Mew looked pitifully at Jiang Chen, begging for forgiveness. It confessed that it had led them to this Tyranitar on purpose, partly out of a sense of playfulness and partly because it knew Jiang Chen's goal. Knowing he wanted to find powerful Pokémon for training and sparring, it had brought him directly to the strongest Pokémon in the area.
Bringing him here was done with good intentions, but still...
"Is this really an opponent I can win against?" Jiang Chen was somewhat speechless.
*[Tyranitar]*
*Gender:* Male
*Strength:* Level 9 Champion
*Potential:* Champion
*Attributes:* Rock, Dark
*Ability:* Sand Stream
*Moves:* Sandstorm, Bite, Crunch, Fire Fang, Thunder Fang, Mega Punch, Stone Edge, Rock Throw, Hyper Beam, Giga Impact.
After using his Investigative Eye to scan the Tyranitar's information, Jiang Chen threw up his hands. A Level 9 Champion Tyranitar was likely the strongest existence below the rank of a Legendary Pokémon. Although Jiang Chen possessed Legendary Pokémon that were indeed more powerful than this Tyranitar, there was no point in using one to crush it.
He was here to train his Dragonite and Gardevoir, not to simply use Legendary Pokémon to steamroll everyone else.
"This fellow seems incredibly angry, though we haven't even done anything yet," Jiang Chen said, feeling a slight headache. Facing an enraged Tyranitar, it was clear that the opponent wasn't interested in talking reason.
"This Tyranitar has so many scars," Ling Wanqiu noted. She looked at the marks covering its armor with a gaze full of pity. In the wild, Pokémon often carried the scars of their battles; without anyone to treat them, the marks were destined to stay on their bodies forever.
"Those scars are its medals of honor. This Tyranitar isn't just scarred; its strength is terrifying," Jiang Chen whispered to Ling Wanqiu and Xiao Luoxue.
"Is it really that strong?" Xiao Luoxue asked, puzzled. She couldn't feel any overwhelming aura radiating from the Pokémon. Generally, the stronger a Pokémon was, the more intense its presence became.
In reality, this Tyranitar's aura was horrifying. They couldn't feel it only because Mew was shielding them. With the pressure completely blocked, they remained oblivious to the Tyranitar's overwhelming power.
"A Level 9 Champion Tyranitar how could it not be strong?"
Jiang Chen's words left Xiao Luoxue and Ling Wanqiu stunned.
"This Tyranitar is a Level 9 Champion? It doesn't feel like it. I don't sense the aura a Champion should have," Xiao Luoxue asked, still skeptical. She knew exactly how intense the aura of an enraged Champion Pokémon was, yet the Tyranitar before them lacked that weight. Could it have reached a state of returning to simplicity?
"You can't feel its aura only because Mew is blocking it for you. Otherwise, we would find it difficult just to stand here," Jiang Chen explained.
At that moment, the Tyranitar began stomping toward them. It had been sleeping peacefully until it was suddenly startled awake, and its fury was palpable. Even a Dragonite would likely have a foul temper if woken up like that, let alone a Tyranitar.
One only had to look at its title, the Sandstorm Tyrant, to understand its personality. If it had a good temperament, it wouldn't be called a tyrant.
"What do we do now?" Xiao Luoxue and Ling Wanqiu immediately huddled close to Jiang Chen. A Level 9 Champion Pokémon was far too dangerous for them to handle.
"Tyran...!!!"
With another roar, the Tyranitar unleashed a Hyper Beam toward Jiang Chen.
"This guy really has quite the temper," Jiang Chen muttered to himself.
Suddenly, the Tyranitar's attack was intercepted. Mew reached out a small hand and effortlessly blocked the Hyper Beam. Seeing its attack stopped so easily, the Tyranitar showed a remarkably human-like expression of shock. It was clearly stunned by Mew's power.
Even though it hadn't used its full strength, the Tyranitar was confident that no other Pokémon in the Yunheng Mountains could have stood in the way of that Hyper Beam.
"Mew, you don't need to step in. Let Articuno come out and get some exercise," Jiang Chen said as he released Articuno.
"Cuno!"
Once released, Articuno soared into the sky. With a single flap of its wings, snowflakes began to drift down from the heavens. A biting chill spread through the air, and wherever Articuno flew, a heavy blizzard followed. Such was the power of a Legendary Pokémon and this was merely one of its external manifestations.
Upon seeing its opponent, Articuno seemed to have a question mark hovering over its head. You want me to deal with this Tyranitar?
When it was called out, Articuno had assumed it would be facing another Legendary Pokémon. It never expected to be tasked with handling a mere Tyranitar. Articuno disdained even lifting a wing against such a creature. This was the pride of a Legendary Pokémon; only another of its rank was worthy of its attention. It didn't care at all for a simple Pseudo-Legendary.
"What are you standing around for? Hurry up and move," Jiang Chen reminded the bird.
Reluctantly, Articuno flapped its wings. A violent gale surged toward the Tyranitar, literally blowing it off its feet. Following up with a single Air Slash, the Tyranitar was instantly defeated.
"And just like that, it's over. As expected, even a Level 9 Champion Pokémon is no match for a Legendary," Ling Wanqiu said, glancing at the fallen Tyranitar.
"Are you going to catch it?" Xiao Luoxue turned to Jiang Chen.
"Forget about catching it. Champion-level Pokémon aren't so easily tamed; it wouldn't listen to me," Jiang Chen shook his head.
Unless he had Mew alter its memories to make it completely loyal, but Jiang Chen wouldn't do such a thing lightly. He had only permitted Mew to do that once before to Lin Taichu's Pokémon.
"Mew, heal the Tyranitar's injuries."
"Mew?"
Mew was a bit confused. It had just beaten the Tyranitar into the ground, and now it was being told to heal it. Was this some kind of game? However, Mew was very obedient. Following Jiang Chen's order, it restored the Tyranitar to perfect health.
The Tyranitar opened its eyes, its gaze now wary and alert rather than purely ferocious. Powerful Pokémon possessed significant intelligence, and this one had clearly realized that Jiang Chen was someone it couldn't afford to provoke. It reined in its temper.
Though it had a bad personality, it understood the concept of a wise person submitting to circumstances.
"I apologize for the rude awakening. We actually bear you no ill will," Jiang Chen said to the Tyranitar. He reached into his bag and pulled out some food that Rock type Pokémon favored.
Looking at the food and the deliberate display of goodwill, the Tyranitar accepted the offering. Through Aura Power, Jiang Chen conveyed his sincerity, successfully earning the Tyranitar's trust. The Pokémon became noticeably friendlier.
"This Tyranitar is so massive."
Standing beside it and observing from a close distance, they realized this individual was much larger than a normal member of its species. Jiang Chen also had a Tyranitar, but in terms of size, his would only reach this one's shoulder. And Jiang Chen's Tyranitar was already considered large for its species.
Jiang Chen sat down and conversed with the Pokémon for a while. He learned that this fellow was the undisputed overlord of the Yunheng Mountains, the strongest creature in the entire range. It claimed it had never met a worthy opponent here.
"Would you like to come with us and leave this place?" Jiang Chen issued an invitation.
He knew it would be difficult to catch, but it would be a lie to say he wasn't interested in it. He had to at least try; there was always a chance it might agree to follow him.
To Jiang Chen's regret, the Tyranitar shook its head. It had lived here for over a hundred years and was accustomed to its territory. It had no desire to leave.
Since the Tyranitar was unwilling to follow him, Jiang Chen didn't force the matter. He had long expected it to be a difficult recruitment.
"If you're unwilling, then so be it."
Jiang Chen would not use force. If he coerced it, the Tyranitar would surely turn against him eventually. Even without catching it, they had at least established a friendly relationship. If he ever needed help in the future, he believed this overlord would show him some respect and wouldn't refuse a request. Though, in reality, Jiang Chen didn't expect to ever need its help.
"That's a pity," Ling Wanqiu and Xiao Luoxue both sighed, feeling bad that Jiang Chen couldn't take the Tyranitar with them.
"It's nothing to be sad about."
It wasn't a Legendary Pokémon, after all. If a Legendary had refused him, he would have felt the loss, but for a Level 9 Champion Tyranitar, Jiang Chen didn't mind. Most of his own Pokémon would grow to that level in the future, and their potential was certainly not inferior to this wild Pokémon's.
His own Tyranitar might even surpass this one one day. Jiang Chen had great confidence in his own Pokémon.
