The changes brought about by Mega Evolution were too dramatic, as if stepping into another dimension in an instant.
Every time Porter's three Pokemon were crushed, Porter at the guest commentary table would wince and mutter:
"Go easy, go easy... ouch, why is it another instant knockout?"
He truly wished at that moment that he was the one being defeated on the field instead of watching this massacre.
After Metagross swept through Porter's team, he continued his rampage, crushing League University's third position and eliminating six professional-level Pokemon in succession. After achieving the incredible feat of one-versus-six, he finally exited his Mega Evolution form.
Finally, Roy sent out Blastoise.
"Will it happen again?"
"Can even Blastoise evolve further?"
"If Blastoise can do it, then my Charizard..."
"My Alakazam..."
"My Pidgeot..."
Under everyone's expectant, excited, and increasingly numb gazes, Roy raised his right hand once more, making the Key Stone shine with brilliant light.
The starter Pokemon were the most representative species of all. The fact that even starters could undergo Mega Evolution completely ignited everyone's imagination about the possibilities this phenomenon offered.
Could all Pokemon achieve this transformation?
What kind of power served as the foundation for Mega Evolution?
What conditions needed to be met before they could make their own Pokemon undergo Mega Evolution?
Countless questions, overwhelming curiosity, and pure amazement made the audience forget about watching the actual battle. Instead, they eagerly anticipated the post-match interview session.
Reporters, do something useful for once...
Sensing everyone's expectations, the reporters on site rubbed their hands together eagerly, ready to demonstrate their investigative skills.
But at that very moment, Roy, who seemed somewhat bored watching Blastoise's overwhelming dominance, did something that made every reporter despair.
He began explaining without waiting for any interview session.
Roy's voice, amplified by the arena's sound system, echoed throughout the stadium and reached the ears of hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide.
"The phenomenon you've witnessed is called Mega Evolution. The changes it produces far exceed the level of ordinary evolution, surpassing the limits of Pokemon evolution as we've known it. It represents a true sublimation at the cellular level."
"After Mega Evolution, a Pokemon's abilities, typing, and even fundamental nature may change dramatically. Their base stat totals increase substantially, providing tremendous assistance in helping Pokemon break through their species' natural limitations."
"As for the evolution method, I believe everyone can see it requires the 'Key Stone' I'm holding to facilitate the process. And yes - it doesn't require psychic abilities, special bloodlines, or unique physical traits. No matter who you are, as long as the proper conditions are met, this evolution beyond normal limits can be mastered."
Every word Roy spoke made the trainers watching feel their hearts race with excitement and anticipation.
Power beyond ordinary evolution meant massive increases in combat effectiveness.
Greatly increased base stat totals meant the high walls that had once blocked countless trainers could now be easily overcome. This also explained how Roy had been able to break through conventional training limitations in just a few months.
Key Stone... well, whatever it had been called before, Roy's declaration had now officially renamed it.
Although Key Stones were precious, every nation had accumulated some reserves over the centuries.
For master-level trainers and above, obtaining one was achievable - certainly easier than becoming a psychic. This meant the power had strategic applications on a national scale.
"This is power sufficient to change the world."
After hearing Roy's explanation, everyone realized this truth and understood that the tidal waves of a new era were about to surge forward.
The global balance of power might shift dramatically because of the discovery Roy had revealed.
Of course, not everyone was pleased with this development.
Seeing Roy launch into his impromptu lecture without paying any attention to the battle, League University's fifth position player had a complete mental breakdown: "Could you at least look at me?"
The reporters on site felt like crying: "Could you show some respect for our profession?"
Seeing that only the final Pokemon remained for League University's fifth position, Elon, Anya, and the brothers Patrick and Philip suddenly realized: "Could you save at least one opponent for us?"
With Blastoise's final Hydro Pump sweeping away the last enemy, the national tournament concluded with results that exceeded everyone's wildest expectations.
Capital University, which had been widely criticized and dismissed by most observers before the competition, had achieved the incredible feat of a single player sweeping the entire tournament with a perfect one-versus-five record.
The students, faculty, and supporters of Capital University felt like they were living in a dream.
Principal Finn, watching from afar in the capital, observed Mega Blastoise on the big screen alongside his own Blastoise.
The scene of handing a small Squirtle to Roy remained vivid in his memory.
A year ago, that inexperienced boy had unknowingly reached this incredible pinnacle.
The half-joking promise to "show Blastoise and me what the Elite level looks like" now seemed like merely a matter of time.
The individual battles and the humiliation of being completely swept by Roy had utterly destroyed the fighting spirit of League University's team members.
The self-confidence and pride they had possessed as elite students from a prestigious institution had been completely shattered by a single person.
In the team battle segment, every member of League University chose to forfeit, with Henry being no exception.
The gap was simply too enormous to continue competing.
It was better to forfeit with dignity than endure the humiliation of being crushed and swept again.
There were clearly different levels of mastery when it came to Mega Evolution power.
As the first victims of this new phenomenon, they understood better than anyone the vast difference between those who had not mastered this power and those who had.
In fact, the Pokemon League's official competitive division had already begun extremely heated discussions about "whether Mega Evolution should be permitted in competitive tournaments."
This power was simply too overwhelming.
Barring any unforeseen developments, competition rules would need to be modified accordingly.
At minimum, the number of Mega Evolutions would need to be limited, otherwise matches would become tediously one-sided.
At the awards ceremony, everyone on the Capital University team wore the medals presented by the organizers.
Touching the medals in their hands, Elon and the others weren't as happy as they had imagined they would be. Instead, they felt a strange sense of "is that it?"
Their opponents had forfeited the team battle, and Roy had swept five opponents in individual combat. They hadn't even had a chance to participate.
The generals were prepared to fight to the death, but His Majesty had already won?
Looking at the Capital University team members who appeared blank and somewhat dissatisfied (except for Roy), the audience found the situation amusing.
"Honestly, if I could win by doing nothing, I'd take it too."
"Don't be ridiculous - what if you actually had to fight a match?"
"I'm so jealous. Why isn't Roy on my team? I want to be a national champion with a pseudo-legendary Pokemon too."
"This guy... why is he so ridiculously strong?"
"At this point, I'm calling Roy the final boss. Who agrees and who objects?"
