Chapter 37 - Scrolling for the Soul

I struggled getting my new bike up the stairs, ugh, if only Reed or Pride could help carry stuff. Unfortunately, I was the only one with a physical body.

After a mortifying trip past two other tenants, I was able to hide in my apart. I was panting as I locked the door behind me.

"The wheel should be narrow enough to fit on the hook." Ire announced as his little red body leapt from my key chain. Maybe one day I would try convincing him he was actually in a mouse doll.

"Pant, pant, yeah, okay, pant pant, just a sec." I leaned back looking at the thin hook that blended into the ceiling… well. The bike wasn't going to hang itself.

I lifted the bike by the bottom half the frame, pulling on the wheel to angle it up. Well, before I could register that that wheels of bikes do in fact spin, it spun. The angle had me toppling forward. I lay in a heap, tangled in the bike.

"Are you okay Max?" Mai asked worriedly as she circled me.

"That looked like it hurt." Ire commented.

"Maybe… not grip the part of the bike that moves?" Pride recommended.

"Owwwww." I groaned after a solid moment. Hindsight is a beautiful thing. Ace, Reed, and Lily were staring at me, surely their doll faces just had a hard time showing concern. No way they were laughing at me.

Tony was trying to lift the bike off me. At least one of them was trying to help. I sat up, pushing the bike off. How I'd ended up underneath it was a mystery for the ages.

"Well, won't make that mistake twice." I agreed picking the bike up for take two. This time grabbing the bike by the frame with both hands. I aimed for the hook, elbows and back lightly aching from the fall.

As if to mock me, the front wheel turned… I had to set the bike down to catch my breath. It wasn't that heavy… but lifting it over my head wasn't easy. I sighed leaning against the wall.

"We could try lifting from the middle so you can hold onto the front wheel?" Pride recommended as he shook his mane out.

"Third time's the charm yeah?" I asked lifting the bike up again. I even went up on tip toes, I was just barely missing the hook. I just needed an inch!

"Well… that sucks." I announced. Lowering the bike down when my arms started to ache. I leaned over the bike so my head was on the wall. "I'll… figure it out later. It can just stay against the wall for now."

"Food is good, we can brainstorm ideas!" Tony offered running circles in the kitchen.

"Food is a great idea." I agreed despite my still queasy stomach from Larry's driving. Dinner was left overs, easy to warm up. I ended up eating less than half. I was just… exhausted.

"Think I'm going to hit the sac early. Or at least hang out on my bed and scroll." I said after cleaning up. I should practice with Pride… I just… needed to lay down. To not have to think.

"Don't… force yourself… breaks… are good." Ace agreed reaching his paws out to me.

I obliged by picking him up. I took a quick shower, clean up, prepped for tomorrow, then finally was able to just lay in bed. Silly puppy videos were good for the soul.

As I was grinning at another pup completion, Robby sent a text. Unfortunately, because I was scrolling I accidentally opened it up.

You still alive? What happened?

Rather than just pretend he wouldn't see that I saw his text, I gave a quick response.

Coworker took me to look at bikes, was kinda nervous. Tell you all about it later

Fine ya scrub! Don't forget to tell us about lake party! Luvs!

I went back to scrolling. Scrolling heals the soul.
