[Elara's POV]
"What about we celebrate every day? How about that?" she had always suggested, the type to make every mood light. She helped me during my recovery as well, even though we were strangers.
The time we spent together was short, but it was fun. We shared so many moments together, so knowing she might be gone only seemed to twist something in me, almost causing me to crumble to the ground.
My vision grew blurry from the little tears that wanted to fall. I should have never believed it when they said she left town. Her leaving all of a sudden back then—I should have questioned why. She gave no goodbyes before leaving; it wasn't like her.
It only seemed like I had failed her, and so I didn't even deserve to shed a single tear, even though they wanted to pour out so much. I needed answers. I had to find out what went on here, what they did to everybody they took.
