Whether it was the evolutionary light surrounding Lucario or Roy's declaration of "Mega Evolution," everything happening on the field at that moment left everyone's minds completely blank. Even Henry looked utterly bewildered.
It wasn't until the light faded and the familiar yet transformed Pokemon came into view that people gradually regained their senses.
What followed was unprecedented shock and disbelief.
Lucario's body had suddenly grown taller and more imposing. His limbs had become significantly more powerful and defined. Sharp steel spikes now protruded from the backs of his paws and the soles of his feet, gleaming menacingly under the arena lights.
This transformation couldn't be explained by abilities, moves, or any known enhancement technique.
This kind of physical growth could only be described as evolution.
But how could Lucario evolve when he was already fully evolved?
Blue aura energy erupted from Mega Lucario like an endless ocean. Bathed in this explosive power, his expression became more fierce and determined than ever before.
The power of Mega Evolution had amplified his aura to incredible levels.
At that moment, the entire world seemed to fall silent. The audience's eyes widened in shock, their faces frozen in disbelief as they unconsciously held their breath, as if caught in some impossible dream. At the Capital University viewing area, Elon, Anya, and others who knew Roy possessed a secret weapon sat stunned, questioning everything they thought they knew.
Porter, seated at the guest commentary table, shot to his feet with an expression of complete incredulity.
Cameras throughout the arena focused on Lucario's transformed body, broadcasting his new form across the nation and around the entire world.
Henry kept opening and closing his mouth, unconsciously taking a step backward.
"Lucario... evolved?"
He couldn't comprehend what he was witnessing, and the shock was overwhelming.
Not just Henry - this scene violated every trainer's understanding of Pokemon biology.
Lucario was an extremely rare Pokemon, one of the very few capable of naturally mastering aura power. Due to its rarity, its genetic structure had been analyzed countless times. Like Garchomp, Metagross, Salamence, and other pseudo-legendary Pokemon, it had long been determined that further evolution was impossible.
For common Pokemon like Electabuzz and Pikachu, research value and priority weren't as high, but for rare species like Lucario, the scientific community was certain about evolutionary limits.
Stay calm!
Be calm!
Henry bit his lip hard, the metallic taste and sharp pain bringing him back to his senses.
No matter what happened, as long as the match wasn't over, a trainer's first duty was to focus on the battle.
So what if Lucario had truly evolved?
The growth that a single evolution could provide shouldn't be enough to bridge the massive power gap between Garchomp and Lucario.
"Dragon Rush!"
Henry pushed his draconic power to its absolute limit.
Garchomp felt his trainer's unwavering determination, and the most powerful dragon energy he'd ever channeled began surging and boiling within his body.
Outrage, killing intent, and draconic mastery.
His strength had reached its peak.
He would never lose to anyone!
"ROOOOOAR!"
Setting aside all hesitation and distraction, Garchomp launched his attack.
With peak power fueling his strongest technique - the transcendent-level Dragon Rush.
Mega Lucario narrowed his red eyes, using his precognitive abilities to predict his opponent's actions. He concentrated all the power of his expanded aura into his right fist while simultaneously sacrificing his defensive capabilities to stimulate the energy hidden within every cell of his body.
Defense?
Unnecessary.
As long as he didn't get hit, defense was meaningless.
This was the most defensive power Lucario had ever sacrificed in exchange for the most explosive offensive force.
Secret Technique...
Close Combat!
His ultimate punch erupted forward.
Aura represents the mind, and the massive aura energy transformed into Lucario's mental manifestation - a gigantic wolf head that resembled Lucario himself.
The enormous blue wolf head collided directly with Garchomp's purple dragon energy!
BOOM!
The two forces clashed violently, and frenzied air currents exploded from the point of impact, creating an astonishing hurricane.
The entire arena shook violently. The safety barriers protecting the spectator areas began crumbling, and panic erupted in the stands as many people were literally blown from their seats.
Countless children who had come to watch were frightened to tears by the overwhelming display of power.
Was this really just the aftermath of a battle between two trainers who hadn't even graduated yet?
Just when everyone was absorbed by the beyond-regulation power both sides displayed, thinking the clash might continue forever, an extremely obvious cracking sound suddenly exploded through the air.
It was the sound of Garchomp's fins fracturing.
Maintaining Dragon Rush during this prolonged clash meant Garchomp's fins had to continuously channel dragon power as the driving force for his charge.
Under such intense strain, his fins finally gave way.
"ROAAAAAR!" Garchomp let out a furious scream. Losing the constant power provided by his fins, he could no longer maintain Dragon Rush.
The massive wolf head engulfed Garchomp completely, wrapping around his body before suddenly launching skyward, creating a frenzied whirlwind.
From the outside, it looked like an enormous tornado had erupted toward the heavens, not dissipating until it reached the clouds above.
Garchomp's eyes rolled back, foam bubbling from his mouth as his limbs went limp. He appeared to have lost consciousness and was falling continuously under gravity's pull.
Lucario took a deep breath, his right arm hanging irregularly and uselessly at his side.
The outcome was decided.
Henry stood there in stunned silence.
This... this was evolution?
What a joke.
How could normal evolution provide such a massive power increase?
His mind reeled violently as over twenty years of knowledge and understanding crumbled completely. Henry felt like the world before him was distorting and shattering like broken glass.
"What are you doing?"
Roy's serious voice finally snapped Henry back to awareness.
"Hurry up and recall Garchomp!"
When Pokemon trigger their fainting mechanism, any additional injury could prove fatal.
If Garchomp in his current condition hit the ground...
Henry quickly grabbed his Pokeball and recalled Garchomp just in time. Feeling his partner's devastated condition through their bond, a crushing sense of guilt overwhelmed him.
As a trainer, losing wasn't a failure of duty - but forgetting his Pokemon's safety was a betrayal.
Henry gritted his teeth. He couldn't allow himself to be consumed by guilt. He had already failed his duty once; he couldn't do it a second time.
The match was still ongoing.
"Go, Dragonite!"
The rotund Dragonite appeared on the field and immediately entered an Outrage state, recognizing the dangerous opponent before him.
Unlike Garchomp, who incorporated killing intent into his power, this Dragonite had combined the aerial energy of 'Hurricane' with his Outrage.
The draconic power flowing through him made Twister his most suitable technique for the advanced energy he wielded.
"HOOOOOO!"
Dragonite flapped his wings, releasing his draconic power.
The transcendent-level Twister reminded Roy of glimpses he'd seen of the Champion's Dragonite, who could blow away hundreds of Thunder attacks with a single technique.
That realm which had once seemed unreachable - now he could faintly see its blurred outline.
But the Dragonite before him cast too faint a shadow of that legendary power.
Vulnerable.
"Crush him," Roy whispered.
With his usual right fist damaged, Lucario swung his left fist instead, converting his expanded aura into driving force as he once again used the secret technique of absolute offense at the cost of defense.
Close Combat!
His non-dominant left hand resulted in decreased power.
However, this didn't affect the outcome in the slightest.
The giant wolf head devoured the entire Twister, locked onto Dragonite, and swallowed him whole.
The same scene repeated itself - even the thick-skinned Dragonite lost consciousness under this devastating punch.
As the price, Lucario's left arm was also rendered useless.
With trembling hands, Henry sent out his third Pokemon.
Haxorus.
The advanced energy this Pokemon mastered added the malicious intent of biting and killing to his Outrage foundation.
The technique that best suited him was Crunch.
The moment Haxorus appeared on the field, he erupted with fury. His proud fangs, capable of cutting through iron like butter, snapped toward Lucario with lightning speed.
Lucario's precognitive abilities revealed just how terrifying Haxorus's bite force was. If those jaws connected, even a defensively-oriented Metagross would suffer serious injury.
Not to mention Lucario, who was flesh and blood and had already used his Close Combat secret technique twice.
But again, the same principle applied.
What did low defense matter?
As long as he didn't get hit, defense was irrelevant.
Compared to Garchomp and Dragonite, Haxorus's speed was far too slow.
CLANG!
Haxorus bit empty air, his teeth aching from the impact.
At that moment, a massive shadow fell over him. He quickly looked up to see Lucario soaring through the air above, a gigantic Aura Sphere constantly growing between his paws.
"Draco Meteor!"
Henry made one final desperate attempt.
Haxorus launched the Dragon-type's ultimate technique. However, the meteor he released was like a praying mantis trying to stop a chariot compared to Lucario's massively amplified Aura Sphere - utterly futile.
The Aura Sphere swallowed Haxorus completely.
The impact of the massive sphere and the terrifying energy storm that followed made everyone realize just how incredible this moment was.
A professional-level Lucario had crushed three master-level Pokemon after an impossible 'evolution.'
Unimaginable.
Incomprehensible.
Unacceptable.
"This... this..." Elon's words trailed off in confusion. He felt his brain scrambling to process what he'd witnessed. "This is Roy's secret weapon? I think we all had a very different understanding of what 'secret weapon' meant..."
"Team captain, can I still call him an underclassman?" Philip swallowed hard and muttered, "Come on, tell me this is all a dream."
Patrick wanted to say something, but lacking the vocabulary to express his thoughts, he could only manage: "Roy is incredible!"
Anya remained silent, feeling her heart pounding violently in her chest.
On the field.
After defeating three opponents in succession, Mega Evolution's power was completely depleted. Lucario was surrounded by the light of evolution - no, the light of reverting to his normal form.
Looking at the exhausted Lucario and the young trainer in the battle box, the arena fell completely silent. Hundreds of millions of viewers around the world who had witnessed this historic moment erupted into chaos.
Roy pulled down the brim of his cap and allowed himself a slight smile.
I hereby announce a version update. Who agrees, and who objects?
After a hundred years, Earth's Pokemon era was about to enter the XY generation.
