Salem's POV
I don't know why I brought her here. This cave, this forsaken place—it's cold, empty, and far from where I should have taken her. I should have flown her to another mountain, away from this one. Away from the eggs, away from this brutal choice that's been gnawing at me for weeks. But there's no turning back now, and no way to undo what I've done.
She doesn't know, not yet. She doesn't know that she's the key to the survival of my entire bloodline. She doesn't know how important she is, how much I've sacrificed to get her here. She doesn't know that she was never meant to live. That she was always a means to an end.
But now? Now I'm not sure I can do it.
