Cherreads

Chapter 17 - Forbidden Knowledge

'I should have just killed the redskin' is what Mercury thought observing the ever-energetic creature carefully monitoring her father's regeneration and yapping about it every chance she got, it was almost as though she had never met anything outside her own race.

"Did you ever notice, his psionic energy reserves seem to only affect his regeneration while he's cognitive" She waved a finger and then pointed to the pod's health monitor "See? his reserves are full but he's not healing any faster, meaning this is definitely mystical"

Mercury rolled her eyes and dangled her communicator in one hand as he slouched "This is the billionth time you've said that in the last three hours, aren't you supposed to be traumatized or something?". She was getting tired of the woman's various conjectures into her father's age, because in truth she had no idea how old he was herself.

The red skinned woman gave her a proud snort "It's the eighth time and this is not even close to being traumatizing" she flopped down on a chair and asked the automated service to get her what looked like radioactive sludge which she drank with glee "I already assumed it would be this bad, besides you should professor's notes, the stuff in there is definitely something else".

She side eyed the red skin from her terminal, but she didn't go into elaboration as, she usually did, which at the very least she was aware of what she couldn't share, "You mean that guy that got contaminated?" the red skin slowly nodded, her acid like eyes like lava lamps as the green in her eyes shifted, Mercury watched this in silence for a few seconds and calmly drew a deep breath "…sometimes I feel like taking out your eyes and keeping em as decorations".

The red skin hardly seemed bothered, instead she smiled "I have studied this, humans call them intrusive thoughts? Such a fascinating thing, that such an intelligent race would regularly have needlessly violent thoughts towards something they find interesting or appealing".

Mercury raised an eyebrow but remained silent and crossed her arms waiting for the red skin to continue with an intrigued expression, it was the first non-obsessive and interesting thing she had said, more importantly, she felt the more silent she stayed in the conversation the sooner it would end.

"You see I co-worker say he wanted to eat me up, at the time I thought he was a cannibal but I now know he was showing me affection for some reason" Mercury squinted cartoonishly scanning the lady's body before pulling up her communicator and looking through some earth internet sites, whilst looking back and forth from her.

"I take it you haven't been amongst other races long?" Mercury asked to which the lady cautiously nodded wondering what this was leading into, "And for your first introduction you chose humans?" she nodded again "Is there a reason why?"

The red woman gave her a curious look, her green eyes swirling, like a radioactive ocean "You guys just look pretty similar to us, so I assumed it would be easier to branch out from there", Mercury just chuckled, she had just had a brilliant idea, so brilliant in fact that she felt like congratulating herself and et felt like she should have done this much sooner.

"Then would it be safe to assume you've never read earth literature?" She shook her head, a rather malicious looking smile appeared on her face, walking over to the red skinned woman she patted her on her shoulder and handed a communicator "Consider this a service, my oh so naïve red skin"

Looking at the communicator in her hand the red skin was puzzled and asked "What is this?" Mercury's smile only widened, filled with nothing but mischievous glee and she couldn't help but laugh just a bit, she coughed, gritting her teeth.

'Compose yourself Mercury, you're better than this, today this redskin is about to learn curiosity can be dangerous' She steadied her emotions in order not to allow the red skin to be suspicious, it never goes well when prey gets suspicious after all.

"Forbidden knowledge, a dark spiral that will never end". She was just an inch, no I dare say a mere millimeter from cackling like an evil witch with her arms spread out, this internal resistance of hers alone was like a psychic assault to her wellbeing, she simply nodded in satisfaction and walked off into her quarters, giving her all the space, she needed, corruption was most dangerous when it's spread in silence after all.

The petite lady tossed aside her combat gear and switched into her comfortable clothed and plopped down on her bed and closed her eyes, imaging how she would react to it when she woke up, the excitement almost making her unable to rest.

When she awoke, she quickly checked the sips course from her bedside terminal along with the date, she had slept for quite a few hours, this was the only measure of time since cycles differed from planet to planet and calling a specific time-frame one day would be pushing it.

She cheerfully walked out to the common lounge and couldn't find the red skin and made a small humming sound before checking the other accommodations, and finally she found the red skin, curled into a ball with a blanket and looking tired.

Her yellow sulfur like hair was disheveled and it was as though the light in her acid filled eyes had dimmed, she would look at the terminal in a daze and then up at the metal ceiling and then at the large body size mirror that was opposite her.

Inhaling her despair like a drug Mercury had never been happier in her life, she thanked the gods that she had not killed this woman at the start of the journey, she had not been this satisfied in a long time, finding people like her was so rare that she almost felt like documenting this euphoria.

"Do I really look like a succubus?"
