Chapter 26 - ADELINE SAVES THE DAY AGAIN...

Scene: The Shadows Begin to Form]

Jeremy hears a deep, guttural growl in the distance. His heart pounds as he turns to see figures emerging from the darkness—twisted, shadowy beings with glowing red eyes. They move closer, circling him like predators.

Voice (deep and mocking): "You should not have come, mortal. You're meddling in powers beyond your comprehension."

Jeremy tightens his grip on the board, his palms sweaty.

Jeremy: [nervously] "Yeah, well, I didn't exactly have a lot of options. You try living with a ghost mentor who won't stop bossing you around."

The voice lets out a low, rumbling laugh, and the shadowy figures close in. Just as Jeremy starts to panic, a bright light cuts through the darkness.

[Scene: Adeline Saves the Day (Again)]

Adeline materializes in a burst of light, her presence radiating authority. Her physical form is shimmering slightly, showing that even she's struggling to maintain herself in this realm.

Adeline: [sternly] "Step away from him, you wretched shadows. He is under my protection."

The figures retreat slightly, growling in frustration. The voice speaks again, now more venomous.

Voice: "You cannot stop what has been set in motion, guardian. The board's power is beyond you."

Adeline: [smirking] "Oh, I've heard that line before. Always from someone who ends up regretting it."

She turns to Jeremy, her expression softening for a moment.

Adeline: "Jeremy, you fool. Did you really think I'd let you face this alone?"

Jeremy: [relieved but annoyed] "I thought the plan was for you to stay behind and pull me out if things went sideways."

Adeline: [raising an eyebrow] "And leave you to bungle this on your own? Hardly."

[Scene: A Game of Wits]

The voice growls again, and the ground beneath them shifts, forming a massive chessboard-like pattern. The board game in Jeremy's hands floats into the air, and the symbols on it rearrange themselves to form a glowing puzzle.

Voice: "If you wish to end this, you must prove your worth. Solve the puzzle, mortal, or face oblivion."

Jeremy: [groaning] "Oh great. I barely passed my last math quiz, and now I'm supposed to solve a magical puzzle?"

Adeline: [placing a hand on his shoulder] "Focus, Jeremy. This isn't about intelligence—it's about instinct. The board wants you to second-guess yourself. Don't let it."

Jeremy nods, swallowing his fear, and steps forward. The glowing puzzle shifts and changes, symbols rearranging themselves in rapid succession. Each time he thinks he understands it, the pattern alters again.

Jace (from the portal opening): [yelling] "You've got this, man! Just pretend it's a video game!"

Leo: [calling out] "And don't overthink it! Remember what Adeline said about instincts!"

Amara: [shouting] "And stop panicking! You look ridiculous!"

[Scene: The Final Piece]

Jeremy takes a deep breath, shutting out the voices and the chaos around him. He lets his instincts guide him, moving the glowing pieces into place. Finally, the puzzle locks with a satisfying click, and the board game stops glowing.

The shadows let out an ear-piercing scream as they dissolve into the air. The realm begins to collapse around them, the distorted glass floor cracking and shattering.

Adeline: [urgently] "It's time to leave, Jeremy. The portal is closing!"

Jeremy grabs the now-dormant board game and runs toward Adeline, who grabs his hand. Together, they leap through the crumbling portal just as the realm collapses entirely.

[Scene: Back in the Library]

Jeremy and Adeline tumble back into the library, landing in a heap on the dusty floor. The gang rushes over, helping them up.

Jace: [grinning] "That was insane! You guys just saved the world or something, didn't you?"

Adeline: [dusting herself off, her tone dry] "Yes, Jace. We saved the world. You're welcome."

Amara: [looking at the board game nervously] "So… is it over? Is the board actually… gone?"

Jeremy looks down at the board game in his hands. The symbols are gone, leaving it looking like an ordinary, harmless game.

Jeremy: "I think so. It's just… a board game now."

Leo: [relieved] "Good. I never want to see that thing glow or talk ever again."

[Scene: The Aftermath]

Back at home, Jeremy sits in his room, the now-ordinary board game sitting on his desk. Adeline floats nearby, sipping tea and looking more relaxed than she has in weeks.

Jeremy: "So… what now? You going back to the spirit realm?"

Adeline: [smirking] "Not just yet. Someone has to make sure you don't accidentally summon another ancient artifact."

Jeremy chuckles, feeling a sense of peace for the first time in a while.

Jeremy: "You know, for an overly dramatic ghost, you're not so bad."

Adeline: [grinning] "And for a mortal teenager, you're tolerable."

As they share a laugh, Jeremy realizes that while life might never be completely normal again, it's a little more exciting with Adeline around.
