Chapter 38 - I’m Not Joking—This Omanyte Might Not Survive the Night!

[Good grief, the streamer isn't even trying to be subtle with that hint!]

@DreamSafe Bureau · Officer Tan:[If this involves illegal cross-border trade, that's an even more serious offense.]

[Haha, it's obvious the streamer's trying to get his fans arrested!]

[Damn, these days are full of plot twists!]

"Bro—Kabby bro—don't drag me down with you!"

NutriYarn looked like he was about to cry.

"Ahem, maybe that fisherman just has some foreign ancestry... but is actually a legal citizen of our country..."

Lovy had to admit—he was running out of excuses.

@DreamSafe Bureau · Officer Tan:[I almost believed you.]

"This doesn't even need verifying anymore. Streamer, Officer Tan—I'll turn myself in, okay? I'm just ignorant, but if I hand over this Omanyte, can I get a reduced sentence?"

NutriYarn finally broke down.

Lovy was helpless—he had a point.

@DreamSafe Bureau · Officer Tan:

[No need to hand it over. A new regulation on Omanyte just came out recently. It's no longer classified as an endangered Pokémon. So buying it isn't illegal. You just need to register it and sign a commitment that you won't abandon or abuse it.]

[Whoa, seriously?]

[So a 5,000 yuan investment just turned into 150,000?]

[That's a jackpot!]

Lovy was slightly stunned.

When did this new law get passed? Why hadn't he heard a thing?

A quick search proved it true. But the policy was buried deep, near the bottom of the search results...

"Officer Tan, you better not be kidding! Am I really in the clear?"

NutriYarn was still nervous, but the idea of turning 5k into 150k had him quietly overjoyed.

@DreamSafe Bureau · Officer Tan:

[Of course. I wouldn't joke about policy. But don't get your hopes up about making a fortune. Omanyte prices are crashing. And even though it's not endangered anymore, its trade is still tightly regulated!]

"How much can I sell it for, then?"

[Depends on quality—somewhere between 3,000 to 5,000. I'm actually waiting for the streamer's appraisal too.]

Other comments:

[Got it. Basically bought loneliness.]

[Hey, at least there was adrenaline and drama!]

[At least it's not jail!]

[Whoever sold it to him knew what they were doing—top dollar, no platform fee! Poor NutriYarn thought he got a deal, laughing all smug…]

"Sigh! Streamer, just do the appraisal. I'd rather know the damage than live in suspense!"

NutriYarn felt like the chat was flogging him repeatedly.

Compared to jail time, a loss of a few thousand yuan was tolerable.

"Ahem, alright, here's the rundown."

Looking at the Omanyte's info panel, Lovy began.

[Swirl Pokémon: Omanyte]

Level: 37

Type: Rock / Water

Gender: Male

Base Stats: C-grade (355)

IVs: B-grade (101)

Ability: Shell Armor

Nature: Relaxed

Moves: Constrict, Withdraw, Rollout, Sand Attack, Water Gun, Mud Shot, Brine, Ancient Power

Status: Severe internal injuries, exhausted, dehydrated

Evolution: Omanyte → Omastar

Traits: None

Looking at the panel, Lovy had a lot of thoughts.

A level 37 Omanyte—that's a pretty high-level Pokémon. Definitely wild and dangerous.

In this Pokémon-world, people can't see data panels, but levels still exist. They represent a Pokémon's overall growth.

Even professional instruments only provide rough estimates—no way to eyeball exact levels without extensive tests.

But a 37-level Omanyte with solid abilities and moves, caught just like that?

Then again, professional fishing teams often include licensed trainers, to handle situations where powerful wild Pokémon are caught and could pose a threat.

Still, this Omanyte didn't look visibly injured. It didn't seem like it had fought.

"Severe internal injuries… That explains it."

Lovy focused on the "Status" section and quickly found the problem.

[Severe internal injuries. Without immediate treatment, it may not survive the night.]

"Damn, that bad? There's nothing showing on the outside—so it is internal damage…"

Nobody knew what the Omanyte had been through, but Lovy trusted his identification skill more than an X-ray.

After one more scan, Lovy had a full understanding.

[Streamer's expression looks off. Is there something wrong with the Omanyte?]

[RIP. NutriYarn's whole wallet is about to die too.]

"Kabby bro, don't just go silent like that—you're scaring me!"

NutriYarn was sweating.

"Don't worry, it's a minor issue."

"What issue!?"

"Just… this Omanyte might not make it past tonight."

Lovy said calmly.

The internal injuries clearly weren't fresh. It had probably been in this state for a while.

"WHAT!?"

[LMAO! NutriYarn just got bankrupted live!]

[So if I sell it now, is it still legal? Asking for a friend.]

[The seller must've known.]

[It was fine… until the appraisal said it might die tonight!]

@Officer Tan:[Wait, what? Omanyte might not be endangered anymore, but if it dies due to negligence, that could still be punishable!]

NutriYarn was panicking: "Bro, you're not messing with me, right?"

Now he wasn't just worried about money—it was potential legal trouble too.

"I'll say it again. I'm not joking. Your Omanyte might not survive the night… if you don't act now."

Just when NutriYarn was about to break, Lovy's last words gave him hope—like a drowning man catching a lifeline.

"Kabby bro—you're my real brother! You know this stuff—please, tell me what to do! You have to have a solution!"

@Officer Tan:[A Pokémon's life isn't a joke—I'm worried too!]

Lovy didn't stall any longer.

"Take it to a Pokémon hospital immediately. There might still be time."

NutriYarn looked at the clock and nearly wept: "The nearest Pokémon hospital is like 10km away. This late, there's no way I can get a ride…"

[Try a Pokémon Center! They do emergency treatment!]

[Forget it. Medical bills are another mystery. Even if you save it, it might not be worth it financially.]

[Too much trouble this late. Maybe let fate decide…]

@Officer Tan:[Don't give up so easily. If you're truly stuck, call the DreamSafe Bureau. I can't dispatch help while livestreaming—it's against protocol.]

"There is a Pokémon Center about 3km away. I could run there, carrying it. But..."

NutriYarn hesitated.

"Streamer—you haven't told me: If I save it, will I break even?"

Lovy paused. He could understand the concern—but still had to say:

"A Pokémon's life is priceless. You can't just think about profit or loss. Besides, now that you know it's in danger, you have a duty to help. Officer Tan knows more than I do—don't you agree?"
