Chapter 44 - Chapter 43: The Second Date

Chapter 43: The Second Date

---

Salvatore House – Morning

Golden rays of sunlight lazily slipped through the curtains, warm and soft, but the peace hanging over the Salvatore house was about to be shattered by something rarer than supernatural crises: Alexander's tension.

He was pacing the living room back and forth, adjusting the collar of his shirt every five seconds, staring at his reflection in the ornate mirror as if it were his mortal enemy. Meanwhile, Damon was sprawled on the couch, sipping a pre-noon bourbon as usual, watching Alexander with eyes gleaming with mockery. Stefan stood leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, a smirk tugging at his lips like he'd been waiting for this moment his whole life.

"Is he... sweating?" Stefan asked, genuine surprise in his voice.

Damon raised an eyebrow.

"I didn't even know he could sweat. Looks like even helllords get the jitters before a date."

Alexander shot them a dark look.

"Say one more word and I'll rip both your heads off."

Damon chuckled.

"Touchy! But don't deny it. Who would've thought the terrifying Alexander would lose his cool over a date?"

Stefan stepped forward, eyes sparkling with amusement.

"But seriously now… Bonnie? How the hell did that happen? I mean, I still can't believe you pulled off the first date, and now a second?"

Alexander stopped pacing.

"We've been through a lot together. She was there when I was cursed. She brought me back… She's kind. Strong. I…" He cleared his throat, shifting his tone, "I like her."

Damon nearly choked on his drink.

"You like her? That's so sweet it's giving me hives."

Alexander rolled his eyes.

"You two are worse than children."

Stefan raised a calming hand.

"But seriously, we're happy for you. Bonnie's amazing."

Damon snorted.

"And maybe she'll finally crack that doom-and-gloom shell you live in."

Alexander smirked.

"I doubt it."

Damon gave him a puzzled look.

"But really, why are you this tense? It's the second date, not like it's your first time seeing her."

Alexander sighed.

"That's just it. I really want this to go perfectly. And I mean perfectly. The first date was nice, yes. But what if she doesn't like the second? What if she doesn't smile? What if—"

Suddenly, his phone buzzed. Bonnie's name lit up on the screen, with a little heart next to it. Stefan leaned over to peek, then gasped dramatically.

"Did you put a heart next to her name?"

Alexander muttered,

"Kill me now."

Bonnie's House – Same Morning

Caroline Forbes had made a disaster zone out of Bonnie's closet, hurling dresses left and right onto the bed, when Elena rushed in, breathless.

"Is it true?" Elena asked.

Bonnie sighed, trying to hide her smile as she pulled out a simple black dress.

"Yes."

Elena shrieked.

"Alexander?!"

Caroline turned, holding a shiny pair of earrings in one hand.

"You're going on a date. With Alexander. The guy who ripped out a vampire's heart while laughing?"

Bonnie said calmly,

"He saved all our lives, too. And he's… changed. He's calmer now. Sort of."

Caroline blinked.

"Bonnie. That man looks like he eats chaos for breakfast."

Elena sat on the bed, mouth still hanging open.

"Do you actually like him?"

Bonnie nodded.

"It wasn't planned. It just… happened."

Caroline grinned wide.

"Well, hell has officially frozen over. And you are wearing that dress, right?"

Bonnie shot her an exasperated look, but eventually smiled.

"Yes."

Caroline beamed.

"And the heels."

"Okay."

"And the sparkly lip gloss—"

"Caroline."

Elena laughed.

"You know? I think you two might actually work."

Bonnie's eyes shimmered softly.

"I think so too."

That Night – The Date Begins

At the Salvatore house, Alexander was adjusting his shirt cuffs for the millionth time. Stefan approached and gently patted his shoulder.

"Just be yourself."

Damon added with a wide grin,

"But maybe tone down the 'death lord' aura a bit."

Alexander growled sarcastically,

"Such helpful advice."

Then came a knock at the door.

Bonnie stood on the threshold, radiant in her black dress, glowing with that quiet confidence that always gave her a touch of magic. Alexander opened the door and froze for a moment, forgetting how to speak.

"You look…" he began, then stopped, "amazing."

Bonnie smiled.

"And you don't look too bad yourself."

Behind him, Stefan and Damon peeked from the living room, eager to witness the scene.

"Be good!" Stefan called.

"And don't kill anyone on the second date! At least wait till the third!" Damon added.

Alexander turned, raised his middle finger at them, then shut the door firmly.

He and Bonnie left for their date—and to Alexander's surprise,

everything went smoothly. Peacefully.

And just like that, the second date ended.

Bonnie's Porch – Late Evening

The moon hung low over Mystic Falls, casting a silver glow on the quiet street, as Alexander walked up the steps to Bonnie's porch beside her. They hadn't exchanged many words on the way back. But the silence between them was comfortable, gentle and fluid—something Alexander never thought he'd come to know.

He stopped at her door, hands in his coat pockets, looking at her with a gaze hard to decipher—one he usually wore, but tonight... it was different. His eyes held warmth. And a calm he had never shown before.

Bonnie turned to face him, meeting his gaze.

"Thank you… for tonight."

He nodded slightly, then hesitated before speaking in a low voice.

"I never thought I'd go on a date. Let alone enjoy one."

Bonnie laughed softly.

"You're a lot better than you think."

He said quietly,

"I had a good teacher."

She stepped closer.

"So… is this the part where we say goodnight?"

He met her gaze steadily.

"Not yet."

Then, without another word, he leaned in—gently, almost hesitantly—and kissed her.

It wasn't like any kiss Alexander had known before. Not wild passion, not urgency, not fire. It was peace. The kind that melts old pain and plants something new in its place. Something pure.

Bonnie smiled against his lips, then pulled back a little and said,

"Goodnight, Alexander."

He smiled—a real one this time—then turned and slowly descended the porch steps, while Bonnie stood at her doorway, eyes following him, fingers still touching her lips.

Salvatore House – Front Walkway

Alexander entered the walkway quietly, the engine of Damon's blue car humming softly as it shut off. He stepped out, expecting the house to be dark and silent.

But surprise awaited him.

On the front steps, Damon and Stefan were sitting, arms crossed, smirks plastered on their faces.

Damon stood first, clapping slowly.

"Oh, look who came back in one piece from his second date!"

Alexander scowled.

"Are you serious? You waited for me?"

Stefan said in a mock-serious tone,

"Of course. You're our little brother now, apparently."

Damon swaggered over.

"So? How was it? Did you break her heart? Blow something up? Accidentally trigger the apocalypse again?"

Alexander walked past them silently.

Stefan stood up.

"Wait, wait—hold on. Did you kiss her?"

Alexander stopped at the door, turned, and said,

"None of your business."

Damon laughed, eyeing him.

"He totally kissed her. Look at him—he's glowing! I never thought I'd see this day."

"Shut up."

Stefan chuckled.

"He's blushing."

Alexander opened the front door and warned,

"I'll stab you both in your sleep."

They followed him in, Damon unfazed.

"Worth it."

The three of them stepped into the warmth of their home together, the air inside lighter than usual. No wars. No enemies. Just brothers—bickering, teasing, and maybe, beginning to heal.

And for the first time in a long while, the Salvatore house wasn't just a place where tragedies began.

It was a place where something beautiful had finally started to grow.
