Chapter 22: The Mist Watches
The full moon peeked through shredded clouds, casting a pale light over the mist-covered mountains. The air was cold. Too quiet.
Half of Division 7 and Division 10 were sent for nighttime patrol—led by senior knights and accompanied by both captains' trusted vice captains.
Meth, gripping her staff tightly, walked stiffly beside Dred. Her face was pale, eyes darting at every rustle in the leaves.
Dred smirked. "What, scared of rabbits?"
Meth glared. "No! But… if a ghost pops out, I'm hiding behind you!"
She suddenly gripped Dred's arm tightly, making him stumble.
Dred (blushing): "O-Oi! That's not proper formation!"
Meth: "Shut up. If I die, I'm haunting you."
Aloy chuckled from behind. "You're already haunting him, just with love."

Synoh and Lux – Brotherly Talk
Further up the patrol line, Synoh and Lux walked side by side. The light from Lux's orb magic floated above them, softly illuminating their path.
Synoh: "Hard to believe… we're doing joint patrols now."
Lux nodded. "Times change. We're not students anymore."
A pause.
Lux (quietly): "By the way… did you hear about Yuta?"
Synoh blinked. "No. What happened?"
Lux: "He left Division 9. Said he couldn't grow stronger there. He's training with his father now… taming monsters."
Synoh (surprised): "…He really left?"
Lux smiled faintly. "Not surprising. You know him. His strength comes from connection… not orders."
Synoh (softly): "…I hope he's okay."
Lux (smirking): "He'll come back stronger than us. Just wait."

A Sudden Scream
The night was shattered by a piercing scream echoing through the mist.
"AAARGHHH—!!"
Everyone froze.
Then chaos.
Ursa: "Form up! Move!"
Jack (Vice Captain of Division 7): "Sound came from the western ridge!"
Knights sprinted toward the sound. Meth clung tighter to Dred, and even Aloy drew his sword with urgency. Elara and Alistair rushed from the rear guard position to regroup.
They reached a clearing.
The mist began to thin—revealing a patrol squad trembling in fear.
Weapons scattered. One knight on the ground, paralyzed with wide eyes. Others held their comrades who had collapsed, twitching.
And in the middle of the trail—
A set of footprints… but no one there.
Captain Elara's eyes narrowed.
Captain Alistair whispered: "No blood. No wounds. But they're terrified."
---
Everyone stood in stunned silence as the wind howled again, colder than before.
Synoh whispered:
"Something is watching us…"
