Chapter 16 - Getting Arrested?

"As a certified expert, I can identify any Pokémon with just a glance!"

"Live Pokémon identification! Professional streamer! Ask me anything you don't understand!"

On screen was Lovy, looking energetic and confident.

"Yes... that's me..."

"Young man, you can mess around with food, but not with your words. You don't even have a certification—how can you claim to be a professional? At best, you're bragging; at worst, it could be considered false advertising!"

Lovy broke into a cold sweat at the accusation.

Usually, talking big like this wouldn't draw serious attention. But with someone reporting him...

...the investigation got serious.

[The streamer's been humbled.][Connecting with the Protection Bureau? That's definitely professional!]

"Officer Tan, that was just my stream banter..."

"Even so, you can't mislead your audience. But don't worry—I'm just here to give you a verbal warning and help promote some public education about online conduct and the law."

Lovy finally relaxed a little after hearing that.

If he got locked up, who would look after his little Snorlax?

"I'm listening, Officer Tan. You have my full attention."

Lovy showed humility and a willingness to follow the law.

"Right now, Pokémon identification online is loosely regulated. Even without a certificate, you can do it. But to protect the public from being misled and harmed, we're working with platforms to increase regulation of false claims and uncertified identifiers."

[Uh-oh, they're targeting the streamer directly.][He nearly named him outright!]

"So Officer Tan, what does this mean for someone like me, an amateur streamer?"

Lovy ignored the chaotic chat. This was about his livelihood.

"Well, your traffic will be restricted—that's guaranteed. Platforms may start separating certified from uncertified streamers with distinct labels. Of course, viewers prefer professionals. Also, no more false advertising. If you keep doing it after warnings, your stream will be shut down and your earnings might be reclaimed."

[The sky just fell on the streamer.][Good—this will clean up the industry.][Wait, he's that good without a certificate? Really?]

"I understand..."

Lovy felt the pressure mounting.

"It's not a bad thing. You're young and promising. Get certified before the new rules are in full effect. With platform support, I believe you can become a major streamer!"

Officer Tan encouraged him.

"I watched some of your past streams. Very entertaining. And if it wasn't scripted, you genuinely helped people. If you don't get certified, it'd be a real shame!"

Lovy nodded. "Thanks for your support, Officer Tan. Even if it's just for more traffic, I'll go get certified."

[Wow! Officially recognized?][The most powerful amateur ID expert!][I'm definitely following now!]

Seeing the chat, Officer Tan quickly clarified:

"Everyone, while I do represent the authorities today, my opinion of this streamer is personal. Still, I trust the public knows quality when they see it. Talented streamers won't go unnoticed!"

[He's distancing himself now.][Smart move. Gotta be careful in his position.][He doesn't want to be dragged down if the streamer messes up later.]

"By the way, since you're not selling products or charging for IDs, you're within the platform's current rules. Once you get certified, you'll be eligible to do both."

Officer Tan added.

Lovy nodded, even more determined to get certified.

He couldn't afford to lose traffic or income.

Officer Tan continued explaining the laws and regulations surrounding Pokémon livestreaming.

For example:– Streamers must promote positivity– Pokémon abuse is not allowed– No inappropriate remarks– No illegal Pokémon trades– If the stream involves scripted scenarios, it must be clearly labeled

"Alright, kid. That's all the official business. I watched your streams and found them really fun. So I'd like you to evaluate a Pokémon for me—just a personal request."

[This stream's turning into a public service ad!][No doubt, this is an official crackdown!]

As Officer Tan made his request, the stream's viewership surged again.

Many weren't here for Lovy—they came for Officer Tan!

"Three hundred, four hundred... could I hit five hundred today?"

Lovy's heart skipped. He knew he had to seize this moment.

This wasn't even peak streaming time, and he was approaching 500 viewers.

For a second-time streamer with no paid promotion—that was impressive.

"No problem, Officer Tan! Show me your Pokémon!"

"Welcome, new viewers! This is the Snorlax ID stream, hosted by... an amateur ID expert! If you enjoy it, please follow!"

[Haha, he almost said 'professional' out of habit!][Still breaking the rules, huh?][If you say you're a pro, I might not watch—but if you're proudly amateur, I'm all in!]

[A new streamer connecting with the Protection Bureau? He must have connections!]

Officer Tan then brought a Pokémon in front of the camera.

Everyone expected a standard Growlithe.

But it was a Ponyta!

"Polly, say hi to the streamer and the viewers."

He gently called to the Pokémon.

The Pokémon on camera was indeed a Ponyta.

But it looked very young—smaller than normal, pure white except for its hooves, and missing its trademark flame mane.

[This Ponyta's still a baby!][Barely born, huh?][Polly? That name though…]

Officer Tan smiled at the chat but said nothing.

He couldn't reveal much to Lovy.

There was a reason he brought this Ponyta—it wasn't ordinary.

Off-camera, other officers were barely holding back laughter.

One of them—a beautiful female officer—was the true owner of the Ponyta.

Unlike the others waiting to see Lovy fail, she genuinely hoped he could figure out what was wrong and help her Pokémon.

"Well, kid, can you see what's wrong?"

Officer Tan's smile held meaning.

He didn't mean harm, but he wanted to see if Lovy could really back up his streamed claims.

If Lovy failed, it might prove his streams were scripted. Then a second warning would follow.

Officer Tan didn't have proof, so he figured: test him himself.

If Lovy really had skills—and could identify the issue and even offer solutions—everyone would win.

"Officer Tan, could you bring the Ponyta closer so I can get a better look?"

Lovy examined it carefully, aware of what was at stake.

It wasn't just about passing a test.

Teaming up with the official channel was a double-edged sword.

If he handled it well, he could gain huge exposure and credibility.

But if he messed up—it could all come crashing down.

His hard-earned viewer trust might be destroyed by this one moment.

"Hmm?"

Lovy squinted at the Ponyta.

[Streamer, stop pretending—this time, the official account is watching!][He's totally thinking how to BS his way out of this!][I don't know about the streamer, but I trust Officer Tan. That guy's a smiling assassin!][I swear, the last streamer Officer Tan grilled got banned for three years!]

At that moment, a flood of new viewers joined—many unfamiliar with Lovy, some diehard fans of Officer Tan.

Officer Tan, a well-known ambassador for the local Pokémon Protection Bureau, was no stranger to livestreams.

Funny and charismatic, he could make jokes while setting traps—then deliver a lesson.

He had earned a reputation among netizens.
