Chapter 26 - Premonitions and Secrets

Felix was now speaking with Ruth's doctor, just as Jake had instructed. He complied without question.

"Don't you think Mikaela's decision was a bit hasty?" the doctor asked.

"That was Mikaela's choice," Felix replied simply. He was about to leave—he needed to return home. He had just finished his part-time job when Jake called, summoning him to the mansion. There, he saw Mikaela again.

"I'm heading out," he said, taking his leave.

The doctor gave a silent nod in response. Felix's undercover work had come to an end, but he still had much information he hadn't shared with Jake. He knew how impulsive his colleague could be when it came to uncovering truths—especially those involving the Fuego family.

Felix possessed a unique ability—one he sometimes wished he didn't have—but he still made use of it. Jake knew about his power, and as expected, people often laughed at him or dismissed him. It was the usual reaction from someone ordinary. But Felix had long accepted it.

All he ever wanted was to solve the mystery of his parents' deaths. As a child, he had been tormented by restless spirits. Dreams plagued him—dreams his young mind couldn't grasp.

His soul would sometimes travel, venturing into realms the living weren't meant to enter. When his parents' spirits finally stopped appearing, his understanding of their world deepened. And just when he had begun to comprehend everything, they disappeared. So did the souls of the first and second spouses of the influential Mr. Fuego.

He was playing a dangerous game—not just for himself, but for his siblings as well.

"Did I make a mistake by helping you, Fernan?" he asked quietly as he walked.

"You haven't shown yourself to my youngest sibling in a while."

Fernan didn't reply, still silently following him. The man couldn't find peace, not while he sought to take down an organization rotted by greed.

"Ellese is on the move. Thalia will soon discover the secret you've kept hidden for so long."

"I'm ready for that moment. Jenny once asked me about it too—I couldn't keep it from them either."

"You know all of you have powers, Felix."

"I do," he affirmed. "But because of those powers, they'll get dragged into all of this."

"Then why stay silent if you already know the truth?"

"I want them to stand by their choices—to believe in whatever they're fighting for. Fernan, I'd rather not be their leader."

The soul beside him said nothing. It had been dead for nearly three months now. Felix knew that the longer a soul lingered in the human world, the more it lost its memories, eventually forgetting the reason it remained.

"I don't want to be too late. I don't want to end up like our parents—or like the other souls who once pleaded for my help. I'll do whatever it takes. Everything."

He clenched his fist tightly.

"Fernan, you'll see the light again. You will get the justice you deserve."

But the spirit warned him one last time: Don't rush your decision, Felix. Your life—and your siblings'—hangs in the balance. You and Jake will face a major storm.

By the time he reached home, the sun was high. As he opened the door, he saw Thalia sitting on the couch, having just woken up.

"You slept here, huh, Ta?" he greeted her.

Thalia gave a small nod as she folded the blanket.

"I visited the wake of a schoolmate."

Felix nodded, assuming Jenny was preparing breakfast. He planned to rest after.

"What time did you and Greg get back?" he asked.

"Around one in the morning," Thalia replied.

He ruffled his sister's hair. They had no classes today, so it was a rare quiet moment. After that, he entered his room, needing to rest both body and mind.

But his ability flared again.

Visions overwhelmed him—darkness swallowed him whole—and he found himself deep in a dense forest. He recognized the place. Thalia was there, digging. She had companions, and they were in a hurry.

Then the scene shifted to the Fuego mansion. Mikaela was hiding someone while Giovane searched for her.

The visions kept coming. His head throbbed. He saw Jenny traveling with him and her cousins, Thalia and Greg.

Then came the final image—a corpse, or at least a part of one.

He gasped in pain and clutched his head. This was the aftermath of his power. Every premonition brought him closer to collapse.

"Ah! It hurts!" Felix cried, nearly falling from his bed.

When he had visions like this, they always came true.

Felix was a combination of all his siblings' powers. He had known this for a long time, even when they were still children.

As his headache began to fade, the images continued to haunt him. Why was Thalia in the forest? What were they digging? It reminded him of what he saw when his cousin died.

"What on earth?" He whispered, still disturbed.

He was especially concerned about Mikaela. Why had she returned to the mansion?

And that body…

He couldn't tell who was fated to die for justice. Not yet.

Clutching his aching head, he lay back down, breathing deeply, trying to calm his storming thoughts.
