Lola got to work late due to the hold-up on the way to work. Leon, who was driving her, kept complaining on her behalf as if it was he who would be late for work. "Goddammit, can't this car just move? Don't they know people will be going to work? " He would say, and somehow, it made Lola happy. Maybe it's because she has no real friends, as since her mother died, no one has really Care about how she was doing; it has been her and just Mira. But now, since Leon came into her life, things have changed; she got home to meet for dinner, and as someone, she could trust with her daughter, but most importantly, she was starting to feel something she wasn't sure she could feel for a man again. She wasn't sure if it was due to the gratitude that she felt towards him, or if she might really have started liking him in a manner different from her friend.
"Finally," Leon said as he pulled up the car at the company's entrance.
"Yeah, Finally," Lola said with a sigh. "Thank you for the ride, Leon," She added, thanking him.
"It's my job," he said, dismissing the appreciation.
"No, it's not; you were just to be a nanny for my daughter, remember? " Lola said, and Leon could only smile while he watched Lola get out of the car.
Leon never gets out of the car anytime he drops Lola off at work; many people might not recognize him due to him not appearing in the media, but how can his workers and staff not recognize him? Fortunately for him, the car is tinted.
Lola walked to her office with a smile plastered on her face without even realizing it, but the smile soon disappeared from her due to what she was met with at the company's top floor.
"Good morning, Miss Lola," Greeted Rhea with a forced smile.
The forced smile, the bead of sweat, and the biting of lips, Lola noticed all this in Rhea and knew that something was wrong, so unknowingly, the smile disappeared, replaced by a frown.
"What is it?" She asked
"It's Mr. Tade Toby," she said. Lola's frown deepened and she could feel the anger boiling within her.
"I told you I do-" she started but Rhea cut in.
"I know what you said, but who am I to chase the patriarch of Toby's family out of the office, what if I lose my job tomorrow and as no one to back me up, imagine what they will do to me, and I can tell you for sure this prestigious family does not forgive," Rhea explained herself, and Lola was finally able to calm her boiling anger. Rhea was right. Even the low-class families among the prestigious families do not forgive so easily, not talk of the middle class, where Toby's family belongs, and the Top families are the worst; they shouldn't be cross; even the middle-class families dare not cross them.
"Where is he?" Lola asked
"Waiting outside your office " she replied.
Lola does not want Rhea, who has been nothing but kind towards her since she started this job, to suffer the wrath of the prestigious family because of her, so she tames her anger and decides to see her stepfather.
Tade Toby sat in front of Lola's office waiting for her. That girl had said she should be here by 8 am, but it was almost 9, and she was not there. Maybe she isn't coming to work today, he thought; just when he started to wake up and think of leaving, he heard the approaching sound of the heels hitting the marble floor, and when he turned to see there, he saw his beautiful stepdaughter as dashing as ever walking towards him.
She stopped right in front of him, he was already on his feet. She folded her arms crossed. "What do you want?" She asked in a calm and collected voice.
But despite how calm her voice was, Tade knew she was angry, really, really angry, and he couldn't blame her. Who wouldn't be? Though he had done nothing to her physically, he had done nothing when his wife and daughter bullied and tormented her despite knowing the poor girl just lost her mother, he didn't care because she was not his real child. He Is ashamed of himself.
