Chapter 105 - Lonely Palace, The Inventor's Land Part 9

Is it because of this place? Is this place making me feel fear? Even when I was taken by that man, I didn't feel fear, so why now?

The path she walked on glowed dimly, but it stood out against the pitch darkness that engulfed everything around. There was nothing but the pitch-black metal cylinders falling from the sky and retracting back.

The path was straight as a line, slowly widening as the minutes passed. Luna tightly gripped her arm and pressed on, but the more she looked around, the more anxious she became.

She looked at the wall of light that protected her and she approached it, her reflection wavering in its glow. Hesitantly, she reached out. Her fingers passed through. A gasp caught in her throat. She swiped a hand through the barrier, and with that single motion, all hesitation fell away. Forgetting everything else, she took a step forward, her focus consumed entirely by the light.

The monotony of the falling metal cylinders was becoming calming by the second, but through the darkness, something reflected on one of the cylinders. Something huge.

Luna glanced that way and stared intensely, and in that moment, out of the darkness walked out a huge, grey being of stone—no, less a being, more a monster. It walked slowly and diagonally towards Luna but gave no sign of seeing her.

Huh, this place scares me. The sound of it scares me… but he doesn't? At least life is here, good to know

Luna saw it and was amazed at how a pile of stone could resemble a humanoid. His raggedy body was made out of stones with an enormous gem in the middle. His red eyes shone, illuminating the path towards him, and in that second, he spotted Luna. Slowly turning his shoulders towards her, he made his way at her.

Luna just stood there and watched it try to get her, but the monster miscalculated his steps. As he placed his foot in front of his body, a pitch-black cylinder fell down from the darkness and crushed him into dust, destroying his whole body, with nothing remaining.

Luna chuckled at the situation. It was really sad if you think about it. That's why I don't want to be where he stood; it's really dangerous.

Luna shivered at the thought of her being there. Clearing her throat, she picked up the pace and ran down the ever-widening path.

Just as Luna slowed, an enormous structure emerged out of the darkness, its size twice that of the monster from before.

The structure was colored in black and resembled something like the smithy that Nyx always loved to spend time around. In the middle of it was an anvil the size of Luna, and around it were three smelters, the size of that monster. There were hundreds of swords, blades, and machines built. Luna rushed up to where the path ended.

The machines that caught Luna's attention were humanlike metal frames, like a skeleton's she saw in the dungeon. There were a total of three lying by the smelter, but feeling the heat, she looked up at it and saw a black fire glowing out strongly, as well as out of the other two. Out of the chimney, greyish smoke flew.

It's as if someone was using it just before I came here,

And really, this place is made as if it wanted me to come here, or just the person that made it was lazy and wanted to get straight to this place…  Luna thought as she glanced at it

It was empty, but practical to Luna. She sighed, seeing that there was nothing in this place, so she decided to come back and walked by the anvil. But as she walked past it, she noticed something sticking out from under the anvil near a hammer with two gloves lying near. Walking up to it, she crouched and pulled on it with all her strength. With her whole might, she pulled out a sheet of paper.

But the force of her strength pushed her back, stumbling and rolling back to the machines. Pushing them, they fell to the ground with a metallic thud. Luna exhaled and stood up, brushing her knees off. She folded the paper and placed it into her pocket, and she ran back down the path with a grin on her face.

Luna ran past where she had met the three monsters, but there, in the place he was crushed, was a lizard-like monster twice the size of an adult male, eating the dust that was left of him.

This place really is harsh, to eat dust… I hope they will do well, she thought and lurched past them. As she did, they jolted their heads up and followed Luna's movement. As Luna ran into the darkness, they got back to eating the dust.

But at that moment, a giant pitch-black cylinder fell down and crushed them, splattering violent red blood around it. It left a gruesome site as it retracted; their crushed bodies, beyond recognition, still stuck to the pillar as it retracted into the darkness.

Seconds of silence passed, and then an echo sounded down the path as a wise and deep voice echoed down the path from the smithy's location past Luna. "Sigh, I told them not to visit unless it's truly important."

Luna slowed down and turned her head towards the smithy, but as she did, she hit something transparent. As she jolted and focused on the thing, it was the doors she came through! They slowly came into existence, out of nowhere! Excitedly, Luna grabbed the handle, forgetting that wise man, and jumped through the frame, finding herself back in the corridor.

She rushed through the corridor and sat down by the last doors remaining. She took out the four pages and the diary. She straightened each page and opened the book, placing each page onto the ripped place; they reattached themselves with a dim golden glow.

Luna looked in awe, thinking, Every time it happens it's really exciting!

Luna closed the diary and took a deep breath in and out. Relaxed and ready, she opened the book and began reading the words out loud.
