Chapter 20 - Happy Workers

To better understand Julius's plans, one must really break everything down.

Seventeen people stood before Julius: 5 Managers, 1 Head Chef, 6 sub-chefs-in-training, and 5 Password keepers.

Behind Julius, were Rosh and Zeenie.

Its been Seven days since Lily Rain's reopening. Don't forget the matter of the special tokens that have already been distributed. These Tokens were given to the local Lily Rain customers when Julius visited several days back.

Those loyal customers, although very few, still ate in Lily Rain despite the trouble the restaurant was facing. The Tokens had their names by Julius himself.

40% off every purchase for the next two years, and few chances for them to bring their families over for a family meal.

Every loyal customer was to whisper two passwords to verify the token belonged to them. Additionally, striking features were taken down, including what color their eyes were. If they lose their tokens, they are to report the matter immediately.

Don't think you can use what belongs to them easily.

Every year, they must come back to change both secret passwords. The password keepers standing before Julius will be the ones to confirm the authenticity of those who present the special token.

Understanding how the city worked, Julius called them for an important but brief meeting. Tapping his fingers on the wooden taken, he slowly lifted his gaze to meet theirs

"Starting from next week, your usual shifts will change." He began. "I am all for work, but I do not believe a happy man tires himself like a horse."

Everyone frowned. Change of shifts?

Isn't the way they work the same way everyone else in Etratis works?

No matter how they racked their brains, they couldn't understand what this new shift change would look like, but Julius wasn't in a rush.

"Zeenie… Rosh…"

"Yes, young master," The duo replied, quickly distributing the documents in hand.

"Take a look at them," Julius spoke, giving them a moment to look over.

For Managers, the restaurant will operate under two main shifts:

—6 AM to 4 PM (10 hours)

—3:30 PM to 1 A.M (9.5 hours)

The Lily Rain opens at 7:30 am, but they must arrive at 6 Am to start preparing for opening. Managers in the 6 AM shift times will close by 4 PM. and those in the Afternoon times will begin at 3:30 and close at 1 AM.

Mind you, 1:30 AM is just the time when the managers and staff must leave.

The official closing time for Lily Rain is 12:30 AM. This means that after guests leave at 12:30 AM, they have an extra 30 minutes to do last-minute cleanups and round-ups too.

One must never forget that the Curfew time in Etratis was 2 AM on the dot. This means that one must be at one or indoors in some establishment before 2 AM.

If you like, you sleep in a tavern, in a hole, or anywhere else for that matter. All the law stipulates, is that no one, except for patrolling guards, must be caught on the streets at that time.

If found on the streets after that, they will be locked, fined, and possibly assumed to be assassins, thieves or killers. After all, only those with vindictive thoughts usually move at night in the shadows during those hours.

Julius' plan was thorough.

Guests will leave by 12:30 gave them 30 minutes to round up, which doesn't mean they must do all the cleaning in one night.

No—They just had to do certain things on the checklist and leave the rest for the morning shift manager to ensure it gets done before opening time. And by 1 AM, they must close up and leave, ensuring they make it home before 2 Am.

Only people Living somewhat close to Lily Rain are permitted to be Managers. If you live more than an hour away on foot, then sorry… such a position wasn't fit for you.

That was that for the Night Managers. The Morning shift managers will arrive an hour and 30 minutes before opening time. Its during this time that general clean-up and preparations will be done too.

Another thing to note was that during the morning/day shift, there will always be Two Managers on site.

That said, Julius had a total of Five Managers now. These five will work in rotation and will each have THREE and a half days off a week to make up for their late stay.

.

What?

All five Managers looked at each other in shock, thinking that this new shift change was generous.

Three days and half of a shift off! … Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Looking at the documents handed to them, they felt a colossal explosion go off in their minds

They now had their two-week schedules in their hands. They had never seen such scheduling methods before, but it made understanding easier when everyone was put on tables.

Amazing! The young master is great!… Just how did he think of this novel idea?

All Five Managers felt this should be the norm starting from today.

What's more, some were even happier when they saw that their Three days and half a shift off were back to back.

Great!

Wasn't this Seven days in a row off? Wasn't a week in a nutshell?

Just seeing their schedules made some start planning on what they would do during that time. They have never, ever had so much free time on their hands.

To put simply, unless one is sick, in true need of time for personal matters, or the Royals proclaim the day a celebratory one, they are coming in for work every single day.

People here can work for a month every single day without taking a break unless something comes up and they ask permission to leave.

What was this?

Three days off?

So much free time?

What are they supposed to do with it all?

Suddenly, it was not so clear. They felt a little helpless and lost.

But… But… wouldn't it be great to spend more time doing things they have always been interested in?
