After leaving the shopping plaza, Lin Hao decided to grab something to eat before heading back home.
Unexpectedly, just as he was walking toward a nearby café, he heard someone call out behind him.
"Lin Hao!"
He stopped and turned around.
To his surprise, the familiar voice belonged to none other than Anna, his ex-girlfriend.
Seeing her again, Lin Hao's expression turned indifferent. "What do you want?"
"Oh, it's nothing," Anna said with an overly sweet smile. "I just saw you and thought I'd say hi."
Lin Hao frowned slightly. "If you don't have anything else, I'll leave first."
He glanced at her once — and though she was still beautiful, his heart felt nothing but disgust. Once, this face had meant everything to him. Now, he could only remember how this same woman betrayed him for a man twice her age.
Just the thought of that bald, middle-aged man pressing himself against her made Lin Hao feel sick.
"Don't leave yet," Anna said quickly, her smile tightening. "Have you found a job? If not, I can ask my boyfriend to arrange something for you."
Lin Hao raised an eyebrow, already sensing where this was going.
"I asked him to get you an easy position. After all," she said proudly, flipping her hair, "we did have a relationship before."
Lin Hao was speechless.
He stared at her — wondering how she could say something so ridiculous so confidently.
Call someone old enough to be your father your "boyfriend"?
And still have the face to boast about it?
He suddenly felt that the woman standing before him was no longer the Anna he used to know.
"No need," Lin Hao replied calmly. "I've already found a job. You don't have to worry about me. Instead of chatting with me, you should spend more time with your boyfriend."
Just as he said that, a loud voice interrupted them.
"Baby, what are you doing here?"
A fat, bald man in his forties jogged toward them, his huge beer belly shaking with every step.
Lin Hao looked at the man — and almost laughed out loud. With Anna's slim figure, this guy could crush her by accident.
"Oh, I was just chatting with my ex-boyfriend," Anna said sweetly, wrapping herself around the man's arm like a little bird.
"Ex-boyfriend? The one you dumped?" The fat man's tone turned mocking as he sized Lin Hao up from head to toe.
"Tsk, he's good for nothing except that face," the man sneered.
"Yes, yes," Anna quickly agreed, pretending to look embarrassed. "I was young and ignorant back then. He kept pursuing me shamelessly, so I reluctantly agreed."
"But you know me, honey. We were innocent. There was nothing between us," she added hurriedly.
"Of course I know," the fat man chuckled. "I could tell the first night we met."
"Ugh, hate you—you're so bad!" Anna playfully smacked his arm, pretending to be shy.
"Hahaha, women don't love good men anyway," the fat man grinned, his eyes filled with arrogance. "Baby, what are you even talking to him for?"
"I wasn't saying anything," Anna said softly, putting on her best pitiful expression. "I just felt sorry for him and thought maybe you could help him — let him work in your company. After all, he was my first love."
The fat man let out a fake sigh and looked at Lin Hao again. "Alright, since you asked, come to my company."
Then he smirked. "You've got a decent face. You can work as a security guard. I'll give you 5,000 yuan a month. How about it?"
Lin Hao, who had been patient up until now, finally couldn't hold back his laughter.
Then he said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes,
"You? You're a player with a thick tank but no height. A walking beer barrel with legs. Even a mosquito would sprain its ankle standing on your bald head. You two are just like rotten fish and a rotten shrimp—" he smirked, "—a perfect match."
Both Anna and the fat man froze in shock.
Lin Hao turned on his heel and started walking away without another glance.
You ask why he ran?
Well — did you see those burly bodyguards standing behind that fat man? He wasn't dumb enough to fight ten-on-one.
As soon as Lin Hao disappeared around the corner, the fat man's face turned purple with rage.
"Chase him! Find him and break his legs!" he shouted furiously.
The group of burly men immediately rushed after Lin Hao.
"Honey, don't be angry," Anna said quickly, trying to calm him down.
Slap!
The fat man's hand flew across her face.
"Bitch, I'll deal with you tonight," he growled. "You have a class reunion coming up, right? I'm going with you. I'll make that bastard pay for humiliating me."
...….
Meanwhile, Lin Hao had already run all the way to the nearby parking lot, where he found his car and quickly drove away.
"Damn it, what an unlucky day," he muttered, gripping the steering wheel. "Met two idiots in a row…"
When he finally arrived home, Lin Hao took a long shower and lay down on his bed — exhausted but still fuming.
Then suddenly, his stomach growled.
"Oh right, I didn't even get to eat!" he groaned. "Fine, let's order something."
He opened Meileme Takeout, selected a few dishes, and placed the order, saving his address as Guinlin International.
As he waited, he absentmindedly opened Douyin again and began watching short videos.
Just as he was enjoying the view of another long-legged beauty dancing, the doorbell rang.
Ding-dong.
"Hello owner," a voice said. "Property guard 9527 at your service — here's your takeaway."
Lin Hao blinked, confused. Standing at the door wasn't a deliveryman, but the community's property security guard, badge number 9527.
"Why are you here? Where's the delivery guy?" Lin Hao asked.
"In order to ensure the safety of all residents, the community requires that property staff personally deliver all takeout," the guard explained seriously.
Lin Hao sighed. "Okay… thank you for your hard work."
"It's our honor to serve you," the guard said before leaving.
Lin Hao closed the door and chuckled. "Now this is a luxury residence — they even hand-deliver takeout. Other places make you fetch it yourself."
He unpacked the food and began to eat slowly, his mood finally calming.
"I was going to eat something nice at the shopping plaza," he muttered, "but thanks to those clowns, I ended up running instead."
After finishing, he washed up and lay back on the bed again.
"Alright, time to rest. The system refresh should happen tonight… hopefully something good this time."
...….
Ding-ling-ling!
The alarm rang sharply at midnight. Lin Hao immediately sat up, excitement replacing his drowsiness.
"Alright, system," he said eagerly. "Let's see what treasures you've got for me this time!"
> DING!
"Limited-time flash sale items have been refreshed."
Hearing that, Lin Hao's eyes lit up. "Finally!"
> "The items refreshed this time are as follows:"
In front of him, three identical black boxes appeared — each wrapped with golden ribbons. Their glow was exactly the same, their size and shape perfectly identical, as if they had been copied and pasted by the heavens themselves.
Even their reflections shimmered in unison.
