Carl lounged in his Hell's Kitchen apartment, a modest space provided by Kakashi to give him and Blonsky a shot at a normal life.
Blonsky lived in another apartment in the street next to his.
Kakashi's words echoed in his mind, 'Live like people, not weapons.' Creel was relaxed as he sprawled on the couch, laptop open to an R-18 web novel Kakashi had recommended, 'Mommie, Me… and Them'.
His eyes widened, his expression turned lewd—jaw slack, a goofy grin spreading as he scrolled through a particularly steamy scene.
The main character has slept with his friend's mother who had also slept with the main characters brother.
His thoughts were filled with delight. 'Holy… Kakashi reads this? I get it now why he's into this stuff. It… gives some internal happiness and satisfaction?!'
His reverie shattered as his instincts kicked in due to his training with Kakashi. He touched the laptop, his skin shifting to metallic silver.
'I was just getting to the good part and they just had to ruin it.' Creel thought irritated.
The windows exploded inward, glass shards flying as five armed men rappelled through, their boots hitting the floor with a thud. The familiar clang of fists rang out, smashing against Creel's armored jaw.
Despite his metal form, the force sent him crashing into the wall, drywall cracking.
His thoughts were indignant. 'What the fuck?! Agh… just my luck that an enhanced is attacking me. Do they fall from sky these days?'
Creel counted five attackers and he hoped that not all of them were enhanced and had some stupid superpower like Kakashi or Abomination.
Creel reacted fast, hurling the coffee table like it weighed nothing. It smashed into two men, sending them crashing through the drywall.
Another attacker swung a blade, the metal screeching against Creel's metal arm. He blocked it effortlessly, countering with a crushing backhand that sent the man skidding across the floor, his jaw broken, blood pooling beneath him.
"Big mistake comin' to my house."
He grabbed his vest from the couch, absorbing the strongest durable metal he had on hand.
Two men opened fire, bullets sparking harmlessly off his metal hide, ricocheting into the walls.
Creel grinned before chargint at his attackers, grabbing one attacker and slamming him through the kitchen counter, wood splintering, blood spraying as the man's ribs cracked.
He grabbed another by the throat, sneering, "You don't know who I work for… you don't want to. My boss? He's scary. Way scarier than any of you with your weapons."
But the attackers were prepared. One soldier pulled a compact device—an electrified baton linked to a power pack, its tip crackling with blue energy. Another kicked over a broken pipe, water gushing across the floor, pooling around Creel's feet.
The attackers feigned retreat, herding him into the flooded living room. Then—*ZZZAAAKK!* A surge of electricity slammed into him, his steel body a perfect conductor. Blue arcs crawled across his form, his muscles seizing as he roared in pain, dropping to one knee.
The attacker pumped more current, the air reeking of ozone and burning metal, Creel's skin scorching. His thoughts were bitter. 'Yeah, Kakashi's gonna throw me into the ringer again for such a poor performance.'
In agony, Creel fumbled for a kunai in his vest's pocket, two paper seals attached to it.
'Come on, work.' With a grunt, he ripped one seal off, his burned hands shaking. The attackers moved to secure him, noting his skin reverting to human, marred with burn marks.
Before they could reach him, a swirl of air erupted, and Kakashi appeared, his foot slamming into the nearest attackers's chest, sending him crashing into a wall, blood spurting from a broken nose.
Kakashi assessed the situation, 'Five enhanced.'
He surveyed the room, his eye landing on Creel. "Having an eventful day, huh, Creel?"
Creel's voice dripped with sarcasm, his thoughts pained. "If you think getting electrocuted with burns all over my body is eventful, then yes, it was eventful."
Kakashi's gaze flicked to the five men who were currently regrouping. "Anyone who are your friends?" Kakashi asked, his voice lazy.
"Don't know. I was having a good time reading the novel you suggested, and then they rudely kicked in through the windows."
Kakashi's voice cut through, his tone dead serious,"So… do you think in the next sequel Max would get back together with Emma, or would he… have a one-night stand with her, then go with Sussie?"
Creel's thoughts screeched to a halt, his pain forgotten. 'Is he serious right now?' His expression was a mix of agony and disbelief, his thoughts exasperated. "I'd prefer the second route. I'd love to see Max and Emma for one final time… wait, we have more important things to do." His voice was annoyed. They were fighting enhanced, and he was talking about romance plots?
Creel's mind refocused, his voice strained. "These guys are enhanced. I didn't notice any special ability apart from super strength and enhanced durability."
Kakashi's voice was casual, his thoughts analytical. "Is that so?" He looked at the five men lazily.
