The morning after felt different.
Not the kind of different that made you question everything. No.
The kind that settled deep in your bones like something familiar finally returning.
Like air in your lungs after holding your breath far too long.
I woke up in Ethan's bed again. Only this time, I didn't flinch when I reached across the mattress and found it empty.
His side was warm. He'd been there just moments ago.
The scent of coffee drifted through the hallway.
I wrapped the comforter around me and padded softly to the kitchen, finding him barefoot, shirt rumpled, and hair an adorable mess as he stood by the stove attempting
scrambled eggs with the same intensity he brought to boardroom takeovers.
"You're determined to poison me this week, aren't you?" I teased.
He turned, spatula mid-air, and grinned. "Absolutely. It's part of my plan to make you so sick you're stuck in bed, and I get to keep you close."
