Chapter 2 - The Fourth

Han closed his phone with a soft sigh of acceptance.

It had been almost a month since that incident, and so many things have changed. Heroes and villains that never existed, abnormal creatures, supernatural weapons, it was as if the world had become entirely different.

Of course, all of this was way too familiar for him. "Hero High" wasn't a novel he'd forget that easily. But the internet seemed to have forgotten about it. Why else were there no records of such a novel existing in the first place?

Han was not surprised. He had tried searching for it numerous times, only to have met with the same results.

There was still a possibility that the world didn't change; instead, he was the one who got transported here. Like those metafictional novels of sorts that personally, Han wasn't a fan of— Not that he liked Hero High.

It took a while for him to adjust properly to this new environment, but he had done it nonetheless.

Within this month, he's gained almost full control over his ability to the point where he'd progressed from being a Tier 1 to 2. Perhaps even 3, he'd only know it after a revaluation.

Cadets, on average, needed at least a year to progress a Tier. With some exceptions, like the protagonist just needing three months. But doing it within a month was simply surreal, especially for a character as insignificant as Han.

Maybe it's a perk from his transmigration.

Yawning, Han looked ahead at the professor who stood before the class podium. The first year special C class of the Hero High was massive, containing more than a hundred students.

109 to be exact. There was still a person missing— The main protagonist who'd arrive later as a wild card.

Han's seat was way in the back. Not by choice, but the seating arrangement based on academic ranking. This made it so that all the main cast would sit in the front.

Looks like only two of them are present here

At the very front row sat a girl with unique silver hair, listening attentively to the lecture.

She should be Ruby, the female lead. And the girl beside her should be Nesrine.

"As some of you may know. There are numerous departments within Hero High, like physical, psychological, elemental, special, and more. Those sitting here comes under the special department which possesses individuals with special and non-classified abilities."

The professor was a woman of around 30, wearing rectangular glasses with somewhat intimidating crimson eyes. She towered over six feet, with a figure perfect enough to mesmerise any man.

Ms Crimson, a Tier 5 and one of the strongest heroes.

Han scoffed.

They could've chosen something interesting as a lecture, considering today is the very first day.

As an 'avid reader' of the novel, he was naturally aware of all this, making him completely uninterested in the lecture.

After what felt like an eternity, the lecture finally came to an end as the bell rang, indicating lunch break.

Cadets packed up their belongings as they began walking out in a very disciplined manner.

Calm and silent.

Except for two disgusting laughs echoing throughout the class.

One sounded similar to a squeaky squirrel, while the other sounded like a coughing pig.

Coming from the last row.

Two scrawny guys were pouring water on the head of another male student as they laughed heartily.

Han barely looked at the three before completely ignoring them.

This was going to be an everyday event for the 'Bully High'.

After all, no rules were stopping this from happening. Especially since the son of the headmaster entertained this.

"You say you wanna take my position as the Fourth. How about this? If you can beat me in a fight, you can have the title. Mr Sixth."

One of the two scrawny men spoke.

Han's ears suddenly perked up.

In the novel, there were titles given to the lackeys of the bully gang. It basically showed how close a lackey was to the main bully gang , not in terms of strength.

Han was supposed to be the seventh, which meant that one who was being bullied was Noel the Sixth. And those bullying him were Basil the Fourth and Roy the Fifth.

Usually, titles of sorts couldn't be attained just by defeating them. Unless they give it on their own.

Han had no idea how he'd end up as the seventh, since it was not at all mentioned in the novel. After all, the main story only begins a few days after the opening ceremony, when the protagonist joins the Special C class with a wild card.

As much as Han hated the bully gang, he had to admit that it had its perks.

Such as always getting away from the troubles.

During certain events where the entire Hero High experiences major losses and casualties, the bully gang always seemed to come out unscathed.

Coming back to harass the main cast again and again.

There was only one explanation for this— bad writing.

The author wants the conflicts to never end, so he provides more than enough plot armour to the bully gang.

Even though Han wished to see a better end for the main cast, joining them was definitely not the best choice.

At this moment, almost all of the cadets have stopped in their tracks to witness the show, including the heroine and Nesrine. Unlike others, their faces still held a hint of calmness, as if watching some clowns at work.

Noel the Sixth rose and turned to the two with a fighting stance. His fists froze, turning into solid Ice with sharp knuckles. That was his ability; he could produce sharp, solid ice out of his body.

With a quick swing, he hurdled the sharp ice particles at Basil, who easily avoided the attack with a turn.

Although Han had already seen many similar fights on the news, it was the first time seeing one for real, especially one this close.

Basil didn't even use his ability; he simply gave the guy a kick to the leg and then to the face.

The fight was already over before it began.

Noel tumbled down while holding his face, which seemed to be bleeding.

Cadets couldn't help but look at him with pity, though some scoffed at him for challenging someone out of his league. And Han was no different.

Noel the Sixth was still a part of the bully gang who'd later harass the main cast. This much of a beating was honestly deserved.

With a smug grin, Basil the Fourth turned toward the crowd and shouted, "Does anyone else wish to claim my title?"

It wasn't a challenge so much as a provocation—after all, even if someone managed to defeat him, he could still refuse to yield the title, and no one would dare object.

Of course, no one took the bait. After all, those who coveted such titles were bullies themselves. To the average cadet, it was only a matter of time before people like them got what they deserved.

Only Han knew it would be the other way around.

Han weighed his choices carefully. Since he couldn't join the main cast, there were only two options left. One— He could wait and pray for himself to be recognised as the Seventh. Or he could try his luck here. What if he actually became the Fourth? Wouldn't that be safer?

Stepping ahead, Han showed Basil his ID card.

Basil's eyebrows contracted.

The guy who stepped up looked tall and sharp. Though his features didn't match his actions. At first glance, you'd think he's a wise adult who's calm and composed, almost like a monk.

But it didn't last long as people saw his ID.

Rank 12467?

And he dared to accept the challenge?

With a soft smile and ignoring the weird looks, Han spoke, "May I participate?"

Of course, He chose the latter choice.
