Chapter 117: The Calm Before Tomorrow
Three days passed in eerie silence.
No more attacks. No emergency broadcasts. Even the communication crystals stayed quiet, as if the entire supernatural world was holding its breath.
Liana sat by the window of their makeshift hideout—an abandoned cabin Marcus had found deep in the mountains. Her brown eyes watched the forest, looking for threats that never came.
"You're thinking too loud," Jace said, settling beside her on the old couch.
"Sorry." She leaned against his shoulder, feeling the warmth of his body. Three days ago, she wouldn't have been able to feel something so simple. The dark magic had numbed everything human about her.
Kael looked up from the map he'd been studying. "The silence is strategic. They're regrouping, same as us."
"Or they're planning something worse," Rowan added quietly. He hadn't slept much since the battle. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw flashes of possible futures through their weakened bond.
