Chapter 25 - THE RITUAL $ TRIP TO THE UNKNOWN REALM...

[Scene: Setting Up the Ritual]

The gang finds themselves back in the library, the heart of the mansion. Dust swirls in the air as Adeline begins placing ancient candles at precise points around the board game. Jeremy fumbles with a flashlight, trying to read from the translated scroll while muttering under his breath.

Jeremy: "Light the red candle first… then place the game pieces in a circle… Wait, is that supposed to be clockwise or counterclockwise?"

Adeline: [impatiently] "Clockwise, of course! Always clockwise! Did I teach you nothing about rituals?"

Leo: [gesturing dramatically] "Don't mess it up, Jeremy. One wrong move and we're all ghost food."

Jace: [trying to lighten the mood] "I, for one, welcome our new shadow overlords."

Amara: [glaring at him] "Seriously, Jace. Not the time."

As Jeremy finishes placing the pieces, the room seems to exhale—a low rumble shaking the floorboards. The candles flicker ominously, casting eerie shadows on the walls.

[Scene: Things Get Weird]

The ritual begins smoothly at first. Adeline chants in an ancient language, her voice steady and commanding. The board glows brighter with each verse, its symbols rearranging into a spiral pattern.

Adeline: [with growing intensity] "Through fire and shadow, I call thee to be bound! No gate shall open; no soul shall stray!"

Suddenly, the glow intensifies, and a loud CRACK splits the air. The board starts spinning rapidly, and the glow deepens into an unnatural, almost liquid light.

Jace: [ducking behind a desk] "Uh, is it supposed to do that? Asking for a friend!"

Jeremy: [panicking] "Adeline! What's happening?!"

Adeline: [still chanting but clearly stressed] "It's resisting! Keep the circle intact, or we'll lose control!"

The wind picks up inside the room, howling like a storm. Loose papers and books fly everywhere, and the shadows on the walls begin to coalesce into monstrous shapes. One of them lunges toward Jeremy, but Adeline throws up a glowing barrier just in time.

Adeline: [snapping at him] "Jeremy, focus! Stop gawking and finish the spell!"

Jeremy scrambles to read the final line of the scroll, his voice shaking as he shouts it out loud.

Jeremy: "Bind the passage, close the gate, and end the game!"

[Scene: The Unexpected Twist]

For a moment, everything goes still. The spinning board halts, and the glowing symbols fade. The shadows retreat, melting back into the walls. The gang exchanges relieved glances, thinking it's over—until they hear a faint laugh.

Board Game: [in a deep, chilling voice] "You think it's that easy to end me?"

The board springs to life again, its pieces rearranging into a new shape that looks disturbingly like a key. A portal begins to form in the air above it—a swirling mass of light and darkness.

Leo: [staring in horror] "Oh, come on! It talks now?!"

Amara: [desperately] "Adeline, what do we do?!"

Adeline looks genuinely alarmed for the first time, her usual poise cracking just slightly.

Adeline: "This… wasn't in the scrolls."

Jace: [sarcastically] "Great plan, Adeline. Impeccable, as always."

Adeline: [glaring at him] "I could let the shadows eat you, you know."

The gang scrambles as the portal grows larger, strange sounds emanating from within. Jeremy steps forward, holding the board game in his hands.

Jeremy: [determined] "If it's a gateway, maybe I can close it from the other side."

Adeline: [grabbing his arm] "Absolutely not! You don't know what's on the other side—you might never come back!"

Jeremy: [with a small smile] "You've got my back, right?"

[Scene: The Leap into the Unknown]

Before Adeline can stop him, Jeremy steps into the portal, the glowing key in one hand and the board game in the other. The world around him shifts into a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes, his senses overwhelmed by the strange, otherworldly energy.

Back in the library, Adeline stands frozen, torn between panic and decondition.

Jace: [shouting] "Is he coming back or what?!"

Adeline: [gritting her teeth] "He'd better. Because if he doesn't, I'm going in after him."

The story continues as Jeremy faces the unknown realm and Adeline scrambles to pull him back before it's too late. Twists, danger, and humour intertwine as the gang realizes the board game's secrets go deeper than they ever imagined.

[Scene: Jeremy in the Unknown Realm]

Jeremy stumbles through the swirling kaleidoscope of the portal, gripping the board game tightly as its symbols glow brighter and brighter. The chaotic colours slowly fade, leaving him standing in an eerie, vast expanse. The ground beneath him is shimmering, like liquid glass, reflecting a distorted version of the starry sky above.

Jeremy (thinking): Is this the spirit realm? Or did I just walk into the worst acid trip of all time?

The air feels thick, buzzing with energy, and faint whispers echo all around him. He glances down at the board game—it's pulsating now, as though it has a heartbeat of its own.
