Chapter 267: Enlightenment

Sword Sect

<+>

Lu Yuli covered her mouth with one hand, but couldn't hide the excitement on her face.

Her master just so happened to be occupied and couldn't meet with her—how could such a fortunate thing happen?

Now, it seemed like there was no need to worry about the things she feared most!

Looking at the message short sword in her hand, the young girl almost started humming a little tune.

She then felt a bit self-conscious, realizing she may have replied a bit too eagerly… but it didn't matter.

Her master wouldn't pay attention to such minor details anyway; only a certain annoying bully would probably notice.

"And since Master mentioned this as a stroke of fate, it must be something good, so there's no need for me to worry." The Sword Fairy's lips curved upward as she felt the air become a little fresher.

Since things were this way… should she perhaps send a message to a certain Demon Sect Holy Saint now?

Hmm… She wondered where that guy might be and what he was up to right now.

After finishing her conversation with her master through the short sword, Lu Yuli carefully tucked it away, but she found herself holding a letter in her hand.

The backside had faint remnants of five characters that had been blotted out with black ink.

Her cheeks turned slightly pink.

She genuinely thought her previous letter to the demoness had only briefly mentioned some things about herself and a certain someone… So why did she receive such a reply?

Could her desire to become the demoness sister-in-law really have come through that strongly?

The puzzled Sword Fairy quickly unfolded the letter but closed it just as swiftly.

The letter was filled with the demoness's keen observations… which led to one conclusion.

[You harbor those kinds of feelings for my senior brother, don't you, sneaky little kitten Yuli?]

Lu Yuli looked up at the sky.

It seemed… she would have a lot to deal with once she returned to the capital.

She shook her head firmly, determination flashing in her eyes.

She wouldn't lose to that demoness—whether it be the contest for the Human Immortal List or that other matter!

...

Inside the Sword Emperor's Secret Realm.

After several attempts and significant sacrifice of blood essence from Luo Wusheng, Ling Shuangxue was finally able to freely enter and exit the secret realm.

However, that was all she could achieve; adding any other permissions failed completely.

But Ling Shuangxue wasn't particularly concerned about this.

At the moment, her gaze held a hint of worry as she lightly placed her hand on the back of the pale young man next to her, transferring spiritual energy into his body.

"…You're too reckless. I told you to stop."

There was a trace of reproach in her voice, though Luo Wusheng beside her only grinned.

"Just a bit of blood essence; even if it's all drained, my recovery ability would bring it back in no time."

Thanks to the blood refining method he had developed by harvesting from a little fox, his recovery ability was excellent.

"And… if the fairy truly cares, maybe she could 'replenish me' a little?"

Before Ling Shuangxue could understand what her partner meant, she felt a large hand squeeze her buttock.

Her face flushed, "I-I'm already fully dressed…"

"No worries; I can undress quickly," the shameless Demon Sect Holy Saint teased.

If you give up on being thick-skinned, you'll earn a dual cultivation partner.

The result was a soft punch landing lightly on his back. In return, he heard a weak voice that was trying to sound calm.

"Fine… Besides, I'm only a step away from reaching the late Nascent Soul stage, only lacking a bit of spiritual energy to accumulate…"

Ling Shuangxue hadn't expected that she'd already reached the threshold of the late Nascent Soul stage so soon after advancing to the mid-stage.

To be honest, she even wondered if her partner possessed some sort of hidden, legendary dual cultivation physique. But she'd never say it out loud; if she did, her Dao Companion would only have more excuses to do dual cultivation.

'Though he will be heading to the capital soon; who knows when we'll see each other next… I suppose I could indulge him a bit before he leaves.'

She glanced at the Star-Moon Jade ring with a blood-red star on her finger, her gaze softening.

Just then, there was a splash by her ear. She turned to see that Luo Wusheng had already entered "battle mode" in the water. The Peak Master of Frosty Snow Peak raised a brow.

"Didn't we agree on just once?"

In the water, Luo Wusheng offered a sheepish smile.

"Shuangxue…"

"…" Ling Shuangxue simply glared at him.

Seeing his old tricks were no longer effective, Luo Wusheng thought for a moment, then shuffled over to the shore and tugged slightly on her sleeve.

"My dear wife…"

"!?" Ling Shuangxue's cheeks turned bright red.

'We're not even a mundane married couple, using that kind of term…'

Her eyes trembled as she met the gaze of the young man in the water below. After a long pause, she let out a soft sigh.

Fine… at worst, she could take charge and drag him back onto the shore herself afterward.

Resolved to endure the "long fight," she reached her bare foot out and dipped it into the water.

No one knew how long time had passed.

Now fully clothed, Luo Wusheng lay sprawled on the white brick floor, his eyes somewhat blank. He was utterly spent.

'Ah… so maybe that's what Long Dahai and the others on the Sea-Crossing Boat felt like that day…'

"How… how are you feeling?"

A woman's slightly nervous voice came from beside him.

Ling Shuangxue, now fully dressed as well, had a mysterious rosy glow on her cheeks as she gently clasped his hand between hers.

Luo Wusheng's lips trembled, but no sound came out.

How did it come to this?

His usually reserved Shuangxue would never be so demanding, and he wasn't prepared for an encounter like Long Dahai's group, either…

But it was, in fact, his own fault that things turned out this way.

Earlier, as the number of their sessions increased, the prodigious Holy Saint of the Demon Sect instinctively began trying to construct his own dual cultivation method.

Using a combination of his hard-won battle experience, extensive theoretical knowledge, and the dual cultivation techniques of the Demon Sect's Joyful Lotus Domain as a template, he managed to create a prototype of a unique technique.

As he had intended, this method was tailored to him, allowing him to incorporate both the Hemal Sanguine Technique he developed for Yao Ji and his ability to devour tribulations into the process.

This should theoretically hasten his devouring and refining of the golden blood within the headless Buddha's seal.

And his talent didn't disappoint; the results of his prototype were impressive.

Except for one minor issue.

Just a minor issue… like the challenge of running several demanding techniques simultaneously, which placed a slight strain on his body.

Then, something went wrong somewhere, causing the charm effect embedded in the dual cultivation technique to intensify… a bit.

And so, he was utterly drained.

Somehow, he found himself dragged from the water to the shore.

His clothes had even been put back on by his own blushing Dao Companion.

But at least, after such an exhaustive "war," he did reap some benefits.

For instance, his partner's spiritual energy surged.

And the headless Buddha's golden blood within the seal at his brow was refined quite significantly, yielding some unforeseen gains.

He had even unlocked an exceptional skill.

Buddhist Golden Body.
