to be."
As soon as the voice finished speaking, Bai Hei came back to his senses from reminiscing due to the loud cheers that erupted from the student, he looked around; there were about 40 students in his class.
Thankfully, his predecessor had always kept a low profile, rarely speaking with anyone. That meant Bai Hei didn't have to worry too much about people noticing the sudden change in personality.
He looked toward the female teacher who had just concluded the lecture. It seemed classes were over for the day. Bai Hei exhaled. Classes only occurred three times a week. The rest of their time was self-guided. Most students spent it cultivating or practicing martial arts.
Just as he stepped out of the classroom, a voice called out.
"Bai Hei?"
He turned and saw a young man of similar age walking toward him. Digging into the memories of his predecessor, Bai Hei quickly matched the face. It was James—the class monitor—and the student with the highest cultivation level in their year.
Just standing before him, Bai Hei could faintly feel the pressure of someone at the golden core realm firmly pressing down on him. is this what the golden core feels like? Bai Hei was shocked; he didn't expect the difference between them to be this great. Although he had expected there to be a disparity between the two realms, he didn't expect to feel like he couldn't last a single punch in front of the class monitor.
"Is anything the matter?" the class monitor called out to Bai Hei seeing that he was lost in thought.
Bai Hei quickly regained his composure and replied, "you called me. is anything the matter?"
"Yes, i just want to inform you that the final year examination is in a month's time. I wonder how your preparation is coming along," james said in a light tone.
From the memories of the predecessor, Bai Hei knew that this class monitor was a very caring person, and although he couldn't be sure, he decided to follow his predecessor's thoughts for now.
"I'm preparing well. Thanks for checking in," Bai Hei said curtly.
James gave a nod and placed a reassuring hand on Bai Hei's shoulder.
"Bai Hei, I expect you to be in the top ten. Do your best."
Without waiting for a response, James moved on to another student, offering the same encouragement.
Bai Hei touched his nose and chuckled wryly.
Outside the academy gates, Bai Hei hailed a cab and headed home. As the car sped through the city, he took a moment to enjoy the scenery.
Despite being a cultivation world, there were traces of advanced technology everywhere. Much of it was acquired from the aliens, who had invaded years ago.
Some technologies were reverse-engineered, while others came directly from the invaders' knowledge base.
Bai Hei reached home in about thirty minutes. After dinner, he entered his room and sat cross-legged to cultivate. He knew he had to increase his strength the little he could before the entrance examination.
From what he recalled from his predecessor's memory, the top ten students would receive rewards and be given one-star badges in the military, placing them far above the average recruits.
Settling into a meditative posture, Bai Hei took a deep breath.
"I wonder how this will feel..."
Although he had inherited his predecessor's memories, he had never physically cultivated himself. He wasn't sure what to expect.
As he focused, the dantian in his abdomen stirred. Spiritual energy from the surrounding environment slowly converged toward him.
Bai Hei's eyes widened. He could feel that his body was absorbing spiritual energy far faster than what he remembered from the predecessor's memories.
Perhaps my soul must have altered this body's constitution; anyway, it's a good thing for me. Bai Hei smiled, then closed his eyes and continued cultivating. He closed his eyes and continued cultivating.
Days passed in a similar fashion. Bai Hei avoided unnecessary interaction with his new parents. Since he had little to no real relationship with them, he didn't want to risk raising suspicion.
Although his parents were puzzled, they didn't question him, they felt he must have been nervous and was preparing for the final examination, so they weren't bothered. Slowly Bai Hei's realm increased while he was cultivating; from the fourth stage of foundation establishment, in a month's time he had reached the seventh stage of foundation establishment.
Bai Hei was also shocked by his cultivation speed but after reaching the seventh level of foundation establishment, his speed slowed drastically, maintaining the speed he had before transmigrating, causing him to regain his composure. He guessed it had something to do with his transmigration but he couldn't be sure; either way, it was a good thing.
Bai Hei opened his eyes. he could feel himself brimming with spiritual energy. He felt extremely strong, stronger than he could have ever been. He couldn't wait for the entrance examination today; he felt the need to punch someone.
After all, in his previous world, fighting was somewhat illegal; the urge to fight was becoming hard to control. Bai Hei faintly felt that the brutality of this world was affecting him somewhat so he calmed his thoughts.
He knew that others must have improved and that ranking in the top 10 during the examination today would undoubtedly be difficult. Taking a deep breath, Bai Hei decided to ponder on the cultivation techniques from his predecessor's mind.
Martial arts techniques were divided into entry level, minor accomplishment, major accomplishment, and so on. Fortunately, over the past few days, most of his cultivation techniques were already at the Major accomplishment level.
