17's newly inflated confidence collapsed instantly. He couldn't help but ask,
"Brother-in-law, are gods always this powerful? How many gods are there in the world anyway?"
"Of course not. There are many gods, but most are actually weak. Take the god on Earth — you could crush him with one hand right now."
"And the strong ones?"
"The strong ones are beyond what you can handle. If you meet a Destroyer God, you won't even be able to run."
"What about you, brother-in-law? Could you defeat a Destroyer God?"
"That I don't know. Maybe I could match one blow for blow?"
Kaito shrugged. His divine realm follows a different system than the Dragon Ball world's, so he really couldn't give a definite answer.
18 balled her tiny fists and swung them twice, saying,
"I believe you're the strongest!"
Kaito smiled. In the other two worlds he truly was undeniably the strongest, but since they were now in the Dragon Ball world, it was better to be a little low-key.
He turned and walked out of the lab; 17 and 18 followed behind him.
The lab sat on a small mountain. After Kaito stepped outside, he flew into the air and glanced down at the laboratory.
"This place isn't necessary anymore."
With that, golden light flashed in Kaito's eyes. Without any visible motion, the entire lab erupted in a violent explosion — the whole little mountain was wiped out.
Even after Kaito flattened the peak, 18 launched another energy blast down in frustration; she was venting her rage.
From her perspective, if not for Kaito, she and her brother would likely have already been turned into two mindless monsters by that perverted doctor.
She brushed the golden hair off her forehead and watched the charred ground below reflected in her eyes. From now on, she would no longer be the fragile Lazuli she used to be.
...
After returning to the city, Kaito moved into 18's house — an arrangement 18 had suggested; she didn't trust that the god Kaito would really be the school principal's great-nephew.
For a while, Kaito lived with 18 and the others.
One day two meteors streaked across the city sky. Kaito leaned on the school railing with a faint smile.
"They've finally come. I wonder how Goku and the others are preparing."
18 asked beside him,
"Kaito, what are you talking about? Who's coming?"
"Hmm… two aliens."
"Aliens? Are they strong?"
"Pretty weak. Compared to you now, they're weak."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a loud explosion rang out. Kaito's brow twitched as he watched a small mushroom cloud rise in the distance.
"Huh? Why did Vegeta and the others land here this time?"
18 sneered, saying,
"They make that much destruction right after arriving — looks like these two aliens aren't nice people. Kaito, should we go see?"
"Let's check it out. It'd be a headache if some bald guy wiped out this city."
Saying that, Kaito grabbed 18's hand and, with a flash, the two vanished from where they stood.
...
At Capsule Corporation, a huge crater had opened on the private lawn — and in the crater sat two white, spherical spaceships.
Bulma and her staff gathered around the pit; Yamcha was among them.
Bulma's face was serious. She hadn't expected the Saiyans to land so conveniently inside her company grounds.
Yamcha dropped his usual smirk and stood protectively in front of Bulma, saying in a low voice,
"Bulma, go alert Goku and the others. I'll hold them off!"
Bulma nodded and started to turn, but the two ships reacted below.
The hatch opened. A big bald man and a small-framed man with a receding hairline stepped out, wearing armor-like outfits and scouters over their faces — Nappa and Vegeta.
Nappa looked up at the people above and habitually activated his scouter.
Seeing the numbers on the display, Nappa sneered contemptuously.
"Pathetic. Other than that tall one, none of them have a combat power over 5."
Vegeta folded his arms and said lightly,
"Don't underestimate them. These Earthlings seem capable of hiding their power — maybe that one with over twenty thousand is among them."
A cold drop of sweat slid down Nappa's bald head when he heard that. He nodded and said,
"Ah — you're right! We should be cautious."
Vegeta glanced at him and mentally cursed him as useless, then said aloud,
"Still, you don't need to worry too much. I only see fear in their eyes; they're probably just ordinary Earthlings."
With that, Vegeta drifted down and landed in front of Bulma and the others. Though not particularly tall, his intense murderous aura forced the onlookers to instinctively take a step back.
Seeing this, Vegeta became even more certain that these people were weaklings.
He looked at Yamcha and thought,
"This guy has some ability. Maybe he's connected to Kakarot."
Nappa flew out of the pit and landed beside Vegeta, asking,
"Vegeta, what should we do now? Go find Kakarot first?"
Vegeta nodded and pointed at Yamcha, casually saying,
"Leave that one alive; kill the rest."
At those words, horror flashed across Bulma and the others' faces. Yamcha's nerves snapped tight; he stepped forward to stand between them and shouted,
"Bulma, go! Leave this to me!"
He clenched his fists and erupted with a white, jet-like aura — he was powering up.
The scouters on Vegeta and Nappa's faces registered a reaction; the numbers on their displays froze at 1000.
Yamcha had been a bit lax with training, but normally his power now should be at least a couple hundred higher.
"Oh?"
Vegeta grew interested. He turned to Nappa and said,
"So they can hide their power — this guy must know Kakarot."
A cruel smile spread across Nappa's face as he shook his head.
"Doesn't matter. A power level of 1000 — I might accidentally break him."
Vegeta leaned against a tree with his eyes closed.
"Then be careful. If you kill him by mistake, you know what the consequences will be…"
Nappa's swagger vanished in an instant; his whole body trembled.
"Y-Yes! I'll be careful!"
