Daemon sat in his office, surrounded by maps and reports from the investigation. Despite their best efforts, they had yet to uncover any solid leads on the vampire responsible for the murders. It was frustrating, to say the least, and Daemon could feel the tension mounting among his clan. Since they have cleared the things with the humans, they were at least at ease on this point.
As he pondered their next move, there was a soft knock on the door. "come in," he called, not bothering to look up from his work.
Nate stepped into the room, his expression grave. "Daemon, I have a news."
Daemon looked up, his interest piqued. "What is it?"
Nate handed him a report, his brow furrowed in concern. "We've managed to put a hand on the murderer"
Daemon smiled. "great job!" he stood immediately and walked with Nate to exit the house. "do we know who he is? Where he is coming from? And who he is working for?"
"We're not sure yet. I came to inform you as soon as we got him. You'll be able to question him yourself."
Daemon nodded, his eyes turning a few shades darker than they already were. Almost hollow. They were getting to the end of this. He would make that person talk, so they could eliminate the threat and everything will be back to normal. He could see the end of this but he was not dumb enough to think things couldn't go wrong.
"Everything should go back to calm now" Nate said, his voice low with happiness.
"don't jump into conclusion too fast. The bear can still escape you" Said Daemon wisely.
Nate nodded in agreement and kept quiet.
Daemon returned to his thoughts, his mind spinning with plans and strategies. They have the man. He had to see it for himself.

Daemon and Nate's footsteps echoed through the rock hallways of the catacombs. The atmosphere was heavy and tensed. Daemon could hear the murmurs of his people, the hiss and multiple discussions going on.
The two men walked in the room where the man was tied up to a table and bound securely by chains. His eyes reddened when he saw Daemon.
"let me go." he growled. "you and your despicable people have no right to keep me here"
"I am not here to hear you cry your obscenities" Daemon said calmly. "I want to know only one thing. Who sent you?"
The man's eyed darted around the room, and he frowned as if he was thinking hard.
"the best thing you can do for yourself is to speak" Nate stepped up over the man but Daemon held him back, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"leave me alone." the man said again.
"let me make him talk" Nate asked Daemon. Daemon raised a hand to stop Nate and approached the guy. Daemon found that something was weird with the man. He was sweating way too much for a vampire. Even newborn.
"he is a fledgling" Daemon said to Nate. "who sent you?" he returned his gaze to the sweating fledgling.
"I… I can't tell you" he replied as he sweated more. His breathing escalated, he was hyperventilating. Daemon frowned, sensing something was wrong.
"what's going on with him?" Nate asked.
"you are going to explode soon, so speak now. Who sent you?" Daemon ask with a bit more urgency in his voice. The man was getting more and more agitated.
"I… I … I don't know" he spoke with more difficulty. "b..but I have to.. tell you.. this… 'The past is never dead.'" after this words, he started convulsing much more. Daemon understood that it was time for the man to explode so he moved at lightning speed pulling Nate with him. They just left the room when they heard the sound of the man exploding.
When they looked back, there were hands still tied but the rest of the body was gone and the walls were smeared with blood and body parts.
"he was hypnotized by his creator to tell you this and auto destroy himself." Nate concluded.
"someone is sending me a message." Daemon said to himself "and I will find out who that person is, sooner or later"
"we will"
