Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Furina’s Little Mood

Top floor of the Palais Mermonia.

Furina eagerly opened today's The Steambird, anticipating a glorious report of her pivotal testimony that successfully reversed the entire case.

However, the moment her eyes landed on the headline of the front-page article, she froze: "Mysterious Gunman Shoots Yide and Baker in the Street, Baker Tragically Dies."

She quickly scanned the contents of the report, her shock beyond words.

In Fontaine, a nation that prides itself on justice, such a heinous incident could occur, undoubtedly a great insult to Fontaine!

Soon, Furina understood the mastermind behind this case.

Those nobles who framed Yide, resorting to such despicable means to protect their power and interests.

Attached below the report was an analysis by a famous journalist, speculating that the gunman might have been dissatisfied with Yide's conduct and, in order to uphold so-called justice, was forced to shoot him in public.

However, the cunning and treacherous Yide dodged the bullet at the critical moment, causing the innocent Baker to become a scapegoat.

According to this journalist, all the blame should be placed on Yide.

After reading this analysis, Furina angrily threw the The Steambird aside.

This report was utter nonsense, turning black into white.

Yide was clearly the victim of this incident, but in the journalist's pen, he was portrayed as even more vicious than the gunman.

She felt sorry for him. He was clearly someone who was truly upholding justice, but he was framed by nobles, assassinated by a gunman, and reviled and scorned by the public who were unaware of the truth.

Suddenly, she stood up abruptly from her seat, a strong, unprecedented impulse surging within her – she desperately wanted to see Yide. Right now, at this very moment!

She grabbed the lecture notes she had carefully prepared over the past few days from the table, then hurried out of the room, striding purposefully towards Yide's house without hesitation.

Along the way, a gentle breeze stirred, lightly lifting her white hair, shimmering in the bright sunlight, as ethereal and graceful as a fairy descending to earth.

Furina passed through the bustling streets of Fontaine and finally arrived at Yide's villa.

Upon entering the villa, she saw a tall woman in a white dress standing elegantly, lecturing Lynette and Lyney.

The woman's face was cold and dignified, exuding a powerful aura, and her interaction with Lynette and Lyney seemed particularly intimate.

This scene stirred a strange emotion within Furina.

Furina didn't linger, hurrying towards Yide's study.

Arlecchino had already noticed Furina's arrival, observing the subtle changes on Furina's face without saying a word, a playful smile curving her lips.

Furina pushed open the door to the study and found Yide sitting at his desk, writing diligently.

Hearing the sound of the door opening, he immediately stopped writing and looked up at Furina. "Ms. Furina, I suggest you knock on the door next time you enter my study."

Furina huffed in dissatisfaction, questioning him accusingly, "Why didn't you tell me to come and teach Lynette and Lyney?"

Yide didn't answer her directly, but instead asked, "You must have heard about me being shot in the street yesterday."

Furina nodded. "I heard, but what does that have to do with teaching Lynette and Lyney?"

Yide patiently explained, "The nobles and I are now mortal enemies. They will take all sorts of measures to deal with me, which means this place is not safe."

Hearing Yide's explanation, Furina suddenly understood. A warm current surged in her heart, and she gazed at his deep, bright black eyes with emotion. "So, you were worried about my safety?"

Yide shook his head. "I'm afraid you'll be a burden to us."

Furina was furious, all the emotion from just now vanishing in an instant.

She thought of another question, asking with a hint of defiance, "Then, the woman who is teaching Lynette and Lyney, doesn't she need to worry about safety?"

Yide calmly replied, "She is a Vision holder, very powerful, and capable of handling various emergencies." His tone was full of trust and admiration for the woman.

Furina pouted and asked tentatively, "Do you value her a lot?"

"Yes," Yide admitted without hesitation. "Her talent and courage are no less than mine. I have decided to make her the deputy director of the West Factory."

Hearing this, Furina felt a sense of crisis. So, she resolutely said, "Starting tomorrow, I will teach Lynette and Lyney."

Yide thought for a moment, feeling that if Furina frequently came to his house, the nobles opposite would be somewhat wary and would not dare to launch an attack easily, lest they accidentally injure her.

He said, "Alright, you can come and teach Lynette and Lyney. However, for your safety, it's best to bring guards."

Furina casually replied, "Got it."

Her mind didn't seem to be entirely on this, her gaze inadvertently falling on the manuscript Yide was writing.

"Are you writing a novel again?" she asked curiously.

Yide smiled slightly and shook his head. "No, it's not me writing, it's you writing. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes should have a sequel. Calculating the time, it's time to harvest the leeks."

Furina glared at him. "You're full of bad ideas."

Then, Furina gently picked up the manuscript Yide had just finished, sat on a chair nearby, and began to read attentively.

The room fell silent, with only the sound of her gently turning the pages and the sound of words flowing from Yide's pen.

Warm sunlight streamed in through the window, illuminating the entire study brightly and warmly.

The sunlight shone on Furina, coating her silhouette with a soft halo, and she immersed herself in the world of the novel, forgetting all the troubles and disturbances of the outside world.

It wasn't until she couldn't turn to a new page that Furina woke up as if from a dream, realizing that she had finished reading everything.

She immediately felt a sense of loss, as such beautiful times always passed too quickly.

Turning her head, she saw Yide still sitting at his desk, writing intently.

His focused appearance exuded a unique charm, making people involuntarily attracted to him.

Furina quietly watched him, emotions flowing in her heart.
