Chapter 32 - Mission

The way an experienced driver speeds is truly something else.

At first, the driver was fairly restrained, but in the latter half, it was like he let himself go completely, driving faster and faster.

What was supposed to be a half-hour journey was forcibly shortened to just ten minutes.

If Blaine didn't have such a strong physique, he might've been scared dizzy and nauseous on the spot.

In the end, Blaine could only sigh in admiration—true experts live among the common people.

Beacon Hill wasn't very big.

About the size of a small town.

But although small, it had everything—hospital, police station, and so on.

The incident this time occurred at the Beacon Hill Police Department.

Blaine donned his Hunter gear and activated his [Hawkeye] skill. His entire perspective changed in an instant, like a sharp-eyed hawk scanning from above.

From a god's-eye view, he located the police station in Beacon Hill.

He retracted his gaze.

Blaine slipped into the darkness and made his way toward the police station.

By the time he approached it, it was already close to 10 PM.

Beacon Hill was rural—there weren't many entertainment options. Most people just stayed at home playing games, and the streets outside were practically deserted.

But to be safe...

When Blaine reached the area near the police station, he activated [Mind Sense].

Immediately, he sensed everything happening inside and around the station.

Inside the Beacon Hill Police Department...

The air was thick with the scent of blood and gunpowder.

The female detective on night duty was already dead, with several deep, long claw marks across her chest—so deep they reached her heart. It was a fatal blow.

Her gun holster was still sealed.

Clearly, she hadn't even had time to resist before she died.

Further inside, in one of the offices...

A humanoid lizard creature covered in scales, walking on all fours with a long tail, was blocking the door, staring intently at three people in the room.

These three were Scott, Stiles, and Stiles' father, who had already lost consciousness.

Scott and Stiles exchanged a glance, each reading the meaning in the other's eyes.

"Roar!!"

With a furious shout, Scott transformed—his face covered in fur, eyes glowing yellow, complete with fangs and claws.

He was a werewolf!

But even transformed, when the lizard creature attacked, Scott was utterly overpowered—like a puppy trying to fight a beast.

With just a few swipes, Scott barely dodged. He wasn't seriously hurt, but his clothes were torn, and he looked pitiful.

Meanwhile, Stiles used the distraction to slip out—he had other things to do.

The lizard creature had stirred up so much bloodshed in Beacon Hill for a reason. Even if Scott fought with everything he had, he was still easily subdued. The creature injected him with neurotoxin using its tail, knocking him unconscious and locking him in a jail cell.

Blaine, with his [Mind Sense] active, could feel that the creature's physical strength was about ten times that of an average person—similar to his own.

The werewolf, however, even after transformation, was only four times as strong as a normal person. Sure, it had heightened senses, claws, and fangs, but that wasn't enough to close the sixfold gap—especially when the lizard also had a poisonous tail.

If the creature didn't seem to be holding back from killing the werewolf, Scott's head would've likely been severed in the first exchange.

Thus, the Beacon Hill Police Department was on the verge of collapse.

It was late at night, and there were only a few officers on duty. The mysterious and deadly lizard creature had gone on a bloody rampage, in and out of the station like it owned the place.

...

...

At this moment—

Outside the Beacon Hill Police Department—

In the darkness—

A figure in a black hooded coat, seemingly merged with the shadows, silently watched the police station from a distance.

"You came?"

Next to him stood a handsome middle-aged man with stubble, wearing a shirt and hands in his pockets. He too was gazing toward the station.

"Can you handle it?" he asked.

"I wouldn't have come if I couldn't."

Blaine activated [HawkEye] and glanced at the man—Pete.

That single glance sent a chill through Pete's entire body. A faint blue light flickered in his eyes, and he nearly revealed his true form.

Blaine looked at Pete again.

"Prepare ten million."

With that, Blaine stepped out of the shadows and headed toward the police station.

He didn't know why Pete was offering ten million to hunt down a shapeshifter.

Nor did he care who Pete really was. A name—or even just a codename—was enough.

All that mattered to him was completing the task and collecting the reward.

Everything else was irrelevant.

"Be careful! That lizard creature is being controlled by someone!" Pete called out as Blaine left. He exhaled heavily in relief—being near Blaine felt like being on the edge of death. No one liked standing next to someone who could kill them at any moment.

He hadn't expected a random bounty posting to attract someone like that.

Pete was starting to regret it.

But regret was useless. The man was already here.

(PS: Don't worry about the character names—this is just a side story. These are just NPCs.)
