Chapter 33 - Mimikyu’s Habits – The Unique ‘Disguise’ Ability

Miss didn't dare to look outside, and couldn't see the barrage of comments, so she could only ask:

"Is it okay? Is it under control?"

Lovy's voice was gentle.

In the meantime, the live stream's bullet comments were exploding:

[I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die! This is scaring me to death!]

[Streamer, are you sure this is a Pokémon? Don't lie through your teeth!]

[Its head's hanging off! My heart almost stopped!]

The camera in the live stream was currently pointed at the living room.

The lights were off, so it was dim. But positioned by a mirror, you could see a shadow resembling "Pikachu." Yet, its neck appeared broken, and the head was slumped to the side.

More disturbingly, it was crying while trying to prop its head back up with one hand.

And that "hand" looked nothing like a hand—just a ghostly, shadowy mass…

[WARNING! Current stream suspected of containing disturbing content! Please follow platform rules or risk being banned!]

Seeing this system message, Lovy sighed helplessly:

"Mod, please don't shut down my stream! This is a legitimate Pokémon identification session! Let me explain!"

[Haha! The streamer's messing around too much and got flagged!]

[Yeah, what if this scares kids or old folks?]

Seconds after the warning, Lovy noticed that the terrifying image in the stream was blurred out by the system.

[What kind of VIP is this? Getting real-time censorship edits?]

[You don't know the streamer's identity, do you? Agent from the Dream Protection Bureau, rich connections, son of a research genius...]

Looking at all the flattering comments, Lovy really wanted to say:

"Stop hyping me up like that! You're going to crash the plane with all the seagulls you're summoning with this blowing!"

But what actually came out was:

"That's not me, I'm not like that, stop making stuff up!"

Classic denial triple play.

"Streamer, are you really sure this is a Pokémon?"

The girl finally couldn't resist and peeked—her heart almost leapt out of her throat.

"Yes. This kind of Pokémon hasn't been officially announced yet. Or rather, people just don't know much about it. I just asked a research friend of mine, and he sent me some internal info."

[Classic! The researcher friend appears again!]

[Seriously, when did you ask? You think we're blind?]

"I typed it," Lovy added, not wanting to explain too much.

"This Pokémon doesn't have an official name yet. But I want to call it… Mimikyu."

"Mimikyu? Like a mini Pikachu?"

The girl and the viewers had the same question.

"No—'Mimi' as in 'mystery,' and 'kyu' as in Pikachu. Because it's surrounded by mystery and likes to mimic Pikachu, I think the name fits well."

Lovy said it calmly, without even blinking.

Of course, he didn't actually come up with the name—Mimikyu was already part of his Pokémon knowledge.

[Streamer, go deeper!]

[Mimikyu sounds kinda cool!]

"Actually, a lot of people have seen Mimikyu before but usually mistake it for a ghost in a cloth sheet, or think it's the ghost of a dead Pikachu."

[Ah, like the sheet ghosts in cartoons!]

[I think the earliest stories called it a burial shroud!]

[Pass it on—this streamer invented Mimikyu!]

"Mimikyu is a Ghost-type Pokémon, like Gastly. But unlike Gastly, which is clearly a gas Pokémon, Mimikyu's type is still under research. The current theory leans toward Fairy-type."

[Wait, what's Fairy-type?]

[I only know Clefairy is Fairy-type!]

[Don't forget Jigglypuff and Flabébé!]

"Fairy-type was introduced in recent years. Clefairy used to be Normal-type, actually. Just think of Fairy-types as mystical or spirit-like creatures. They're usually small, mysterious, and use magical or psychic skills like 'Disarming Voice'…"

Lovy was struggling to explain it clearly.

Because even in official Pokémon lore, the Fairy-type was a vague category with no unified explanation—more like a classification for convenience.

[Whatever you say, streamer, we believe you.]

[This is educational!]

"So… is this Pokémon dangerous? Why the sunglasses?"

The viewers calmed down a bit after Lovy's explanation.

After all, fear comes from the unknown. Now that they knew it was a Pokémon, it didn't seem as terrifying.

[Gastly can still kill you though!]

[So we're adding a new Ghost-type to the roster?]

[Yeah, why the sunglasses?]

That question was exactly what the viewers wanted to know.

Lovy took a tactical sip of water:

"Patience. To understand that, we have to start with Mimikyu's unique behavior…"

[That research friend of yours has a pretty loose mouth, huh? Just leaking secrets like that.]

[Come on, streamer, that 'Galar Travelogue' you mentioned last time doesn't even exist!]

[Quiet, everyone! I wanna hear more of the streamer's BS!]

"I'm not an expert, so if I say anything wrong, don't blame me."

"As I said earlier, Mimikyu's biggest trait is its love for imitating Pikachu. It usually uses a stick and a cloth, then paints a face onto the fabric to make itself look like Pikachu."

"If you look closely at the footage, Mimikyu's tail is fake—it's just wood."

[It's all censored, we can't see squat!]

[Mod, stop messing around. At this rate, your horse's gonna vanish!](This user has been banned for 365 days.)

Reading the comments, Lovy was drenched in sweat. The mod was still watching the stream!

Meanwhile, in the moderation office at the "Douyin" live streaming platform:

One mod shouted:

"Damn! Supervisor, come look at this stream! How do we handle this?"

The supervisor came over and frowned slightly after examining it.

"Isn't this just scripted content?"

"I don't think so. Look at that thing—it might really be a Pokémon. And this streamer just had a connection with the Dream Protection Bureau, even got a gift. He's probably got serious backing."

The mod lowered his voice.

"If this is a Pokémon stream, then it's allowed. Keep the blur on for safety. Also, give viewers a pop-up option—if they don't have heart conditions and agree to a waiver, they can view the original footage."

"Got it. Supervisor, this streamer has potential. Should we boost him with more traffic support?"

"That's not our department's job. If he keeps putting out quality content, he'll go viral on his own."

The supervisor left after that—too busy to care about a single rising streamer, no matter how promising.

If it were a beauty streamer dancing with Pokémon, he might have taken a closer look… ahem, purely for professional review.

[We can see now!]

[It's dark, but the streamer was right!]

Thanks to the mod's backend settings, the viewers could finally get a clear look at Mimikyu.

Lovy's eyes were locked on both Mimikyu and the stats panel in front of him:
