Aidan was just about to call Anna when he saw her emerging from the company building, Fred trailing protectively behind her.
He lowered his phone and stepped out to open the car door for her.
He had left earlier in a hurry after announcing that Fred was her bodyguard and he had ensured she was back in her office.
She had stared at him with surprise but he avoided her gaze and left, after warning Fred not to leave her side.
As she approached the car, her expression was unreadable. She didn't look angry, but something in her silence made him uneasy. He plastered on his usual grin in an attempt to lighten the mood. "How was your day, wifey?"
She slouched into the car seat without a reply and he got the message.
She was mad.
There was barely anyone around, except for the security guards, and there was no reason to keep up the act of being a perfectly normal couple. Aidan shut her door and turned to Fred.
"See you tomorrow," he waved at him dismissively.
