Chapter 18 - Premonitions and Whispers

Jenny looked at her sister, who was resting in the living room. Thalia had just returned from their camping trip.

She felt grateful that her sister had come back home safely, unharmed. Sometimes, her premonitions didn't come true—or if they did, they took time to unfold.

It's fine if what I saw in my visions was wrong, she thought. What matters is that everyone is safe… including Ruth.

"Sis, I'll go ahead and get some sleep. I'm tired," Thalia said with a faint smile.

"Okay. You should rest for now," Jenny replied softly.

Thalia nodded and headed straight to their room.

Jenny felt a tug at her sleeve. She turned and saw Greg, who was staring uneasily in the direction Thalia had gone.

"What is it?" she asked gently.

"Sis…" His voice trembled with fear. "Why are so many people following Sister Thalia?"

Jenny froze. "Who's following her?"

"Women," Greg whispered. "They look terrifying. Their pasts are full of pain… and they won't stop until justice is served."

Jenny swallowed hard. She didn't know what to say. Instead, she tried to soothe her younger brother.

"They're going to bother Sister Thalia. She knows something," Greg added, wide-eyed.

Jenny's confusion deepened. She had a strong feeling something happened to Thalia during the camp—something her sister refused to talk about. Jenny knew her well. Thalia's silence was always a bad sign.

What happened to you? Jenny wondered.

Suddenly, another premonition washed over her. She saw her sister inside a large white house, watching someone. Then she saw a schoolmate die—a girl she didn't recognize.

She gasped.

Another vision struck: her older brother helping someone.

Then, she saw herself—searching for something in a place that wasn't their home, yet felt strangely familiar. She couldn't place where she had seen it before.

Many people will suffer the consequences. Jenny shivered at the thought.

In her heart, she believed the deaths of those two siblings had stirred karma.

Karma... she echoed in her mind. What happened to our family—including the death of our cousin—was not without reason.

She clenched her fist tightly.

She had already spoken to her brother Felix. He had suspicions about the sudden deaths of their parents. Jenny had always believed it wasn't an accident—but she couldn't accept that her own powers might have revealed the truth.

Her ability was limited to seeing fragments of the future. She didn't want to involve Greg—his visions frightened him. That's why she often stayed by his side, keeping him calm at night so he could sleep.

She remembered one of her recent premonitions. A schoolmate of Thalia's would die—shot before she could even step inside her house. The gunman wore a hood, his face hidden, his lips curled into a smile as the girl collapsed, dying slowly.

Jenny didn't recognize the girl, but somehow, she knew the woman was the key to everything that would happen next—a fuse to a long-burning fire.

Greg was now fast asleep beside her. She chose not to wake him. They had been playing earlier in the living room.

Out of nowhere, Jenny saw a shadow move across the room.

She frowned. There are only three of us in the house.

A wave of anxiety spread through her chest. She glanced around—no one was there.

Are my emotions playing tricks on me again? she wondered.

Then, a figure passed in front of her. Her eyes widened.

She turned to check on Greg.

Floating in the air was a woman, staring intently at him.

Jenny's breath caught in her throat. Blood dripped from the woman's body. Her dress was ragged and full of deep creases. She hovered eerily in the air.

Suddenly, the spirit turned to her. Jenny's lungs tightened. It felt like she couldn't breathe.

The woman began to whisper.

Don't let the victims multiply. That's enough. Help her.

The voice seemed to merge with the wind, chilling Jenny to the bone.

She tried to speak, but no sound came from her mouth.

If this continues, more people will suffer… and grieve.

There was sorrow in the woman's voice—deep, haunting sorrow.

Jenny didn't move. She was listening, even though every instinct inside her wanted to scream. She forced herself to stay calm.

Use the ability that you siblings possess.

Then, the ghost vanished.

Jenny's whole body trembled. She grabbed a nearby chair to keep herself from collapsing.

She closed her eyes and tried to process what had just happened.

Your ability? The words echoed in her mind.

She knew Greg had a gift. But who was the woman referring to?

Does Felix have abilities too? And what about Thalia?

Her fear began to fade, replaced by a flood of questions.

She was starting to feel sleepy. She needed rest—tomorrow would be a long day. There was no need to rush the answers. In time, they would come.

If she forced herself to find meaning now, she might drive herself mad.

Before going inside, she gently carried Greg—still fast asleep—into the bedroom.

What else could possibly happen next? She wondered, a shiver crawling down her spine.

When she entered the room, she saw Thalia fast asleep. The exhaustion on her face was evident.

Jenny didn't ask her anything. She didn't want to disturb her peace.

She quietly placed Greg beside Thalia, pulled the blanket over them both, and then lay down to sleep—hoping her dreams would bring peace, not more visions.
