Chapter 15 - Unspoken feelings

The souvenirs gave their final approval of the ad and suggested some readjustments, which were done immediately. Preparations for the launch began as the souvenirs wanted the ad and app to be launched in two days. Mirabel couldn't contain the joy she felt within herself. It was a dream start she had hoped for, but she couldn't believe it was happening so quickly. She even got matching t-shirts for her and her employees for the big day.

Her relationship with Vicky grew stronger as she now regarded him as a good friend, no longer just an employee. Mr. Weird, on the other hand, had a totally different opinion about Mirabel. He had started realizing that he had fallen in love with Mirabel, and his only fear was if she would feel the same for him.

It was Saturday, and Vicky was in his apartment, lying on his bed with a restless mind. His thoughts contradicted themselves, and he found it hard to restore balance in his mind, precisely his thinking. He kept questioning his heart if he was truly in love with Mirabel. "Am I in love or is this friendship?"

After about thirty minutes of thinking, he went to his mother's room. Caroline was sitting on her bed, reading a book. She noticed Vicky's entry and dropped the book on the bed. "Son, you look tensed. What's the matter?" Caroline inquired. Vicky approached his mom and laid down on her lap. "Mom, I'm confused," he said in a solemn tone.

"Dear, you can tell me anything. I'm here for you," Caroline said, stroking her son's hair. "Mom, there's this lady. I..." "What?! A female! Thank the heavens. So, what's she like? Is she fair, beautiful?" Vicky sat up and said, "Mom!!!" "I'm sorry, I got so happy on hearing that it's about a girl. I've been expecting that from you. It's been my wish to hear my son talking about a girl," Caroline said.

Vicky sighed and said, "Mom, please be serious." "Okay, dear, I'm listening," Caroline replied. "Well, ever since our first meeting, I felt attached to her. She's beautiful, and she has a really sweet and soothing voice. She's nice and elegant, her eyes are like the stars in the sky, her face is like heavenly lights... she's just amazing," Vicky said, pausing.

"Why did you stop? Go on, I'm listening," Caroline said in a very happy tone. "Mom, I don't know why, but whenever I see her, I get so excited, and it's a feeling I've never had for any girl, even the ones I've liked before. I just can't explain it, Mom. Do you think I'm in love?" Vicky asked.

"Vicky, it's love. You're deeply in love with her," Caroline said. "But Mom, she's not in the same range as me, and I don't think she'll even feel anything for me. In fact, she finds me strange," Vicky said. Caroline smiled and said, "Son, you haven't had this feeling ever since the last time, and maybe that experience has made you scared and uncertain. I don't think I've discussed this with you, but your dad had the same character. He was older than me, and I was very young, but that didn't stop us from going out. We became close friends, and our relationship grew stronger, but we thought it was just mere friendship and nothing else..."

Caroline continued, "You don't know if she likes you unless you take a step. Ever since I had that accident, I knew it would grow worse, and I've been praying that you'll encounter someone who will change your life. I want you to experience true love, Vicky. You have to let go of the past... I really want to see my grandchildren before I die." Vicky remained speechless for a minute and then said, "Thanks, Mom... you're the best. Please don't ever mention the words 'death.' As long as we're together, all will be well. Your leg will get better."

Caroline smiled and hugged her son. Vicky stood up, and as he was about to leave, Caroline held his hand and said, "I can't wait to meet her." Vicky took a deep breath and said, "You will, Mom."

Meanwhile, in Mirabel's apartment, she was in her room, her diary on her lap, and a happy smile on her face as she wrote:

"Dear Diary, I've never been this excited ever since that horrific night. It has truly been a new beginning. The preparations for the launch have begun, and everything is working according to plan. Vicky has truly been a game-changer. If not for him, I don't know what would have happened. Speaking of Vicky, he's awesome, cute, and very funny." Mirabel smiled and continued writing.

He's a great guy, and I'm really lucky to have him... just as a friend, because he's my employee and a really good friend.

Love... I don't think I'm ready for that, not now or in the near future. Men are awful, but Vicky is a bit different. He must have some flaws that I'm yet to figure out, not because I want to know to justify his purity so I can accept him as a lover, but because he's my friend and employee. But I can't quite figure out why I like having discussions with him. Is it because he's a friend or... Do I lo...? No, no, that's not possible. I don't.

Mirabel dropped her pen and said to herself, "Mirabel, focus. Calm down... I don't love him. He's a friend and will remain a friend." She continued writing.

"In all, I can't wait for Monday, the launch party. I honestly can't wait. I... " She stopped writing again, slapped herself softly, and erased what she wrote. She closed her diary and lay down on her bed. Only Mirabel knew what was truly on her mind. No one could discern if she was highly anticipating Monday's arrival because of the launch day or because she couldn't wait to set her eyes on Vicky. Was her new fondness for Vicky turning into love?
