Chapter 118: Hidden Truths
The shadow disappeared into the trees, but River felt it leave.
Her purple eyes snapped open in the safe house three hundred miles away.
The other hybrid children crowded around her small bed, their faces worried.
"What did you see?" asked Maya, her dragon-witch background making her voice sound older than her twelve years. "Trouble," River whispered.
"Big trouble coming for Liana." Ben, the fox shifter, tilted his head.
"How do you know?" River sat up, her hands sparkling with that strange moonlight-starfire energy.
"Because I can see through the spaces between worlds now. And someone's watching them."
"Spaces between worlds?" Maya's eyes widened. "It's hard to explain."
River pressed her hands together, and the light between them shifted, showing glimpses of other places.
"When I got scared during the attack, something opened up inside me. Like a door I didn't know existed." The other children leaned closer.
