Chapter 6 - Selection (6)

After the director ended her presentation, the evening began to blossom. I made my way to the staff room.

At the entrance, an assistant greeted me and asked:

"Your last name, please?"

"I'm Acno from House Redmane," I answered.

"Follow the corridor and enter the second door on the right," she said.

The floor beneath me had an elegant, polished finish, and the wall to the left was adorned with expensive yet tastefully beautiful paintings. The door I reached bore a plaque labeled:Deputy Headmaster.

After I gently closed the door behind me, a handsome man stood up to greet me. His expression was welcoming—passionate even. He truly looked like someone who enjoyed his profession.

"Hello, Mister Redmane. I'm Mister Spelthill, and it's a pleasure to meet someone as popular and respected as a noble like you."

We shook hands, and I took a seat in front of his desk.

"Before I explain everything about your future class and other formalities, you'll need to fill out this document."

He handed me a set of papers, and I began to fill in the blanks. Most of the questions were simple and honestly not that important—until I reached the section labeled Selection.

"Choose two combat subjects you believe suit you best."

There were quite a few options:

Hand-to-hand combat

Swordsmanship (all sword types)

Bow shooting

Support and tactical assistance

Magic combat

After a short moment of thought, I ticked the boxes for Swordsmanship and Magic combat. Both disciplines shared traits closely tied to the assassin path I intended to pursue.

Next came the Guild Selection.

Guilds in this time are profitable organizations. They provide gear, information, and missions—sometimes dungeon raids with a group, sometimes solo missions for the highly ranked.

Of course, I would've chosen the Assassin Guild…But first, the King banned it.Second, they live in the shadows—and are shadows.

So instead, I ticked the symbol of a black cat. The guild is called Shadow of Kano, specializing in swordsmanship and attacking magic—a perfect fit.

After completing everything, I handed the documents back to Mister Spelthill.

"With all that cleared up," he said, "I can now tell you which class you'll be joining. Each class consists of 50 students. You've been assigned to Class 1-D. It's located in Section 500, right next to your dormitory. And as for your class teachers..."

It was dull—like the presentation—but I listened, at least partly.

"And don't forget: class starts tomorrow."

Before heading to the dormitory, I returned to Via Aurum Street to collect my suitcase from the private carriage. I must say—the carriage was a true masterpiece:The white wings attached at the back symbolized an angel. The golden accents on the white body glistened even under the faintest light. The front was led by perfectly groomed horses, their coats shining like polished ivory.

Just a work of art.

The sun had already set. The streets were near pitch-black. So I hurried to my dormitory—quietly hoping my parents had spared no expense and chosen a luxurious one.
