Chapter 33 The Demon's Corpse
The last time the bloodriders were ordered to go out to explore the terrain and resources, they certainly couldn't hide during the day and travel at night. Although the weeping blood star in the sky dyed the sky red, it was impossible to see the distant scenery with the red light.
So, Ago and his team had a really hard time last time.
This time is different. The purpose is clear, and there is no need to explore whether there are human traces or large animals nearby.
The weeping blood star of blood and fire hangs above her head. Without the old, weak, women and children who are stuck in the LS, Dany is the first to take the lead. The little silver horse gallops happily on the red sand, and the horse's hooves bring up a thin line of red dust.
Jorah and her bloodriders are three horses behind Dany, followed closely by 20 Dothraki roaring warriors.
The rumbling sound of horse hooves spread far away in the earth, and the reddish-brown scaled sand lizards poked their heads out of the grass, as if feeling the vibration of the earth.
"Hiss—"
"Crack—Boom—"
Sharp and rough cries suddenly sounded overhead. The wildcat-sized sand lizard tried to retreat into the grass alertly, but... it was a string of dark red flames falling from the sky.
The black smoke mixed with the smell of sulfur instantly ignited the devil grass beside it.
The sand lizard squeaked and fled from the sea of fire. The next moment, the sky darkened and it flew into the air without any support. The stinging pain of the sharp teeth piercing its delicate abdomen had not yet driven away the panic in its heart. "Boom", a ball of flames swept over, and the sand lizard completely lost consciousness.
"Tap, tap, tap"
Continued to trample, and the devil grass ignited by the dragon's flames quickly sank into the shallow red sand, leaving only wisps of white smoke swaying in the wind.
Dany looked up at the young dragons fighting for blood in the sky, and a satisfied smile appeared on the corner of her mouth.
The centaurs had a very good sense of direction. They found the dragon bone at midnight with almost no detours.
If you think about it, it is true. People with poor sense of direction cannot become scouts for the Karls, because the Dothraki Great Grass Sea is even less recognizable than the Red Waste, and the scouts are scattered in all directions, and the farthest one is a day's ride away from the Karls.
"Seven Gods, is this really the skeleton of a living creature?!"
Even though she had heard many times that Balerion could swallow a wild bull in one gulp, Dany couldn't help but exclaim when she saw the keel as big as a destroyer.
The bones exposed outside the sand were grayish white, and the deeper they went into the ground, the darker the color of the bones. Originally, only a small part of the skull was exposed above the ground. Last time, Rakharo dug up the sand that buried the head in order to explore the size of the keel.
"If we dig up the sand completely, it will be too big a project and it will take a lot of time." Dany climbed to the top of the dragon's head, which was as high as a two-story building, and looked at the burial ground that accumulated into a curved hill, and began to hesitate.
Jorah frowned and looked at the huge skull, and said, "Princess, what are you going to do with this dragon bone corpse? It's probably unrealistic to transport it all back."
"This," Dany smiled bitterly, "To be honest, I really planned to transport it back. Not to mention how much gold coins the dragon bones can be exchanged for, just making it into a weapon. You have also seen the power of the dragon bone bow, a must-have weapon for warriors!"
"The horsemen don't have the technology to forge dragon bone weapons. Only the top Qohor blacksmiths can shape dragon bones into weapons." Jorah shook his head.
"What do you think we should do? Just leave it here and don't care?" she asked.
Jorah touched his chin and suggested, "Choose some dragon bones that are easy to carry and bury the rest on the spot. In the future, come back to get them as needed."
"The skull is too big to handle. Take the bones from the wings."
Dany gave an order, and the horsemen began to work enthusiastically. They dug along the dragon's neck and towards the waist and abdomen. They didn't need to dig too deep, just enough to search for broken bones as much as possible.
The bone that Lakalo brought back was a broken bone. It seemed that the dragon was really as Dany guessed, too injured to fly, and fell from the sky to the ground halfway.
"Hey, this is... This bone is so thin, it's not right." A centaur stopped digging, picked up a 40cm long bone stick from the sand, and looked back and forth in confusion.
Following the route of "head-neck-back-wings", the centaur dug a winding gully.
The sand was soft, much easier than expected, and the gully was two or three meters deep.
When the sky turned deep indigo, they had dug to the middle of the neck.
"Khaleesi, something's wrong, it's not a dragon bone, I dug a human corpse." The centaur shouted loudly, and the faint tremor made people feel his fear, "This is not a human, it's a devil, the corpse of a devil, people shouldn't look like this." "
Devil, the corpse of a devil!" Other centaurs who were working came over to take a look and screamed in fear.
As the big boss, Dany certainly didn't have to work. She had been training little dragons.
Hearing the noise coming from the pit, she hurried over, looked at the centaurs in the pit, and shouted, "There are no demons. Demons dare not approach dragons, even if they are long dead dragon corpses! That must be a human."
At first, she was still shouting with full energy, but as the crowd made way for her and she saw the twisted bones half buried in the brown sand, she was also terrified and stuck.
The corpse was really too scary. It was a corpse curled up like a fetus in the mother's body, not a pure skeleton.
Its skin was like purple-black demon scales, tightly wrapped around the bones. You can see the thumb-sized, rough "scales" like old bark, densely packed, covering the whole body.
The arm curled up in front of the chest, is it really an arm, not the claws of some creature?
Ten dagger-like fingers pointed to the sky, as if ready to attack and devour someone.
The body was as skinny as a skinny child, but its sharp claws were 20cm long, totally disproportionate.
What was even more terrifying was that the eyeballs in the eye sockets of the body had not decayed or weathered, well, they had not been decomposed by bacteria.
There was black asphalt-like mucus around the dark purple eyeballs, staring at everyone "viciously" like a living person, and the mouth that was almost 180 degrees split seemed to be roaring the devil's curse.
"Fuck." After cursing in Earth language, Dany immediately followed the local customs and said, "Seven layers of hell, Ser Jorah, you are well-informed, do you know what kind of people this is?"
She did not forget that this was a fantasy world, where there were even children of the forest and giants, and it was not uncommon for goblins and gnolls to appear.
"He should be a human." Jorah was also digging in the pit. Hearing this, he walked to the first centaur who discovered the body and took the pale bone stick from him.
"Princess, look." He raised the bone and shook it towards Dany, then used the bone to gesture at the left leg of the "demon" corpse a few times. "The corpse is missing a calf, which is the one in my hand. According to your previous guess about the origin of the dragon, a dragon escaped from Valyria during the Cataclysm.
So, is it possible that it was ridden away by a knight?
The dragon was seriously injured and fell from mid-air, and the knight broke his leg, so the calf bone was separated from the corpse."
Aggo refuted: "Look at how long the shin bone is. It doesn't match the skinny corpse at all. If the corpse is really a human, he is also a dwarf."
The shin bone without the sole of the foot is more than 40cm, which means that its owner must have been a tall and strong man.
The curled up corpse is probably no more than 1.2 meters tall.
"It is said that the ruins of ancient Valyria from the Land of Long Summer to the Sea of Smoke are still shrouded in curses." Ser Jorah stood up and looked at Dany with serious eyes and said: "From Volantis to the Slave Bay, there is clearly a Valyrian Road left over from the Freehold period, but they would rather take a boat to bypass the Valyrian ruins and walk several times more distance. The road to Matarys is called the Demon Road."
"Wasn't Valyria destroyed by a volcanic eruption? How is it related to the curse?" Dany asked puzzled.
"I don't know," Jorah guessed with a frown, "maybe it's the wronged spirit of the dragon king of ancient Valyria? As we all know, Valyria is a civilization that masters dragons and blood magic."
"Haha, you just said that this 'dragon king' died horribly because of a curse." Dany pointed to the "demon" corpse in the pit and said with a smile: "Aren't you contradicting yourself?"
"If it's not a curse, why didn't Valyria escape alone without a single dragon? Dragons can fly, and the underground fire and magma are terrible, but they can't burn dragons, so how can they kill all dragons?" Jorah asked repeatedly.
"Maybe he was cursed and rode a dragon to Qarth to seek help from the wizard." Aggo interrupted.
The horse folk were scared to death at first, but now they saw that Khaleesi and Jorah quarreled for a long time in front of the "demon", and the demon didn't attack.
Gradually, their courage returned.
"The wizards of Qarth are indeed famous," Jorah said sarcastically, "but the reason they are famous is that they often use false magic to deceive the world. Even Westeros has those blue-lipped liars."
"Then," Aggo thought for a moment and pointed to the east, "He may ride his dragon to the Shadow Land on the other side of the Jade Sea, where there are wizards and shadow binders everywhere. The witch who was burned to death by Khaleesi learned the method of communicating with the devil there."
"Why do you think he is going to ask for help? Where else can the magic skills be more powerful than Valyria?" Jorah sneered.
"Whether he intends to go to Asshai to find a wizard, or he was stunned by the underground fire and flew here randomly, it has nothing to do with us." Dany pointed at the demon-like corpse and ordered: "Don't touch it directly, find tree trunks and weeds nearby, and burn it on the spot. The Valyrians believe in cremation, and I am not insulting this senior dragon king."
The horse people immediately stopped digging, climbed up the pit, and went around to collect firewood.
Around nine o'clock in the morning, Dany's three dragons breathed fire together, lighting the firewood in the pit. Then dozens of people leaned against the giant's bones to avoid the sun and continued to work in the evening.
Well, Dany lived the most comfortably. She made her home in the dragon's mouth. The thick head completely blocked the sunlight. Lying on the cleaned jawbone, it was cool, comfortable, and particularly interesting.
