Chapter 12 - "A Hero in Webs."

-----

"How is this even possible? Is that guy even human?"

Not only were the people on the ground stunned by what was happening above,

those in the other helicopters got the most direct, terrifying look at the scene.

"That guy's a demon!"

Anyone seeing a man rip a military helicopter apart with his bare body wouldn't stay calm.

If you can, it means he's coming straight for you.

"No, he's coming for us! Lower altitude—now!"

The pilot of the targeted helicopter saw the "demon" who'd just destroyed another helicopter speeding toward him, and pure fear gripped him.

He desperately tried to lower the chopper's altitude to dodge the madman.

"Phew, that was close!"

Fear seemed to bring out superhuman skill, as he barely managed to avoid Peter's rush, twisting the helicopter in ways almost impossible to control.

But—

Peter, flying just above, suddenly shot two webs down at the helicopter.

With the webs' help, Peter instantly fixed his usual problem: not being able to change direction mid-jump.

Using the webs, Peter kicked the chopper hard.

Clang clang clang…

The helicopter blades spin hundreds of times per minute, and against a normal body, the impact would be enough to slice it in half.

But this time, when the blades hit Peter, it was like trying to cut through metal with a plastic fan blade.

The blades bent and broke, folding up as Peter forced them to stop spinning.

The whole helicopter instantly lost control and plummeted down fast.

Rat-a-tat-tat...

Just as Peter hovered above the helicopter, ready to punch it to pieces—

Before Peter even noticed, a helicopter had appeared right behind him. The four 12.7mm machine guns on it didn't hesitate—they unleashed a fierce hail of bullets.

These armed helicopter rounds could easily shred through an armored vehicle, but now they were hitting Peter's body. All that happened was sparks flying everywhere, along with the crisp clang of metal striking metal.

Peter didn't even flinch or dodge against the gunfire.

His powerful, steel-like body gave him the strength of a god.

Bullets hitting him were like mosquitoes biting—annoying but harmless.

"Hmph."

A cold smirk formed in his mind as Peter casually snapped off one of the helicopter's rotor blades—the one that was still intact beneath his feet.

Grabbing the blade by one end, he swung it like a boomerang and threw it hard.

Swish…

The sheer force behind it gave the blade incredible power and speed.

"Chief! Dodge—now!"

On that helicopter sat Chief George and one of his officers.

The pilot sensed something was wrong when Peter broke the blade, and tried to turn the chopper to avoid the flying rotor.

But it wasn't enough.

The spinning rotor blade had transformed into a deadly razor.

Flying at a terrifying speed, the blade sliced right through the helicopter's tail, completely severing the cockpit and cabin from the rest of the aircraft.

The entire helicopter was cut in two in an instant, rotor and all.

Luckily, the cabin with the people inside wasn't hit, and everyone in it was unharmed.

But without its rotor and tail, the chopper lost all power and started to slowly fall from the sky.

[Congratulations, Host. Mission completed. Reward is being granted...]

"Huh? What's this... Mission's finally done?"

Peter was about to take out the other helicopters when he suddenly heard the system announce the mission was complete.

Right at that moment, he felt a strange sensation inside his body.

"Is this... a reward for completing the mission, some kind of random ability awakening?"

Instead of worrying, Peter was pumped up by the feeling.

Every superpower he could get was insanely strong—no matter what ability he unlocked, it was a win for him.

"Well, mission's done. Time to get out of here."

With his goal achieved, Peter didn't hesitate to leave and find a safe spot to unlock his new power.

Thinking this, he launched himself from the helicopter like a rocket shooting up into the dark sky.

His speed was so fast that in a blink, he vanished.

At the same time, the system's voice echoed in his ear again.

[Reward granted. Congratulations, Host. You've earned 100 points. Your random special ability awakening is...]

Meanwhile, back on the scene, the chaos wasn't over yet.

Because of what Peter just did in less than a dozen seconds, three fully armed helicopters were completely destroyed.

Their wreckage was still falling from the sky.

Among the debris, there were a few survivors left, terrified and waiting for death.

"Goodbye, Mom. I hope my death benefits make your life easier from now on."

Falling from hundreds of meters up, survival was almost impossible, and parachutes were basically useless at this height.

In those final seconds before death, overwhelming thoughts of loved ones flooded their minds.

"Hell yeah, she did it!"

"Nice work, Spider-Woman!"

"Unbelievable, seriously unbelievable!"

Suddenly, their last moments were interrupted by loud cheers from below.

Seconds before, the first helicopter to be destroyed—with two survivors inside—was about to crash to the ground.

Just when everyone thought tragedy was certain…

A silver spiderweb shot down from the sky.

Then a graceful, beautiful figure appeared out of the darkness—like an angel from heaven.

She saved the survivors trapped in the wreckage.

Next, she also miraculously rescued survivors from the second falling helicopter.

At that moment, every cop on the ground who witnessed it couldn't help but cheer from their hearts.

Right then, the figure in the torn spider suit wasn't a criminal causing chaos anymore.

She was a hero saving lives in the face of danger.

"Dear Gwen, dear Helen... I'm sorry I won't be able to see you in my final moments."

With the helicopter just dozens of meters from the ground, Chief George Stacy silently apologized to his wife and daughter in his heart.

Bang!

Suddenly, a voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

He snapped his eyes open and saw a familiar figure.

It was Spider-Woman—the very person he had been desperately trying to capture.

For some reason, she had come into the cockpit just as the helicopter was about to crash.

"Stop right there! Don't move or I'll shoot!"

Without hesitation, Chief George pulled out his gun and pointed it at her.

But she acted like she didn't even hear the warning.

She smashed through the windows on both sides of the cockpit and shot several strands of web toward the nearby buildings.

Then she flipped upside down, bracing her long legs against the roof of the cockpit.

In an instant, the free-falling cockpit was yanked to a halt by her incredible strength. The speed of the descent slowed significantly.

When it was just a few meters from the ground, it finally came to a complete stop.

Inside the cockpit, the sudden jolt had everyone stumbling from the abrupt stop…

…but throughout the whole thing, Captain George never lowered his gun. He kept it aimed right at the Spider-Woman who was working her butt off to save them.

"You all need to get out of here, now! I can't hold this much longer!"

Only after the cockpit had completely stopped did Gwen finally speak up, her voice anxious. She was gripping the webs so tightly that blood was starting to seep from the base of her thumbs.

Meanwhile, the cops on the ground had already laid out something soft below the cockpit to cushion the landing.

"You guys go first," she urged.

"Captain, what about you?" one of the officers asked.

As everyone else got out safely, it seemed like Captain George had no intention of leaving just yet.

"I want to see for myself what kind of face is hiding under that mask."

Slowly, George stepped closer to Gwen—who was still immobilized—and reached for her mask.

But just as his hand was about to lift it, he suddenly stopped.

"Hey! Looks like you folks could use a hand!"

Right when George seemed to hesitate, a voice called out from nearby.

At the same time, Gwen suddenly felt the cockpit go weightless. She quickly flipped out and landed on the ground, dodging George's hand.

Both of them turned toward the voice, and what they saw left them stunned—a guy in a red cape was hovering outside the cockpit, effortlessly holding up the entire thing with one hand, something Gwen had barely managed to do with everything she had.
