Chapter 11 - No Room for Mercy

Coming out of the stable, the cool night breeze caressed Lucien's face.

He looked up.

Above him, two moons—one crimson, the other pale blue—hung in the sky like celestial sentinels.

"What a beautiful night," he murmured, allowing himself a moment of peace.

But the peace was short-lived.

As he passed the stone staircase near the old training grounds, he spotted movement, two young soldiers, accompanied by an old veteran with a weathered face and calm, calculating eyes.

Seeing him emerge, they quickly moved toward him.

"Young master!"

Both soldiers spoke in unison, standing side by side and raising their hands in salute.

Lucien said nothing. He simply stared at them.

There was something different in his gaze

The younger soldiers shifted uncomfortably, uncertain under his silence.

The old veteran stepped forward.

"Milord," he said with a respectful bow.

Lucien's eyes softened slightly. "Ser Ron."

Ser Ron glanced around before stepping closer. His voice was low, tense.

"The situation is worse than we feared, milord. House Sally's soldiers have been taking the rations meant for us. They're well-fed, well-armed… and they've started recruiting newcomers inside the keep."

Lucien's expression darkened.

"I believe something's happened to the Baron. Before House Sally seizes full control of the castle, we must find him—or... reach out to another House for help."

Lucien narrowed his eyes. "And why should I trust you, Ser Ron?"

The veteran didn't flinch. "Because I know you're thinking the same thing, milord."

Then, seeing doubt still flickering in Lucien's gaze, Ser Ron continued:

"I may be old… but I've served House Argrave all my life. If the House falls, my family will starve. And men like me—we've nowhere to go. The Sally bastards won't let us live if we're caught. I beg you… escape while you still can."

Lucien's gaze lingered on him.

Then he nodded slowly. "You're right, old man."

A pause.

"I was thinking of escape."

The soldiers looked at each other, hope and concern clashing on their faces.

Then Lucien stepped forward, his eyes sharp, voice cold.

"But I've found another path."

He clenched his fist.

"House Argrave's enemies will fall."

"That's my promise to you." Lucien said to Ser Ron

"But for that… I need your absolute loyalty," Lucien said, his gaze steady, voice firm.

Ser Ron dropped to one knee without hesitation.

"You have mine, and my men's, Young Master. In good days or bad, we are the servants of House Argrave."

Lucien nodded, a flicker of satisfaction in his eyes.

"Rise. All of you will be rewarded—this I promise."

He stepped forward, lowering his voice as he added,

"But first, we need to cut off the Baroness's supply. If we seize control of the soup stores, we can feed our soldiers and ease their hunger."

One of the younger soldiers hesitated, then spoke.

"But, Milord… if we do that, the village—"

"They can wait," Lucien interrupted, cold and decisive. "If we fail here, they won't have anything to eat for generations."

He looked them over, his presence sharp as a blade.

"We need to take back the castle. I'll be counting on you. Now go—prepare quietly. Make sure no one notices your movements. This is a top-secret operation."

The veteran and the two young soldiers bowed low.

"Yes, milord!"

That's how within just a day, Edward took over the Lucien life with for better.

Tonight, he make two moves in the chessboard gaining one spy and soldiers.

But he couldn't be sure and being in paranoid, after all in the situation Lucien is in one couldn't be trust other not unconditionally.

But he had faith.

The veteran Ser Ron was a close confidant of the baron.

...

In the Solar Chamber Baroness and her daughter laugh, while eating the juicy meat of the wild boar import from South. These delicacy sometimes couldn't be effort to the normal nobles.

Such meats has its own tenders, far better than the wolves, harden meat.

"Ahah! I told you, didn't I Mother? That boy's a coward! He couldn't even understood out our ploy. How will he survive if he can't even eat. Stupid bastards taking the better of east, and us who deserves couldn't even get an proper meals."

"Mhmm~ You're right, Silvia ! He's useless, the only value he holds is his name."

"I wish i could sell him to a brothel or maybe a slave market he would fetch a quite price for his extra beauty."

"Ahah~! Mother, You are best, Let's sell him and get some money. That would let us live more easily."

"Hah! stupid girl, don't you forgot House Argrave is one of the influenced noble in east. There are lot of people for ready to help them in need."

"Why not sell him in the south?" Silvia asked.

"Hmm... That's not a bad idea. After all, he has his father's look, He would be a great breeding male for those in grim bastards, who only knows how to spawn child's and engulf in pleasure."

Both of them laughing and smiling, their heartless laughter echo through the solar chamber.

In the distance, a lone wolf howled.

"Mother, Is father dealt with ?" Silvia asked while playing with the meat in her plate.

"Good news should be come soon, Don't worry! Rafael already send crow they were in Hurnor desert. Killing him on there wouldn't cause suspicion by the Duke."

"Ahha~! Good, Good. Soon my step-father would meet with his son.

"Ahhhah~!" Both of them giggled while enjoying their food.

But their laughter was cut short, A Sally Soldier came over hurriedly spoke "Some thief clean the food storage, Milady"

"What! Isn't this castle meant to be unbreakable" Baroness immediately flared up, its understandable that her castle was weak and old for thieves to steal but this is Harranhus, one of three strongest castle in the east.

"Who is it, find it out or your head will be showcase to the public." She shouted looking mad.

One of the reason she lost almost all control on her fief because of the people rebelled and go away from the land, because she couldn't provide food, now seeing the control going from her hand she start to became mad.

It was deep in the night, Lucien being cautious didn't slept, while looking at the system function, but hearing their giggling and listening their disgusting words cold rage and disgust was visible on his face.

He now knew their true colours and had a plan now, seeing his first move was successful he couldn't help but formed a smirk on his face.

But, now he only needed to wait for the morning, and prepare for the incoming fight.

So, he once again sat on the bed, and start to think.
