c98: Oh, It Turned Out to Be a Brother Control!
Just as Xiaoye was being scolded and told to apologize by Chen Xiaoxiao, Lei Jian quietly opened his Pokédex and sent a message via Penguin Messenger to Lei Tian his older cousin, the same Lei Tian that Chen Xiaoxiao had just mentioned by name.

Beep beep beep beep!
Inside a hotel room, Lei Yu lay sprawled out, absentmindedly flicking through Pokédex functions when the notification tone of Penguin Messenger chimed not from his own device, but from across the room.
Turning, he saw Lei Tian's Pokédex light up on the other bed.
Curious, Lei Yu leapt over, pouncing like a Linoone after prey, and snatched it before Lei Tian could react.
"Oi! What do you think you're doing, Lei Yu?!"
Lei Tian looked exasperated.
Lei Yu's grin widened like a mischievous Pikachu.
"What, got something to hide? Is it your mysterious girlfriend? You've finally found your 'sister-in-law' for me?"
Lei Tian rolled his eyes.
"Oh, please. Nothing like that. Look if you want."
Lei Yu didn't need a second invitation. He swiped open the Penguin app, and both boys leaned in to read the message from Lei Jian.
They immediately noticed the profile icon of Lei Jian's account bouncing, with the ID number "183" visible his signal that he was online and waiting.
Lei Yu poked his cousin's profile icon.
"Bro, do you know a blonde girl, maybe sixteen or seventeen? She just mentioned your name like you two knew each other."
Lei Yu's excitement visibly spiked.
"Heheh! So you have been holding out on us. Come on, spill it! When did you meet this mysterious blonde beauty?"
Lei Yu playfully grabbed Lei Tian by the collar.
"What are you even talking about? I've been with you this whole time—when would I have met anyone?"
Lei Tian sighed.
Lei Yu shot him a smug look.
"Yeah, except for all those times you sneak home alone and leave me out of your business. Who knows what you two brothers are up to, always running around like Dodrios in mating season."
He continued typing on the Pokédex:
"Is she pretty?"
Lei Jian responded instantly:
"Yeah, pretty."
Lei Yu, now completely invested, typed again:
"How pretty?"
Lei Jian hesitated for a moment, then sent:
"Pretty... um, very pretty."
Lei Yu's grin split his face. He looked like he'd just found a shiny Pokémon in tall grass.
"Alright, be honest. Is she prettier than me?" Lei Yu typed with exaggerated flair.
Next to him, Fu Tian nearly choked on his drink.
Lei Jian's reply popped up moments later:
"Prettier than you? Heh! N times prettier! Off the charts! Oh and she has a shiny Gardevoir too! Do you know her?"
As soon as those words came up, Lei Yu's face turned the color of a burned Charcoal. His hands trembled with rage as he held the Pokédex.
"THUNDER SWORD!! YOU'RE DEAD!"
Lei Yu shouted as his eyes nearly popped from their sockets.
"Pfft!!"
Lei Tian couldn't help bursting into laughter as he saw the words on screen.
But then he caught sight of one specific combination that made him freeze:
"Shiny Gardevoir + very pretty + blonde hair + 16–17 years old"
He mentally added it all up in one lightning-fast calculation worthy of a Pokémathlete:
Chen Xiaoxiao.
Then he recalled how Zhong De from the Zhong Clan's Steel Division was buried in a crater last week by the same Chen Xiaoxiao.
Hissssssss
A cold chill raced down Lei Tian's spine like an Ice Beam.
He lunged forward just as Lei Yu prepared to yeet the Pokédex across the room.
"STOP! Lei Yu, hold on!"
Lei Tian's shout froze Lei Yu in place.
Lei Tian rarely raised his voice. That alone was enough to make Lei Yu pause, blinking in confusion.
"Give me the Pokédex. Now!"
Though still fuming, Lei Yu's twin-sense kicked in. Seeing the rare serious expression on Lei Tian's face, he obediently handed over the device.
Lei Tian snatched it and scrolled back to confirm what he feared:
"Shiny Gardevoir. Chen Xiaoxiao."
The two brothers locked eyes. In unison, they said:
"It's her."
Truly worthy of being Dragon-Phoenix Twins.
"Call Lei Jian immediately. We need to know what's going on."
Lei Yu forgot his anger and nodded. Lei Tian closed Penguin and initiated a video call.
After a few rings, Lei Jian picked up.
"Yo, bro! Oh! Even little sister Lei Yu is here! What's the occasion?"
The cheerful tone didn't last.
A massive BOOM! echoed across the call. The screen shook violently.
Both Lei Tian and Lei Yu flinched as the sound blasted through the speakers, their ears ringing.
The camera feed glitched briefly, then returned just in time to show Lei Jian's face, stunned.
They could faintly make out a massive crater behind him, lit under moonlight.
Lei Tian and Lei Yu looked at each other, one word flashing between their minds:
Moonblast.
"LEI JIAN! What happened?! Don't move! Where is Chen Xiaoxiao?! Hand her the Pokédex now!"
Lei Tian was in full panic mode. Lei Jian was known to be reckless—and Chen Xiaoxiao's beauty could've baited him into flirting again.
But Lei Jian wasn't even hearing them. His gaze was fixed on the smoking pit in front of him, more than ten meters wide.
Xiaoye, meanwhile, had collapsed in fright, clutching her trembling Raichu in a fetal position, tears streaming down her face.
She had just witnessed a full-force Moonblast from a shiny Gardevoir—an attack capable of leveling entire arenas. Compared to the tiny dent Raichu made earlier, this was like watching a Hyper Beam next to a Tackle.
Chen Xiaoxiao stood over the battlefield, shaking her head.
"Tch. Greenhouse flower," she muttered. "Where was all that bravado from earlier?"
Even Gardevoir looked at Xiaoye with subtle pity.
Back on the call
"Lei Jian, what the heck happened?! Is Xiaoye crying? Did you provoke Chen Xiaoxiao?" Lei Yu asked, heart racing.
"Ah yeah, Xiaoye kinda... lost it after seeing that blast. She's sobbing."
"Why? What did you do?"
Lei Tian's voice was stern now.
"I—uh I didn't do anything! I swear! I think Xiaoye insulted her or something. By the way, who is this girl?!"
Lei Tian's headache worsened.
"You idiot! Haven't you heard about what happened to Zhong De from the Steel Division? I told you to stop flirting around recklessly! Which girl did you hand the Pokédex to?"
He turned to Lei Yu. "You've got the best rapport with Chen Xiaoxiao. You call her quickly."
When Lei Jian heard the name Zhong De, his blood ran cold.
Meanwhile, just as Chen Xiaoxiao was preparing to leave, her Pokédex buzzed.
"Hmm? That was fast."
She smiled as she took it out seeing Lei Yu's name on the screen.
"Hehe. Hey, little thundercloud, what's up? Miss me already?"
Her teasing tone lifted the tension.
"Hah! Gardevoir's Moonblast was epic! You didn't seriously injure anyone, right?"
Relieved by her voice, Lei Yu and Lei Tian finally relaxed.
Chen Xiaoxiao laughed.
"Lei Jian and Lei Ye? Don't worry. They're fine. Maybe emotionally scarred, though."
Lei Yu chuckled awkwardly.
"Well... I guess this confirms one thing."
He nudged Lei Tian with a smirk.
"Hehe. It really is brother control."
