Chapter 18 - Boss

"You pervert! How dare you?!" Naya yelled.

At first, she thought he had actually done it to comfort her... but then, the several weird expressions he had on his face after she pushed him away.

She was utterly disgusted.

"No, no, no... it's definitely not what you think!" Caleb waved his hands in urgency, noticing her misunderstanding.

"You hugged me so tight, your chest was pr—" remembering the feeling she felt... Naya's cheeks turned bright pink for a moment.

"Don't you dare touch me again!" She immediately called off her initial words, feeling slightly embarrassed that she had gotten aroused from a mere hug.

'Why did he have to pull so hard!' she thought annoyingly.

Never for once had she lost her composure in front of a man before.

She let down her guard because it was Caleb.

Her physique was already heightened to a supernatural level after she had received the card.

On a normal day, Caleb would have found himself rolling on the ground with his hands clutched to his stomach.

"It's definitely not what you're thinking... I just happened to think of a way to actually grab this cardholder guy and kill him before he does that to you." Caleb had indeed come up with a wonderful idea in his cloud state.

"What method is that?" Naya asked, her brows raised in a questioning manner, forgetting her embarrassment from earlier.

Her life was much more important than whatever had happened.

"It's simple. The cardholder clearly thinks he has you in the palms of his hands... we can use that against him," Caleb said, quite surprised by his own ability to make an on-the-spot plan in such a short time.

'I guess money can make one think faster,' he thought, a small smile forming on his face.

"How do you want to do that? He is not stupid. He definitely knows that I won't be planning on giving up so easily... I've been to the true dream more than ten times in the past years. Between that and facing him... I'd definitely choose the latter..."

"..."

Once again, Caleb was left speechless by the horrific things that existed in that realm.

"Dying there is worse than anything I can imagine. I've seen those who died and what they turn into..." Naya felt bumps crawl up her skin as she recalled the things she had seen.

"That's the point... If the true dream is really such a scary place, then giving up doesn't sound like a bad idea, does it?"

Naya paused for a moment...

She was already on the edge of giving up. It was clearly obvious.

"You're right... but—"

"We can use your fear as a weapon... you have to give up." A grin slowly climbed his face.

"What the hell are you saying?" Naya's brows furrowed.

"Yes. You'll give up... get him to come to a place where you'll both meet."

"If I'm giving up, then what's the point of bringing him there?" Naya looked at Caleb as though he had hit his head somewhere.

"You giving up... doesn't mean I did. He clearly won't expect someone that isn't a cardholder to be involved in any of this."

"You're right!"

Caleb revealed his plans, making Naya's eyes widen in realization.

It only stayed like that for a moment before it slowly died away.

"But cardholders have superhuman abilities. There's no way you'll be able to beat him... even attacking without him knowing would be very difficult. How do you want to pull it off?" Naya asked.

Caleb smiled.

That was where the system came in...

'The new tab definitely looks like something that will come in handy.'

Caleb had yet to check it, but he was sure from the system's description earlier—not only did he get the cardholder's wealth, but also a bit of their card power as well!

If anything, he was similar to a super cardholder!

He could wield more than one ability!

"Don't worry. Leave that to me... when the time comes, you'll see," Caleb said with a mysterious smile.

"You sound so confident all the time... I just hope you don't end up disappointing me at the end of the day," Naya rolled her eyes at his confidence.

"I don't think I'll disappoint if I'm getting a reward from a beautiful lady like yourself... who knows what type of rewards you'll bless me with."

Naya had almost forgotten that she promised him a favour if he actually helped her.

'...What reward...' she didn't know exactly what she was going to give him.

Her mind went back to the hug from earlier, and her face turned red.

"I'll give you whatever I wish to... hmph," she snorted coldly, folding her hands over her chest.

{Ding!}

{Affection meter: 60/100}

'I guess that's what's going on,' a hidden smile formed on Caleb's face as he saw the system notification.

Caleb didn't push too much. In fact, he was more invested in solving the issues at hand first.

"You won't have the right to say that after I'm done with you," Caleb said. "Give me all the information you have on this cardholder. I need to know everything I can about him."

'Done with me.' His words stuck in her head.

She clearly knew that wasn't what he meant...

But several pictures flashed in her mind...

'What's wrong with me?' she thought, shaking her head inwardly.

Usually, she wouldn't bear those types of thoughts, but it was as though after that brief hug, Caleb had done some strange things to her.

"Information on the cardholder?" Caleb asked again, seeing her somewhat lost in her own thoughts.

"Oh... information I have on him. Well, I guess I did do a little dig-up on his background and I got some things," she replied as she walked over to the small study table in the room.

She brought the file with her when she came.

She didn't know why—and now thinking about it...

'His confidence really makes me trust his abilities... I just hope he doesn't disappoint.'

She placed the file on top of the bed directly where Caleb was standing, and then he saw the name on the file.

(Nathan Brook)

'My boss?'
