"He's insufferable? In what sense?" Daniala asked. She already had a hint that Avery was about to explode with a rant, and she wasn't about to miss the show.
Avery exhaled through her nose, her shoulders slumping as her eyes flickered with a mixture of annoyance and disbelief. "In every sense," she said flatly, waving her hands dramatically. "He never leaves a single chance to make things harder for me-that's why!"
Her voice rose, frustration bleeding through, and for a second it looked like she might actually start pulling her hair out.
Daniala bit the inside of her cheek, holding back a smile. "That bad, huh?"
Avery groaned and let her face fall intoher palms before lifting it again, her tone softening, shifting from irritation to something more sentimental. "You know… after the day he lost his parents, I went to his home. I knew he needed someone to just be there for him. He wasn't doing well those days. He barely spoke, barely ate… and it broke my heart to see him like that."
