Three years had passed. Surprisingly, Ye Xishui had actually expressed a desire to take him as her disciple. Yet Huo Yuhao wasn't surprised at all.
'This is the oppressive might that necromancy brings,' he thought calmly. 'Compared to the Death Sovereign Tang Si and the Necromancer Saint, even the Blue Silver Saintess, whom the Holy Spirit Church treasures so highly, is nothing. As for those so-called young geniuses among the evil soul masters of the Holy Spirit Sect? They're not even worth mentioning.'
"I would be honored," Tang Si replied with an icy tone, his voice devoid of human emotion.
Hearing that utterly cold voice, even Ye Xishui's heart shook slightly. Was this thing in front of her... really still a human being?
But even though Tang Si's words lacked any hint of respect or warmth, Ye Xishui wasn't angered. On the contrary, a faint smile curled her lips.
"Interesting little creature," she said. "Come with me. Let me see your true strength."
Ye Xishui rose sharply from her bone-dragon throne. She descended the grand staircase, each of her steps echoing through the vast hall. Something astonishing happened with each step she took—her body became more elegant, her figure more alluring. The deep wrinkles of old age faded away, replaced by youthful, radiant beauty. A chilling aura of death spread with every movement.
By the time Ye Xishui reached the floor, she had completely transformed. No longer the aged priestess, she now appeared as a stunningly seductive young woman—the very beauty who had once captivated the Twin Holy Dragons of Light and Darkness.
Without looking back, she strode towards the great doors.
Whether it was the terrifying deathly aura or her mesmerizing figure, none of it caused the slightest ripple in Tang Si's cold expression.
Golden and grey flames flickered faintly in his eyes, soulless and calm. Step by step, he followed her, completely unmoved.
Thus, Huo Yuhao's plan to infiltrate and steal the core authority of the Holy Spirit Church officially began.
Time flowed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, three years had passed.
Two years ago, believing the timing was ripe, the Sun Moon Empire's military launched a full-scale assault on the Star Luo Empire.
It had to be said—Star Luo truly lived up to its reputation as the strongest military power among the three great empires of the Douluo Continent. Facing the overwhelming might of the Sun Moon Empire, they managed to resist stubbornly for two whole years. It was almost unbelievable.
And yet... when you understood the truth, it made perfect sense.
There was a hidden secret behind it all. A "mysterious figure" within the Sun Moon Empire had issued a peculiar command: "Don't crush Star Luo too quickly. This war isn't meant to be fought seriously. Think of it like playing with insects—prolong the fun."
Who was this figure?
It was none other than Huo Yuhao himself.
During these two years, he commanded the First and Second Corps, clashing repeatedly against Star Luo's forces—especially Duke Dai Hao's Western Army.
He didn't intend to win quickly. No, Huo Yuhao wanted to toy with his "dear father," to make Dai Hao watch helplessly as his soldiers died by the thousands, only for the Sun Moon forces to feign defeat and retreat, giving the enemy false hope again and again.
Dai Hao had long since realized that something wasn't right. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't uncover the identity of the mysterious Sun Moon commander tormenting him. His intelligence network simply couldn't penetrate the layers of secrecy Huo Yuhao had established.
Two years passed. Eventually, even Emperor Xu Tiannan could no longer sit still.
Now, the Star Luo Empire was down to its last stronghold: the capital city, Star Luo City.
Or to put it another way—only Star Luo City remained of the original Douluo Three Nations.
The Heavenly Soul Empire had already been erased, absorbed completely by the Sun Moon Empire. The Dou Ling Empire's royal family had been effectively turned into puppets, expected to be fully assimilated within the next three centuries.
Once Star Luo City fell, the name "Douluo Continent" would vanish. The new "Sun Moon Continent" would rise in its place.
And something even more fascinating was happening among the common people.
When the Sun Moon Empire's armies first occupied cities in the former Heavenly Soul and Star Luo Empires, they met fierce glares and seething hatred from the locals.
But soon... things began to change.
When Mingde Hall's engineers laid down electrical grids, when civilian soul tools appeared everywhere to make life easier, the people's attitudes shifted.
When new factories opened, offering higher wages and better working conditions than anything they'd known before, many residents practically cheered the arrival of the "royal army."
The once-proud citizens, tasting the sweet fruits of modernization, quickly forgot their old loyalties.
Those who still clung to nationalist hatred, refusing to accept the Sun Moon rule, were mocked and labeled as "outdated relics"—targets of scorn and ridicule.
The Sun Moon Empire's cultural assimilation was swift. Basic education initiatives, all spearheaded by Mingde Hall, spread rapidly. Amazingly, while some citizens didn't even know the name of their emperor Xu Tiannan, every single person recognized one name:
Huo Yuhao. Chief Architect of Mingde Hall.
It was his technology, his soul tools, his infrastructure projects that had transformed daily life.
In truth, Huo Yuhao now wielded far greater influence over the common people than the emperor himself. Xu Tiannan, oblivious behind his palace walls, remained focused solely on military reports, unaware that the people's hearts had already been seized by someone else.
And that someone was none other than Huo Yuhao, who had quietly broken through to the Spirit Sage level.
To Huo Yuhao, it was obvious now—Xu Tiannan's reign was nearing its end.
Meanwhile, Tang Si—still acting as Huo Yuhao's undercover agent within the Holy Spirit Church—was far from idle.
Thanks to his status as Ye Xishui's "personal disciple" and his overwhelming strength, Tang Si had now risen to the same standing as the Church's Titled Douluo Elders.
The Holy Spirit Church itself, however, was becoming increasingly dissatisfied.
When the Sun Moon Empire launched its wars of conquest, the Church had hoped for widespread slaughter to fuel their sinister arts. But to their frustration, casualties were minimal. Few souls could be harvested. Their gains were pitiful.
And resentment simmered beneath the surface.
