.....
During our time wandering the snowy mountains of Austria, nothing out of the ordinary happened in Gotham. Criminals, as always, were trying to take over the city, and Batman continued to uphold the law.
Everything was in keeping with tradition. Only two pieces of news deserved any attention. The first was the completion of a building shaped like an inverted pyramid—the new home of Alritex Entertainment. The staff was rapidly expanding, becoming overcrowded, and the question of a speedy relocation was repeatedly raised. And although the building was already completed, no one was in a hurry to celebrate, as no one had had time to settle into their new workplace.
This was the second piece of news and the main reason for the staff's busy schedule. The day before construction was completed, a sequel to the beloved Angry Birds game was released. Now, on these cold December days, the whole world can enjoy Angry Birds Seasons, themed around various holidays and seasons.
What a perfect Christmas gift for all mobile game lovers! Also, in just five days, our company will release a new game, Fruit Ninja, which will put additional pressure on the employees. Because of this, the relocation will have to be postponed for a while. Perhaps not all at once, but I expect that everyone will gradually move to their new workstations by the end of the month.
Therefore, the migration process, although not involving the entire staff, will begin in the coming days. The transfer of people and equipment will be gradual, so as not to negatively impact the quality of work. Apart from these two events, one incident deserves mention, which occurred immediately after returning from the ski resort.
As far as I can tell, Ms. Romanoff was extremely annoyed by my absence. From the moment she witnessed my battle with the League of Shadows, Black Widow had clearly suspected that I might be aware of her double game. She still hadn't dared lift the veil of her secrecy. Instead, the former Red Room agent simply observed me from the sidelines, trying to discern my motives and actions. But apparently, her patience was running out.
I reached this conclusion based on the hidden video camera installed in my office. The last time I was there, this technological marvel wasn't there. But today, sitting at my desk, I felt myself being watched. Thanks to my phenomenal sixth sense, I was able to quickly locate the little spy.
It was attached to the back of a bookshelf, almost completely blending in. If not for the timely assistance of my super-sharp intuition, it's highly likely that I would never have even noticed such a tiny object.
The camera was the size of a spider, and not much different in shape. Four pairs of legs were embedded in a wooden board, and the device itself had a distinctive red hourglass-shaped mark. I'm not a fan of reality shows, and this wasn't Dom-2, so the presence of hidden cameras in the office didn't make me the least bit happy.
I urgently needed to get rid of this most unpleasant spider, but without anyone realizing that I had spotted it and realized it was a hidden camera.
I had to use all my acting skills... As if by accident, I knocked a dozen books off the shelf and noticed the vile arthropod behind them. Without thinking, I picked up the fallen tome from the floor and, shouting "black widow," mercilessly slammed it into the arachnid. I was good! I'm sure with my acting talent, no one will doubt the veracity of my actions.
I performed this action so naturally, and my reaction to the disgusting parasite was so natural that I should have received an Oscar. Therefore, I was completely confused when, after my stunning benefit performance, an alarmed spy burst into the office.
"Miss Rushman," I addressed the girl, who did not even deign to knock.
"Did you want something?"
"I..." she stopped mid-sentence, "simply heard a noise and hurried to find out if everything was alright."
"Your concern is commendable, but it is completely unnecessary. I simply noticed a spider in the closet and got rid of it as quickly as possible. It skillfully hid from everyone behind stacks of books. I would not have reacted so sharply, but by its shape and coloring, it most likely belonged to the genus of black widows - extremely dangerous to humans. There was no time to waste, who knows what to expect from this family of arachnids... And yet, it is rather strange that such a dangerous parasite wandered among us. We will, of course, leave this place soon, but it still wouldn't hurt to disinfect it, just in case…"
"True.." said Natasha, glancing at the flattened camera.
"Mr. Reath, are you free this evening?"
"Hm? Did something happen? Or do you just want to ask me out on a date?"
"If so, would you agree?"
"Certainly! How can one refuse such a beautiful woman like you?"
"In that case, I'll be waiting for you after work…"
What could all this mean? She couldn't have imagined that I discovered the camera and deliberately disabled it. My acting was impeccable! Okay, jokes aside. It looks like Miss Romanoff has decided to lay her cards on the table after all, and the catalyst for such a hasty decision was my stupid prank.
I hadn't expected anything else... I'd long wanted to talk to her not as the CFO, but as the deadly Black Widow. I was curious to know what she had to say as a representative of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'd find out tonight.
Everyone agrees that time passes more slowly when a person is waiting. After five excruciatingly long hours, work hours were over, and I, not wanting to wait any longer, hurried to the Russian spy.
"Miss Rushman, have I told you how charming you look today?" I complimented the girl.
"No, your attention was entirely focused on the flattened Black Widow."
"My apologies, I didn't think it would bother you so much..."
"Let's not talk about that. Let's think about how best to spend the evening. I'd like to stroll down the yew alley," Natalya said serenely, tucking her hair behind her ear with a familiar motion. "I still haven't had the chance to see how it's transformed for Christmas."
