Synopsis
It was a darkness considered primordial. Before anything existed, before life itself sprouted, a deep dark blanketed the entire universe. In the absence of light, it lurked and dampened the bright stars themselves. It was no intangible phenomena, as it certainly was a creature. An otherworldly being, unbelonging anywhere, and surely would never find a place it could call home. Yet, that all-encroaching, fear-inducing, pitch black-- is now a student in a dimensional academy, with amnesia to boot. The reborn beast, now in the form of a young man, was given the name Crescent. Either mistakenly or purposefully chosen, he now struggles in an unfamiliar place filled with talents across the universe. And for some reason, the academy's focus is to expunge a primordial darkness which endlessly sprawls forth an army... one which Crescent may be connected to.

Chapter 1 - Prologue

There was a monster that singlehandedly destroyed a world. Its maw, wide enough to devour entire cities with a chomp, salivated at the sight of this ruinous planet. It was seen in the distance, beyond the crumbling earth and rubbles of what once was a city. Yet, anyone who laid eyes on it, unfortunately, would go blind.

Right, it was complete darkness. One that swallowed all light, the concept of void made manifest. It wouldn't have a physical form, yet someone had interpreted it as a creature. To one observer, that distinct blot of black took a physical form, with a maw no less. Bearing hundreds of eyes, each pupil wriggled restlessly, observing all there was in its entirety.

From the fleeing people frantically searching for safe refuge to even the fractured crevices emerging from the ground. The creature etched those scenes to memory.

This peculiar observer noted that this monster of darkness was intelligent, with mannerisms akin to a newborn in its curiosity. It was by no means inherently evil, it was simply incompatible with the fragile beings of this world. Yet, it also had no name, it was a rampaging phenomenon, and its diet unfortunately consisted of planets. But who could claim hunger to be a sin? Gluttonous as it was, it would surely die if it did not feast.

'If this planet succumbs to such a fate, then it means there wasn't anyone capable to be enrolled into the academy.' A person noted down, his transcendental eyes of a dozen colors coldly peered at the world crumbling within. His cold stare was unshifting, even when meeting gazes directly with what would be described as the abyss.

He was the Arbitrator, a dimension-traveling being whose only objective was to observe for promising prospects. For a strange academy.

'Oh, its eyes seem to perceive me. Intriguing.' With a snap of his fingers, the calamitous disaster wrought by that void-like being ceased. Its maw was forcibly shunted closed, pressured by an unknown force. The invisible figure, which judged all, finally unveiled himself after being noticed. Dressed in a fashionably dark suit, with slick gray hair, he pondered for a moment.

'My student quota is lacking... Should I kill this being for ruining my chance?' This planet, which once bustled with life, had been a target of observation. Had it flourished for a few hundred more years, it surely would have borne the best of fruits.

The abyss stared back. Its many eyes widening, and so it exchanged a greeting the only way it knew how-- Hundreds of tendrils extended from the beast of darkness, each set to strangle the strange suited man. The creature, colossal beyond comprehension, sent forth its tendrils, each larger than expansive roads against the man of gray.

'Quite precise.' The man thought, lightly dodging each tentacle. Every missed tentacles burrowed further into the planet, splitting the ground, greater than any fissure caused by earthquakes. Endless rumbling, the planet itself seemed to be breathing its last. Volcanoes erupted, sending waves of lava flowing downward, clearing through anything in its path.

'This world seems done for, but really, the deadline is in one Starvia, I simply don't have enough time left. Ah, how impertinent for this being to stop my job.' The man sighed, frustrated at how easily this promising planet was destroyed. The only target for his pent-up stress remaining would be that beast.

'Hmm...' He stared closer at the beast. The creature turned away its head, not used to frantic eye-contact, almost expressing a hint of embarrassment. 'How stupid, emotion is reserved solely for humans, you beast... Unless?'

The Arbitrator thought for a good second. A tendril drilled deep into the planet's skin, reaching the core. There, the beast drank greedily, usurping the core of this planet until something cracked. The life of the planet was being drained in real-time.

"Ah." He uttered unknowingly. Yet the planet no longer remained, it had burst into a billion particles, scattered across the cosmos. The abyss was all that remained, harder to detect in the vastness of space now.

"Beast." He fiddled with an artefact attached to his breast-pocket, the Coda of Understanding. The Arbitrator had done this a million times, yet he was unsure if it would accurately translate his words to a planet-devouring beast.

However, he did gain its attention. And in that sole moment,

"How would you like to be a student?" To which the beast inquisitively tilted its head, sending shivers down the man's spine. It was disgusting to see such a blood-drenched creature, bigger than planets, act remotely cute. Then he realised, rather belatedly, that the word 'student' would be impossible to be translated.

It was a concept far too distant, far too incomprehensible, to something as simple-minded as this Abyss-like creature.

Yet it consented, as confused as it was. And that sealed the pact, the Arbitrator nodded in response. Invoking a large see-through cube, he sealed the beast within it and prepared to transport it away. This cube was far greater in scale compared to the destroyed planet, arbitrarily changing its size to fit the target.

'Looks like I'm safely reaching my quota. Ah, but certainly, I can't send it off in that form. Let's see...' The man thought yet again. 'I'll just have to disguise this thing as a human. Your name, for the time being, is now Crescent.'
