I don't have a favorite AU, so I'm doing Fairy AU to continue #16 Fairy Ring.
The mischief started when Danny got pinched by his locker. He wasn't sure how it happened. One moment, his hand was on the lock, and the next, something pushed his hand to the hinge just as it closed on his finger. He hadn't sensed a ghost, so that's not what caused it.
A few minutes later, his pants fell. Blushing, he scrambled to pull them back up. Again, no ghost involvement.
After class, he got a drink of water at the fountain, but the water squirted in his face. He growled and looked around, but couldn't see or sense anything. What was going on?
Strange things kept happening to him all that day. More often than not, it involved him getting embarrassed in front of the whole school. Or at least, it felt like that.
It wasn't until late at night, when Danny and Chelsea were training, that he got an answer. He complained to her about his day, and she knew exactly what was going on.
"It's because you destroyed the fairy ring," Chelsea said. "I told you not to."
"Great," Danny said, frowning. "Now what am I supposed to do?"
Chelsea shrugged. "Sorry, I don't know. You'll have to do some research."
"Fine. Training is canceled tonight," Danny said. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Wait!–"
He flew off before Chelsea could say anything more.
Later that night, Danny returned to the destroyed fairy ring. He hoped what he read online was correct. He placed a plastic bear filled with honey at the center of the ring and backed away.
"I express regret over destroying your ring," he said loudly to the night air, quoting what he found online. "This honey is for you."
His eyes widened at the sight of a dozen or more fairies appearing out of bushes and trees to converge on the honey. They were just as he imagined, small and wearing clothes made of leaves and flowers. A few fairies carried the honey into a bush, and the rest flew up to Danny.
"Your debt has been repaid, halfling," the lead fairy said. He glared at Danny, then they all flew away, disappearing again into the foliage.
Danny stared for a while, amazed. Then, not wanting to upset the fairies further, he hurried home. It took him a long time to fall asleep.
