Chapter 160 - Chapter 160: Garchomp's Character Flaw

"Do you two want to try capturing this Tyranitar? Maybe your charisma is so off the charts that it'll just decide to follow you," Jiang Chen said with a chuckle, looking at the two women.

"Stop teasing us. Tyranitar won't even give us the time of day it only cares about you. If even you couldn't get it to follow you, what chance do we have?"

Ling Wanqiu and Xiao Luoxue had absolutely no intention of trying. To earn the recognition of a wild Pokémon, simple charisma wasn't enough; you needed the strength to suppress them before they would even listen.

Furthermore, they didn't possess Aura Power, so they couldn't communicate with Tyranitar with the same ease as Jiang Chen. Seeing the unfriendly glint in Tyranitar's eyes as it looked at them, they weren't about to go up there and humiliate themselves.

"Goodbye, Tyranitar. If there's a chance in the future, maybe I'll come back to see you." Jiang Chen waved at the massive Pokémon.

After Jiang Chen and the others left, Tyranitar went back to sleep. Its strength had already reached the pinnacle of ordinary Pokémon at Champion Rank 9; with no further room for growth, there was nothing left to do but sleep.

Leaving Tyranitar's territory, Jiang Chen turned his gaze toward the little entity beside him. Under its master's stare, it looked incredibly uneasy, trembling slightly as if it feared Jiang Chen was about to do something terrible to it.

"Relax, I'm not going to punish you. I've forgiven you for your earlier mischief, but I need you to do something for me now."

Hearing that it wasn't going to be punished, it visibly relaxed and gave Jiang Chen an immediate assurance that it could handle whatever was needed.

"You should be able to sense the strength of all the Pokémon in this mountain range, right?" Jiang Chen asked.

"Diyo!" It nodded. It certainly had that ability; otherwise, it wouldn't have been able to accurately lead Jiang Chen and the others directly to that Champion Rank 9 Tyranitar.

"Then take me to find a Pokémon whose strength is close to Garchomp's." Jiang Chen released his Garchomp and gave the command.

The little entity vanished instantly and returned a moment later, bringing an exceptionally confused Golem back with it. The Golem was utterly dazed. I was just sunbathing with my subordinates, how did I suddenly end up here?

"An Elite Four Rank 6 Golem. Not bad. Garchomp, don't lose."

Garchomp nodded, then immediately lunged forward, using Dual Chop on the Golem. Although the Golem was confused, it wasn't blind; it could see this Pokémon was attacking, and in its rage, it struck back. It used Defense Curl and then went into a Rollout, charging straight toward Garchomp.

Boom!

The successive strikes of Dual Chop slammed into Golem. Its heavy body was sent flying like a ball, crashing deep into a rock wall. The entire mountain shook from the impact. Garchomp wore a look of disdain as if saying this Golem was far too weak.

"Arrogance is the greatest of sins; Garchomp is simply too conceited," Jiang Chen sighed.

"Then why don't you find a way to help it change its personality?"

"Exactly. This Garchomp of yours should have had its attitude adjusted long ago. Its personality is just terrible."

To be honest, neither Ling Wanqiu nor Xiao Luoxue had a good impression of Jiang Chen's Garchomp. They hadn't forgotten the way it looked down on them.

"Do you think I haven't tried? It's just how it is," Jiang Chen said, spreading his hands helplessly. He had tried many times to curb Garchomp's arrogance, even having it battle Dragonite and Gardevoir to knock it down a peg, but nothing had changed.

"Since it has the strength to back it up, let it stay arrogant."

Jiang Chen wasn't going to force a change anymore. While it tended to underestimate enemies, Garchomp's pride also made it incredibly strict with itself. If it ever lost, it would train desperately to surpass its opponent. Its personality was a double-edged sword, and since he couldn't fix the flaw, he decided to leave it be.

As they spoke, the Golem that had been smashed into the cliff emerged. With a body forged entirely of rock, every step it took caused the ground to tremble. Garchomp's previous attack hadn't actually caused much damage;

Golem was incredibly resilient. Rock-type and Steel-type Pokémon were notoriously tough. As a Rock and Ground-type, Golem possessed exceptionally high physical attack and defense.

Jiang Chen didn't interfere in the fight. He stood a short distance away, protected by Gardevoir and the little entity, ensuring they wouldn't be caught in the crossfire.

"It's too clumsy. It's no match for Garchomp at all."

Golem's attacks couldn't even graze Garchomp. Instead, Garchomp used its superior speed to keep Golem suppressed. Even in a direct clash of power, Golem was outmatched, and now Garchomp was simply using its speed to toy with the opponent.

"True. While this guy's level is technically the same as Garchomp's, their actual combat effectiveness isn't even in the same league," Jiang Chen noted, nodding. Letting Garchomp fight this Golem wouldn't provide much meaningful experience because the gap in power was too wide.

"Garchomp, come back," Jiang Chen called out.

Mid-attack, Garchomp paused, retracted its arms, and though it looked reluctant, it obediently returned to its Poké Ball.

"Slaking, it's your turn."

After recalling Garchomp, Jiang Chen released his violent powerhouse, Slaking. There was a level gap between Slaking and this Golem, but because this Slaking possessed the Huge Power ability combined with its terrifying base stats, it completely surpassed even pseudo-legendaries. Its combat power was horrifying. Even against a Golem at a higher level, it wouldn't necessarily lose.

As soon as Slaking emerged, it let out a roar and charged at Golem with its characteristically reckless abandon. It threw a direct Mega Punch. The heavy blow sent Golem flying, and Slaking was on its heels instantly to follow up.

With Truant replaced by Huge Power, Slaking had no weaknesses. Slaking was only at Elite Four Rank 2, yet it was currently chasing down and thrashing an Elite Four Rank 6 Golem. Although Golem had taken some minor damage from Garchomp, Slaking's sheer destructive force was undeniable.

"Slaking is so fierce. Luckily, you rarely use it when we spar," Ling Wanqiu remarked, feeling a chill at Slaking's ferocity.

A Slaking without Truant was truly more dominant than a pseudo-legendary, especially since this one had Huge Power, which doubled its physical attack. Golem's body was made of rock, but that didn't mean it was immune to pain.

Being beaten senseless by Slaking was causing it significant agony. Slaking was truly treating Golem like a ball, shrugging off Golem's impacts only to hurl it away and continue the brutal pummeling.

"This is too miserable. I feel so sorry for this Golem," Xiao Luoxue said, looking at the Pokémon with pity.

To be suddenly snatched from nowhere and then immediately subjected to such a one-sided beating Golem must be feeling incredibly aggrieved.
