Chapter 42 - AAMH: Chapter 42

This time, Yuma didn't call Banner to join him. He went to the lab with Coulson alone.

Unless I can really confirm that Kingpin has created new Abominations, and not just one, I won't let anyone steal my souls.

You know, souls are incredibly important to me now. Even a mosquito's leg is meat. Not to mention that a smaller Abomination has more souls than a human.

Hulk's body is so big. Just by smashing and destroying things, he'll kill and injure a lot of smaller Abominations. Then, where's my share?

I can't just drink soup while he eats meat.

The system's judgment is based on output. If I just deliver the final blow, I won't get any souls.

As soon as he got in the car, Yuma received a call from Tony.

"Yuma, are you going on a special mission with Agent Coulson?" Tony's voice on the phone was faintly excited.

It seems that after announcing that he's Iron Man, Tony's heart, wanting to be a superhero, has become restless.

"That's right. We're going to Brooklyn," Yuma replied. "There's an abandoned lab of Kingpin's there. We're going to investigate."

"How about taking me with you?" Tony suggested. "Or you can send me the location, and I'll go myself."

"No, why would you go to an abandoned lab? Just stay put. I'll call you to join us when we face Kingpin," Yuma refused. "Remember the favor you owe me?"

"Tony, help me make a suit of Iron Man armor."

"No problem. I'll give you the armor when you come back!" Tony said helplessly, giving up on the idea of going.

Yuma is different from others. He doesn't need Iron Man's protection. Many times, he might even be the one protecting Iron Man.

Yuma hung up the phone in the car and then turned it off.

I don't want Tony to follow me. The weapons on his armor have high killing power, and they're all area attacks. I don't know how many souls I'll have to steal from him then.

For some reason, Yuma felt that he wouldn't return empty-handed this time. So, he was very worried about others stealing his output.

"Mr. Yuma, can I ask a question?" Coulson suddenly said to Yuma on the road.

Seeing Yuma nod, Coulson thought for a moment and said, "Can others learn your kind of magic, or can others get this ability?"

"Learn?" Yuma thought about it for a moment and shook his head. "It shouldn't be possible. You need a very special physique to have my kind of ability."

Although people in this world have various abilities, my Death ability is given by the system.

If someone can learn it in the future, I'll have to be the one to give it to them.

"That's a shame," Coulson said regretfully.

"Yeah, that's a shame." Yuma agreed, not feeling regretful at all. Instead, he was a little vigilant.

S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't have any ideas about me, would they?

Do they want me to help them cultivate superhumans, or do they want to experiment on me like Kingpin?

No matter what the situation is, I need to be careful.

Yuma secretly warned himself. After all, S.H.I.E.L.D. is a government organization, full of politics.

Maybe when there's an external threat, they'll put aside their differences and fight the enemy together. But at other times, they're more concerned with order. They want to control all power.

Or rather, control the people who have power.

My strength has already attracted their attention. I don't know if it's Nick Fury's attention on behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D., or Alexander Pierce's attention on behalf of HYDRA.

"We're here. It's here." Coulson drove the car to a farm in the suburbs and motioned for Yuma to get out.

"The lab is here?" Yuma was surprised, getting out of the car and looking at the farm and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who were cordoning off the area.

"That's right. This kind of experiment should be done in a remote place. Let's go." Coulson said, leading the way towards the entrance.

The lab was built underground. There was a secret door in the house above the farm. It looked like a normal family's basement.

When they got underground, there was a huge vault door. The door had been opened. Yuma followed Coulson and walked in directly.

"This doesn't look like it was deliberately left for you. It looks more like an experimental accident." Yuma said to Coulson beside him, looking around.

The lab was full of damaged equipment and broken glass. There were scattered limbs and bloodstains everywhere on the ground.

These people should have been the researchers here. There were torn lab coats on their corpses.

"Our people have already searched the place. There are quite a few discoveries," Coulson replied. "It's really different from before. The previous labs were very empty. All the equipment and information were taken away by the other side. They left us with an empty shell."

"This time, there must have been a major accident, so the other side didn't have time to transport the experimental equipment. They had to flee in a hurry. Otherwise, they wouldn't have left the door open and left us with so much stuff."

The two of them continued to walk towards the depths of the lab. All the way, S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel were carrying experimental equipment out and collecting the bloodstains and limbs on the ground.

"We're almost there. They found a secret door ahead." Coulson said to Yuma after turning a corner. "Be careful. They detected a life signal inside. I don't know if it's a smaller Abomination."

Yuma nodded. He had a bad feeling about this.

There wasn't a single intact corpse in the entire lab.

There were researchers, fully armed combat personnel, and even smaller Abominations.

All the corpses were broken and mangled. The wounds were jagged, as if they had been torn apart by someone.

The lab's glass was covered with coagulated blood and broken internal organs. If Yuma hadn't been wearing a gas mask, he would have probably vomited from the smell here.

"Natasha, what's the situation inside now?" Coulson asked in the communicator when they reached the secret door.

"I'm not sure. I just detected a life signal inside, but it disappeared quickly." Natasha's voice came from the communicator. "We're currently deciphering the password. It should be ready in a few minutes."

So, she was sent to investigate Kingpin's labs. Yuma thought to himself, no wonder I couldn't get in touch with her.

"Yuma, thanks for coming." Natasha suddenly said again. It was clear that she already knew Yuma was coming.

"You're welc…"

"When the door opens, you go in first," Natasha continued before Yuma could be polite. "You're strong and can handle emergencies, avoiding unnecessary casualties."

"I don't like your attitude," Yuma said coldly. "We're partners. I'm not your agent. I don't want to hear you order me around anymore!"

"Sorry," Natasha's voice came from the communicator after a while. "I'm not targeting you. I'm just used to this state when I'm working."

I think you're used to being S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, being above everyone else, and ordering people around.

Yuma scoffed. He didn't believe her explanation at all.
