[Scene: Meanwhile, the scene cuts to Ella, walking down the road while talking on the phone.]

Ella (softly):

Hey... how are you?

Eaden(her younger brother):

You do know what you did, right?

Ella (defensive):

Don't start with that. How are Mom and Dad? They don't know yet
 right?

Eaden (serious):

Do you ever tell them anything? No. They have no idea that the girl all over the news is their daughter.

Ella (snapping):

Don't forget—I'm your older sister. Don't you dare talk to me like that.

Eaden (calm but cutting):

You might be older by age, but the way you act? You're more like a five-year-old. So mentally, I'm older.

Ella (sighs):

Look, I didn't call to argue. I just wanted to know if everyone's okay
and to let you know I'm safe.

Eaden:

Yeah, we're fine. But you need to fix what you messed up.

Also, Mom was missing you and was asking when you're visiting.

Ella:

I don't know yet, but I'll try to come soon.

I don't like being away from you all either.

Eaden (teasing):

Don't act all sweet now. If Mom or Dad overheard this, they'd think I'm dating someone.

Ella (suspicious):

Wait
 is the phone on speaker?

Eaden:

No, but you know how good their hearing is.

Remember how Mom figured out I was sneaking out at night?

She heard it through my phone! I was shocked.

Ella (smirking):

Oh really? Then... Honey, how are youuu? 💕 (in an overly sweet, loud voice)

Eaden (groaning):

Are you trying to get me killed?

Ella:

Baby, I miss you so much! 😘

Eaden:

Stop it, you—!

[Call ends. Ella laughs.]

Ella (chuckling):

That brat hung up on me.

(sighs) Well, perfect timing—I'm here.

[She looks up. She's standing in front of the café where she used to work.]

Ella walks in. A young boy is working behind the counter, typing on the computer.

ELLA

(to herself, annoyed)

They really hired someone else for my shift?

BOY

(politely)

How can I help you, ma'am?

ELLA

I'm not here to shop. I'm here to see the manager. Is she in?

BOY

The manager? Yeah, she's upstairs. Do you... know her?

ELLA

Yeah. Maybe too well to just "visit." (smiles)

BOY

Uh... but she said— (nervously)

ELLA

(cuts him off)

Let me guess. She said no one's allowed to visit her and not to let anyone up, right?

BOY

(surprised)

Yeah... how'd you know?

ELLA

I told you, I know her too well. (glances at the stairs)

Here—hold my phone. That way, of course I'll come back to pick it up.

BOY

No, no, it's fine. You can go—

ELLA

(insisting, hands him her phone)

Keep it. Trust me, it's for your safety. You're really new, huh?

She gives him a light smile and walks toward the stairs.
