—General Laura POV—
Laura lifted her hand and reached into the man's mouth, yanking away a false tooth. She wouldn't have another incident like last time. The fox man screamed underneath her as the taste of blood filled his mouth. At the same time two soldiers came running into the room with weapons at the ready.
"Where were you?" Laura growled at them. "Zenesha was attacked and you didn't think to investigate?"
The wolf kept her eyes on the fox in front of her, aware that right now wasn't a good time for anyone to see her eyes. The two soldiers that came into the room saw signs of combat and quickly realized they were going to be questioned and fired. If they were lucky.
"Just leave. I don't need you now." She ordered. "Leave your ID's here and await further orders."
The two pale faced soldiers compiled, not wanting to face the wrath of their angered superior. They made a quick glance in Zenesha's direction, and much to their relief they seemed to pay them no mind. Her focus was completely on the wolf and fox man.
Once the two of them left Laura turned her gaze towards the fox woman. "I need you to look for the device they're using."
Zenesha, who seemed to be in a daze, snapped out of it and hurried over to Laura. To make it easier to search, the woman created bindings made from void energy and bounded the man's limbs. She wanted to break them, but the idea of hearing his screams sounded irritating.
Laura's hatred for this person has exponentially increased by the fact he shared any similarities to Zenesha. Making what would probably be amusing cries of pain into something unpleasant. She would rather erase him from existence without even a sound. Leaving no indication that he ever walked the earth.
"Found it." Zenesha said as she held up a small cube like object. For some reason she was able to feel an energy coming from it. It felt divine.
Laura looked at what the fox was holding and frowned in displeasure. The divine energy makes her feel uncomfortable. Though she was curious on how Zenesha could tell that was the device they were looking for. It didn't look special.
"How could you tell?" Laura asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
"I feel an energy coming from it." Zenesha responded.
"... You must be becoming sensitive to such energies then." Laura muttered before turning her attention back to the tied up dead man. "Now for you."
Stuck laying on his back, the traitor watched as the wolf with black eyes reached her clawed hand into his chest. There was no blood or pain, it was like she phased through his body. The feeling of something going through him was strange and uncomfortable.
"Do you feel that?" Laura said, leaning over him, her voice low. "That's your heart I'm touching. I know the threat of death doesn't scare you, but what if I told you I can keep you alive for as long as I want?"
"What are you?" The man asked with fear creeping into his voice.
"You asked that already."
"...."
"How does that little device of yours work?" Laura asked."
"...." The only thing she received was a glare."
With a sigh the wolf's claws tightened around his heart, causing him to cry out in pain. The feeling of his heart ristincting in his chest caused him to feel as if he was having a heart attack. Suddenly the pain was gone, phantom traces of it that made him squirm uncomfortably.
"Tell me how that device works, why couldn't I remember you?"
"Just kill me."
Laura frowned, she focused energy into her eyes and looked deep within his spiritual self. Despite crying out in pain the man's spirit didn't fluctuate. To test this she broke his leg for his current answer, confirming that even torture wouldn't work.
"We can do this the easy way or the hard way." Laura said to him, getting impatient. "You wanted to know what I was, right?"
She asked not to bother to heal the man's leg. She did dull the pain just enough for him to be able to understand her words, keeping his mind clear of fog. The sack of flesh below her silently glared up at Laura, indignation filling his eyes.
"I'm a Forsaken." She whispered. "I can drag your soul out of your body and eat it right here and now."
"...."
"I got another secret to tell you. The afterlife is real, and you'll never get to see it as you're slowly digested inside my body."
"...."
With an annoyed sigh Laura broke the man's other leg.
"Fucking bitch!" He cried.
"If you don't give me an answer I'll just break more of you." She said with a cruel smile. "I can break you eventually. If not physically, then I'll just have to find an emotional vulnerability."
"Curse you to Hell."
Snarling Laura broke one of his arms causing him to cry out in pain again. Standing behind the wolf Zenesha watched her work with great interest. After she broke the man's arm she shifted her arm slightly in the man's chest before retracting it.
In place of her normal fur covered arm was instead a pitch black limb with swirling orange light. Grey electrical energy crackled around her arm, as she held a pale blue light in her head. The weirdest thing of it all was the fact that just looking at the arm made her vision feel hazy, as if she couldn't see it properly.
"Are you scared now, you sorry excuse for a snack?" She asked, annoyed, speaking to the pale blue light before opening her mouth and putting it inside. She licked her lips after swallowing and turned her attention back to Zenesha.
"It'll take a while to digest and sort through his memories." She said standing up ignoring the still living body next to her. "For now we should move the body. Without the soul it's just an empty vessel."
"Wh- what did you do to him?" Zenesha asked, feeling a little lost on what she just seen.
"... I… ate his… soul." Laura answered hesitantly. "You're not… scared of me right?"
The fox watched the wolf's ears flatten against her head and their tail wrap around their leg nervously. Laura was truly frightened by the prospect of Zenesha pushing her away. She was just… angry. She didn't think clearly and while hunting for information, the wolf had also wished to hurt the man who attacked her princess.
"Why would I be scared of you Lola?" Zenesha asked, her voice soft, stepping closer brushing the loose hair from her face. She looked down into her wolf's eyes, the orange glow of her irises felt enchanting. Like small flames in the middle of inky darkness.
'I changed my mind. I'm glad Zenesha is taller than me.' Laura thought, feeling her heart beat in her chest as she gazed up at the fox princess.
"I could never be scared of you." Zenesha continued cupping the wolf's face with her hand. "You've done… so much for me."
Laura noticed that Zenesha's lips seemed to quiver but before she could say anything her princess withdrew and pulled out a communicator. After typing something inside it, two soldiers, different from before, entered the room. They paused slightly at the state of it before giving the both of them a salute.
"Take the body… and kill him. He's comatose and won't ever wake up." The fox said, her ice princess persona on full display. The tenderness she showed before was completely gone.
"Make sure to hand this man's tags and ID to the investigation team. I want to know the name of every person he's interacted with."
"Yes ma'am."
Zenesha and Laura watched the two soldiers work and once they left Laura grabbed the fox and teleported away. Normally she would need to feed on essence, but devouring a soul has allowed her to temporarily ignore such things. So without any care she brought the two of them to their bedroom.
They fell onto the woman's bed, with Zenesha laying underneath the wolf.
"Are you sure you're okay with…." Laura trailed off as she glanced at her arm planted next to Zenesha's head.
While the electrical discharge was no longer present, it was still pitch black with the occasional glowing orange light swirling inside. While she didn't feel anything weird about it she knew her arm gave off a sense of wrongness. It didn't belong here.
She didn't belong. She just ate a soul like a monster found in folktales and ancient warnings. Laura wasn't a person, even if she pretended to be one, she would fundamentally be different from Zenesha. So she should be scared.
"I wouldn't lie about that." Zenesha answered, unaware of the anxiety building in Laura. "Lola, why would I care about any of that?"
"I never planned for you to see… this. I was just so… angry."
"You being on my behalf truly flattered me." She said, the corners of her mouth lifting into a very faint smile. "It was very…."
"Very what?" Laura asked with a tilt of her head. Seeing the smile on the fox's face calmed her down and instead made her feel bubbly inside.
A blush slowly appeared on the Foxes face as she thought better about explaining what she felt. "N- nothing."
Laura smiled and buried herself into Zenesha's chest as she hugged her. She was truly adorable. The wolf just wanted to snuggle up against her with all her might. Zenesha on the other hand didn't really know what to do in this situation. She felt like they had crossed a line at some point, but didn't know what it was.
Instead she just decided to compliment Laura on her appearance since she seems to be worried about it.
"By the way, I don't see why you were worried about your appearance." She started. "Your eyes were just… it was cool. I liked them."
Admitting she found her eyes enchanting felt too much like flirting for Zenesha. She tactfully ignored the fact she and the wolf were cuddling on her bed. The wolf however still tightened her hold on the fox in her arms after hearing her words.
"And you're adorable my Princess."
The two of them stayed in that position in silence for a while longer after that.
