Chapter 21 - Another Side of the Story

t this moment, the live chat exploded.

[Hahaha, I finally get it now!]

[Damn! What kind of girl looks like that? Trying to trick us!]

[I'm speechless! If it weren't for the streamer, I'd still be in the dark!]

[Streamer 666!]

"Ah!"

Lipi looked at the chat and finally realized something was wrong. When he checked his own camera feed, he saw that once he got near the window, his reflection in the mirror had been seen clearly!

He'd been completely exposed!

In a panic, Lipi turned the camera away and anxiously questioned the streamer:

"You tricked me? Are you still going to keep your promise?"

[Wow, this kid—caught lying and still dares to ask?]

[Thick-skinned. Is he really that little brother?]

Lovy was stunned for a moment, then both annoyed and amused: "You've got the nerve to question me? What about your lies? You manipulated everyone's trust and sympathy! What if a real person comes asking for help and nobody believes them anymore? You're cutting off their last hope—do you realize that?!"

He scolded righteously and firmly.

The frustration and resentment of almost being played were all released in that moment. As a streamer, Lovy also stood up for his audience who had been misled.

People's empathy and kindness—how could they be used like this?

"I'm sorry! I'm really sorry! I didn't mean to! Streamer, I know I was wrong. Please, just give me another chance. At least… at least help me evaluate a few more Caterpies!"

"I'm not greedy anymore. I just want my sister to have a better Caterpie!"

[This kid is still lying!]

[Lie to the streamer all you want, but don't lie to yourself!]

"What sister?"

Lovy was already numb.

"Lipi, stop acting. Let me tell you, the Dream Protection Bureau officer, Mr. Tan, already has his team monitoring our call. You're now suspected of using a live stream to commit fraud. I'll have them come directly to your house! Don't even think about disconnecting—your IP address has already been locked! If you admit your mistake now and apologize to everyone, it might not be too late!"

[Oh right, the streamer just connected with Officer Tan!]

[I'm starting to think Lovy works for the Dream Bureau, but I have no proof.]

[This kid's face turned pale. Is that too harsh?]

[Damn con artist—this young and already shady. Needs a serious lesson!]

"Don't bully my brother! He's not a liar! He's not a bad person! Please don't arrest him!"

Just when everyone thought the situation was clear and justice was about to be served, a tearful girl burst into the live stream.

"Streamer, I'm begging you! We don't need the Caterpie evaluation anymore! Please, let my brother go!"

She looked terrified, crying as she pleaded to the camera.

Clearly, she was scared out of her wits.

Lovy was stunned.

The viewers were stunned.

Even the Dream Bureau staff monitoring the stream were stunned.

[Wait—he really has a sister?!]

[What is going on? My brain hurts trying to process this!]

[Did we become the bad guys now?]

What was happening now had gone far beyond Lovy's expectations.

He originally thought Lipi was just a little con artist, that the whole story about the sister, the Charmander, the Caterpie, was made up.

But to think… he really had a sister?

Could it be one of those cases where art imitates life?

Seeing the girl crying so hard while defending her brother, there seemed to be a lot of genuine emotion—maybe even… a hidden truth?

Could it be…

Lovy didn't dare jump to conclusions anymore.

If there was a real backstory, and he kept pushing without giving them a chance, he might become the villain.

But if they were acting—pulling off a drama within a drama—and he fell for it again… then the "pig-streamer" nickname would stick for life.

"Little girl, don't panic. Just tell me—what's really going on?"

Lovy decided to stay calm and test the waters.

[Streamer's even starting to doubt himself now!]

[It's hard to tell what's real and fake online…]

"As long as you can explain things clearly, the Dream Bureau officers watching this might decide not to come knocking. But remember—come clean, or face harsher consequences. No more lies!"

With Lovy's repeated reassurances and guidance, the girl finally calmed down enough to speak.

"Well… actually, here's the truth…"

[So there's another side to this story?]

[Now we're talking.]

The live viewers were ready with popcorn and snacks—eager for the drama.

"My brother told the truth—most of it. He likes livestreams. And for my sake, he came up with this idea. He didn't mean to trick you. He just wanted to find a slightly better Caterpie… for me."

[Wait, what even is this?]

[Is this even Chinese? Why can't I follow this?]

After all, the girl was still very young, just about to enter middle school—basically a primary school student.

Having been so frightened, her words were a little jumbled.

Lovy listened carefully and pieced the story together in his head.

"So what you're saying is… your parents do favor boys? The Charmander-Caterpie favoritism is real? Your brother really likes watching streams, so he tried to get help through a live connection?"

The girl nodded furiously like a pecking chick—that's exactly what she meant.

Now Lovy looked around at their surroundings.

This home clearly wasn't well-off. The boy's clothes looked new, but the girl's were clearly old, even ill-fitting.

Based on that alone, her words seemed consistent.

[Don't fall for it again, streamer!]

[I think she's telling the truth. No kid can act this well.]

[Nah, kids are too smart these days. They know everything.]

[I can't tell anymore! My brain's fried!]

At this point, the live chat was split into two camps.

[Lovy, we've locked the IP. If you're still unsure, we can send someone over to investigate. The truth will come out.]

The Dream Bureau staff sent a private message.

Lovy thought for a moment and replied:

[Hold off for now. The pressure of you showing up in person might be too much for these kids. If we can resolve it online, no need to trouble you.]

In the end, Lovy had a soft heart and strong empathy.

If the girl's story was true, and she was already this terrified online—imagine if uniformed officers showed up. They'd be traumatized.

And once their parents found out…

The boy might be fine, but the girl would likely get scolded—or even beaten!

"Alright. So you're asking me to pick a Caterpie? But you only have one here, right?"

Lovy probed further.

He wanted to check the details. Just like earlier, if it was all made up, careful observation would reveal the cracks.

[Sharp! The streamer is sharp!]

[Treasure-hunting Lovy = Detective Dee!]

"Oh right—you two shouldn't appear on camera anymore."

Lovy reminded them. It was to protect their privacy, especially since they were minors. The platform required it.

Even if the earlier appearance was an accident, someone might report it. And if that happened, his stream could get suspended—or worse, banned.

"Streamer, the other Caterpies are over here."

The boy regained control of the camera and moved it to another small room.

He opened the door—and inside were a bunch of Caterpies, squirming around, gnawing on leaves, some even spitting silk.

It looked like a rough little Caterpie breeding base.

Or better said—a tiny shed.

[Reporting this—it's giving me the creeps!]

[One Caterpie is cute. A room full of them? Gag!]

[This must be private breeding. The conditions look pretty poor.]
