Amir realized that the tremors earlier had been caused by the sonic scanner he deployed, which had agitated the slug-like creatures below.

But just how massive would a creature need to be to cause tremors like that?

The thought gave Amir chills.

"Haha, sorry, I didn't realize how things worked around here," Amir said awkwardly. He had been caught red-handed—no point trying to explain.

"You should pay for my ship!! And my belongings! My whole life's in there!"

"Your ship's fine on the inside. Just some exterior damage. And that ship hasn't been worth much in a long time. I'll give you a thousand credits, tops." Amir was being reasonable, but he wasn't going to let himself be taken for a fool.

"A thousand?! I can't even buy a second-hand engine for that!"

But the man hesitated for a split second before shifting the topic: "But—if you agree to help me with something, I'll let it go. In fact, you might even make a fortune out of it."

Amir looked at the suddenly smiling man and shook his head in exasperation.

"Fifteen hundred. That's the best I can do," Amir crossed his arms, showing he wouldn't budge.

"I'm serious! And thanks to you, I'm stuck here now—you at least owe me a lift out of here!"

"Or I could just leave you here forever," Amir replied coldly.

"Hmph." The man let out a faint scoff, quickly masking it with a grin.

"My name's Charles. Kid, trust me—you're trying to get into this ruin, right? Help me out, and I'll help you. I've been surviving on this planet for over two years."

"And what I need isn't hard."

"I'm Amir. Follow me." With that, Amir turned toward the scanner. BD-4 eyed the stranger warily as he followed.

"Oh, little guy, you're a rare one," Charles said as he walked behind Amir. "Smart droids like you aren't easy to come by."

"I'd say don't bother with that scanner—it's useless! I tried it myself. There's no way to pierce the walls of that ruin."

Amir wasn't about to take his word for it. He approached the scanner, which had just finished its scan. He pressed the small control module, and a holographic map appeared before them.

Sure enough, Charles hadn't lied—at least not about that.

The mountain showed only a vague outline. Much of the interior was rendered as pitch black. The dark mass resembled a massive pyramid.

"See, kid? I wasn't lying!"

Amir ignored him. If the scanner couldn't reveal the interior, then he'd have to rely on his own Force sensitivity.

Focusing on the surrounding Force, Amir began to walk the perimeter of the mountain.

"You don't seriously think walking around it will help you find an entrance, do you?" Charles scoffed. "If it were that easy, I'd have gotten in already!"

"Let's just hope there's no avalanche," Amir muttered, glancing up. The mountain was steep and mostly ice—an avalanche didn't seem likely.

"You're serious? Fine, but I'm not stupid enough to follow you around in this cold. I'll wait here."

"Suit yourself," Amir replied. His ship was securely locked. Even if Charles managed to pry it open, he couldn't start it without the key.

The lock system was integrated into Amir's wrist bracer, and the key was stored safely in his backpack.

Amir tuned out the noise behind him and focused on his surroundings as he walked.

As time passed, he became more and more aware of the tight structure of the mountain.

The internal architecture was pyramid-shaped and symmetrical. That meant the entrance might be at the center of one of the triangular faces.

The frustrating part? Half the pyramid was buried underground. If the entrance was at the bottom rather than mid-slope, was he supposed to dig his way in?

Yeah, no. Amir wasn't about to turn the Traveler into an excavator.

He finally reached the center of one face. Expanding his Force sensitivity, he indeed felt a denser concentration of energy inside.

A faint, dark energy—possibly dark side Force.

Taking a deep breath, Amir pressed on.

The walk took a long time. The deep snow reached halfway up his calves, making movement a slog.

When he reached the center of the second face, he knew it was a dead end. The entrance wasn't there.

Still, buildings tied to the Force often had hidden entrances or locks triggered by Force users. He stayed alert for any suspicious terrain.

But by the time he'd circled back toward the Traveler, he'd come up empty.

From a distance, he spotted Charles poking around the ship like a sneak.

"Ahem," Amir called out.

"Oh!" Charles quickly hid his hands behind his back and stepped away, playing it cool. "Nice ship."

"Haha, came up empty, didn't you? Ready to consider my offer now?"

Amir checked over the Traveler. Nothing seemed out of place.

"Talk," Amir said at last. With no leads, he might as well hear what the man had to say.

"Why don't we go inside? Temperatures are about to drop fast," Charles suggested, completely ignoring the fact that his coat was still wide open.

"Come in, but don't try anything stupid. It's for your own good," Amir warned. He meant it. The man didn't seem like scum, and Amir preferred to part ways peacefully. If Charles had useful intel, Amir wouldn't mind helping out.

He opened the hatch. BD-4 was first inside, tossing off its towel and shaking off snow.

The heat from the main cabin had already bled out with the repeated door openings. Amir adjusted the thermostat, dialing down the energy consumption to maintain a tolerable temperature.

The bedroom, being well insulated, would still be warm for sleeping.

"Ah! This place is freezing. The ship's so much nicer. Without you, I'd be long gone from this icy hellhole," Charles said, hanging his coat and plopping down on the couch.

Amir didn't react, taking the seat opposite him.

"Start talking. Why are you here?"

"For the money, obviously. Why else come to a dump like this?"

"What could be worth anything here?" Amir thought about the snow-covered nothingness, then something clicked. "Wait... under the crevice?"

"Haha, now we're talking! You're sharp. I like that," Charles rubbed his stubbled chin. "Yeah, this place sucks, but smugglers still risk coming here. All because of something that grows in that pitch-black rift."

"Something that grows?"

"Yep. It's a kind of fungus. Has psychoactive effects. On the black market, they call it Lumnis Spice."
